Chapter 9

I KNOW YOU

Remy's POV

Upon a closer look at my surroundings it appeared that I wasn't in my hotel room after all. I was in a relatively neat room with beautiful paintings all over the walls that looked colorful and extremely bright.

It suited her, all of it did. She had become more beautiful with age, as her face had matured from that of a seventeen year old. Her hair was a bit longer and had the remains of loose curls that had been slept on.

God I couldn't believe how I had lasted five whole years without her after what felt like a lifetime together. Without her smile, without her musical laugh, without her graceful presents, without her next to me all the way through.

I encircled my arms around her and just held her tight as if she were my lifeline and I'd die if I ever let go. But then I had died when she left me. My heart had been ripped out of my chest the further her car drove down the street that horrible day five years ago. The memory of her not caring enough to stay there with me re-entered my mind for the millionth time in the last five years. The initial shock of seeing her again had momentarily made me forget about all the hurt she had caused me. She could have moved on with her life easily after she left. She didn't have to be haunted by me in everything around her as she haunted me in that last year and a half of high school. No she hadn't gone through all the torture and torment that I had to and she never would. I couldn't forgive her for what she had done to me, oh I wanted to but why shouldn't she have to suffer at all. Why should I give her comfort when for years just the thought of her had given me pain?

I quickly retracted my arms from around her warm body. She looked so innocent and peaceful in her sleep. No she couldn't have suffered at all.

I quickly got up off the bed and put my clothes on from the various places they lay on the floor. I speed walked to the door, my brown trench coat flapping out behind me and exited the apartment. With the one thought in my mind that I'd never set one foot near the complex for the rest of my stay in New Orleans.

End of Remy's POV

Rogue woke up to the sound of loud footsteps exiting her room. She looked up and saw the back of a man wearing a black trench coat close the apartment door behind hi.

She quickly jumped out of bed and hurriedly tossed on her deep green robe. She ran out of her room and through the short length of the apartment and opened the door to be greeted with the sight of the same man with the reddish brown hair entering the elevator and descending to the lobby of her complex.

"Guess I'll never know who that mysterious guy was. Not too important right Rogue? I mean you only sleep with the man after undoubtedly getting drunk last night judging from the killer headache. Nothing too big. And to make things even worse you are now talking to yourself, what a great beginning to your Sunday!" She sarcastically ranted to herself as she closed the apartment door and collapsed on a chair in the kitchen burring her head in her hands.

She sat like that for a good ten minutes before she heard the apartment door open again and her dear "friend" enters humming a song to herself. Rogue groaned when she recognized the song as the Disney movie Sleeping Beauty's "I Know You".

"What has you so chipper and singing Sleeping Beauty this morning Bet's?" Rogue asked in a fake interested voice. She was ready to kill her roommate at that moment for the domino affect she had caused last night by forcing Rogue to have a drink with those strange guys.

"Oh you know, life is just so wonderful this morning isn't it?" Betsy answered in a disgustingly happy voice.

"Define wonderful." Rogue responded as she got up and started making some coffee.

"Last night I met the GREATEST guy, who I'm joining for dinner later tonight my dear, dear wonderful friend."

Rogue just rolled her eyes at the dramatics. "And to think he was actually "great" in your books after you slept with him. Gives me faith in the world again Bet's."

"Oh, he's different though, he's handsome, and sweet, and charming, and..." Betsy trailed off dreamily.

Rogue just looked at her, "Funny how you can get all that after sleeping with him for one night."

"Oh but Rogue, he's different..."

"If you say so, sugah."

Rogue turned to start walking back to her room when she suddenly turned around and handed her cup of coffee to Betsy, "Honey, I think you need this more than I do." With that she walked into her room and closed the door.

That afternoon Rogue went out on her date with Lance.

RRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR

They walked through a nearby park and had something to eat at a local café where they just talked and enjoyed each other's company.

Lance was a very good-looking guy, with a muscular build and bad boy features. He had brown hair that was slightly longer then it should have been, but he somehow pulled it off. He was about 6"0' and had decided to wear a tee-shirt and a pair of baggy shorts for their date.

"So Rogue, are you enjoying yourself?" Lance asked, as they were finishing up their lunch.

"Yea Lance I really am, we should do this more often."

"Well it just so happens I was thinking that same exact thing, and I keep wondering why we can't finally just get together. I mean for the last three months its been on, off, on, off with us and I can't understand that since I have a great time around you and I'd be crazy to tell you that I wasn't attracted to you." Lance said.

"What do you wanna do about it then Lance?"

"I was kinda thinking we could start getting our act together and be exclusive, does that sound like a good idea to you?" Lance asked, trying not to show how much the question mattered to him.

By this time they had finished their lunch and paid and were strolling down the sidewalk on their way to the movies. It was a gloomy day and it looked like it was about ready to rain.

"Yea Lance, I think I'd be a very good idea." Rogue said, smiling over at him.

Lance stopped walking, pulled Rogue to him and kissed her fiercely, showing her how much that meant to him.

By the time they had pulled apart the rain had started and they ran across the street and into the theater hand in hand.

RRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR

It had been two weeks since the day Betsy had ummm "met" the so-called man of her dreams. She still refused to tell Rogue this mystery guys name insisting that she didn't want to jinx the relationship by blabbing too much about it. The only hints that Rogue could get were the dreamy mumbling and humming that Betsy always had right after she saw this guy.

"Betsy, can't you just tell me his name??? I'm your best friend, you should tell me!!!" Rogue whined.

"Rogue, this relationship mean too much to me to want to jinx." Betsy said stubbornly.

"Uggg, fine, keep your secrets."

"But... you can met him tonight." Betsy said.

"I can?" Rogue asked thoroughly confused.

"Yes you can, because tonight we're all going out to dinner, him, me, you, and his best friend." Betsy explained.

"Hold up, 1) How come you never told me about this dinner until this morning? 2) Your not trying to set me up with his friend are you? Cause I already have a boyfriend. And 3) your really lucky I don't happen to have any other plans tonight!" Rogue ranted.

"Calm down Ro', I didn't know until last night that we were going to have dinner, and no I'm not trying to set you up with his friend."

"Well ok then, I'll go to this dinner, what time is it cause I have to work from 4-6 tonight."

"It'd at 7:30 at that cute little French restaurant down the street, you know the one on the corner?"

"Your lucky that out of the thousands of French restaurants down here I actually know the one you're talking about." Rogue said exasperated.

"Well you can meet us there at 7:30 tonight then, and Rogue I can't wait until you meet him! He's the most wonderful guy I've ever met. I really think I'm falling for him hard." She said.

"How could ya be falling for him already? You've only known him for two weeks for crying out loud!" Rogue said getting ready to leave the room if anymore of this lovy dovy crap came out of Betsy's mouth. What was happening to her cool and always collected friend?

"Oh Rogue, sometimes you just know that it's right... Rogue where are you going?! Aren't you gonna listen to me!!!!"

RRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR

Rogue's shift had just ended and she was on her way home to change for dinner. She had basically passed the time at work flirting with Lance and talking to Alison about some of the sleazy guys that tried to hit on them. Also trying to make plans with Alison and her boyfriend for a double date maybe on Friday with her and Lance. Before she had left Lance pulled her aside and gave her a kiss telling her that he might stop by after the club closed that night, but it was depending on how tired he was after working all night.

So Rogue made her way down the street and into her apartment complex to get dressed to meet Betsy and her mystery man for dinner in a couple of minutes.

She put on a short green skirt and a black sweater no sleeve top, with black heels and silver hoop earrings. She left her hair straight instead of curling it like she usually did, grabbed her small black purse and headed out the door.

RRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR

Rogue arrived at the restaurant at 7:45 and asked the matra'd if her party was there yet, they were and he led her to their table.

She smiled when she saw Betsy and hugged.

"Sorry I'm late Bet's, it's hard walking three blocks in these damn heels..." Rogue trailed off as she saw the two men sitting at their table and recognized them both immediately.

"Warren, is that you?" She asked, knowing that it was.

"Wow Rogue, what a small world, you look incredible." Warren said as he stood up and gave her a hug.

"Oh you all know each other?" Betsy asked, confused.

"Yea Bet's we grew up together." Rogue answered as she turned her gaze on Remy who had gotten over his shock of finding out that Betsy was her friend and was glaring off in the distance instead.

"Hey Remy, it'd been a long time." Rogue said as she moved over to her chair, which was right next to him.

"Not as long as you think," he mumbled under his breath as he turned cold eyes to her, "Surprised to know you've even noticed me not being around, I'm honored for that Rogue." As he mockingly took her hand and kissed the back of it.

Rogue grabbed her hand back from him, giving him a glare and sat down in her seat, burying her head in her menu and wondering if this situation could get any worse. And then it did, Warren and Betsy started flirting with each other and totally ignoring their friends. This left Remy and Rogue stuck for the whole dinner. Finally making a silent truce to be relatively civilized to one another in order to get through this dinner from hell.

"So Roguey, what have you been up to these last five years, you know starting from the minute you left me behind." Remy asked lazily.

"Oh you know, I went to boarding school, then proceeded onto college where I studied medicine and am now trying to earn enough money to get into med school. I heard that you went to join the FBI after high school."

"Yea I did, first I had to go to college and study law and all that good stuff and I finished my training course just recently, so Warren and I just earned a four week vacation which will be over in two more weeks."

"That's a very big accomplishment you both made, your only twenty-two and you've already made it into the FBI, very big accomplishment, I'm so proud of you Rem Rem." Rogue said amazed by what Remy had done for all these years.

"You've accomplished a lot too Ro', I think the reason I got so far already is because all through college and training and everything I worked extra hard, trying not to think of, and I dragged Warren along with me." Rem said, shocked that he had reveled so much of his feelings to her.

You're supposed to be mad at her man! Not showing her all your feelings and telling her that you thought about her!! Damn it! Why is it so hard to try to keep hating her???

Rogue, seeing his discomfort about what he had just reveled to her tried to soothe his hurt feelings, "Listen Remy, I know we said a lot of things five years ago that we didn't mean, and we were still kids which at the time meant emotional wrecks, but maybe we should try to work together now to mean the past. Not bring childhood misunderstandings and arguments with us into adulthood." Rogue reasoned. "And what you said before was wrong, I missed you everyday we were apart, you've been such a big part of my life all these years and maybe running away from my problems was the wrong way to solve things but that never meant that I never cared for you."

Rogue's eyes started to well up with tears as she thought of the big mistakes she had made in the past. Remy was about to respond but at that moment the check came and Warren and Betsy informed them that they were going to head out and if they'd be ok with each other.

So Remy and Rogue walked out of the restaurant and Remy offered to walk Rogue home.

After awhile Remy broke the silence. "You know your right Rogue. I have carried a childish grudge into adulthood. But what happened had caused me so much pain because you had meant everything to me that I just wanted the floor to open up and swallow me as I watched your car disappear from sight. I guess I never really forgave you for that, but I'm willing to know, and to start things fresh. I've missed you so much over the years, and I'd like to get our lives back on track."

Remy felt so much better getting all his feelings out to her. It was like the weight of the world had been suddenly lifted off his chest. He looked over at her as they bored the elevator up to her floor and made a confession to her.

"Two weeks ago, I was the one who had slept with you that night and had left your apartment before you woke up." He looked down at the ground after he said this.

"Tonight when I saw you, I had a feeling that had been you." Rogue said, as she took the key to her apartment out of her purse.

"Rogue, even though I tried my hardest to hate you, I never stopped loving you." Remy said as he moved closer to her.

"I never stopped loving you either Rem Rem." Rogue replied as she felt him take her face in his hands and kiss her, right there in front of her apartment door.

At that moment down the hall, the elevator beeped and Lance walked out.
