Chapter 10 This Lullaby

Naruto's P.O.V.

I've never seen Sasuke so angry. Yuumi finally woke up after sleeping for two days. It took two more days for her to get a handle on herself and then learn to control her nature. Finally after four days we were able to question her about what happened.

She said she had come in and hear a commotion up stairs. A very loud thump. She said Sakura had her clumsy moments so she thought she'd fallen into something again.

Rushing upstairs shed been meet with the sight of something much different.

A man with long black hair that was spiky like Sasuke's was holding Sakura up by her hair. She tried to get him to release her only for him to smack her aside.

She couldn't recall exactly how it happened all she knew was that he'd pulled a katana from somewhere cut her side with it while throwing her through the bedroom door.

She blacked out for a second then came to when she heard Sakura's curious cries and had to watch helplessly as she was thrown into the wall and taken away.

Yuumi was currently with Mikoto. Sense she was turned shed felt a very strong attachment to her and constantly stuck by her side. That was normal and to be expected.

I walked around the living room trying to think of a way to get Sasuke to come out of his room. He'd been in there ever sense Yuumi had told us what happened. I was starting to think he was going crazy. Then again maybe he was. Losing his other half not once but twice had taken its toll.

Sasuke's P.O.V.

I remember one of the last things Sakura told me before she fell asleep that night. The page she'd been looking for had been torn out. Now I was trying to think of all the places it could be. I'd searched through her things, her parents house, the stuff her birth parents gave her, everywhere.

My head fell into my hands. It's not like its in her old room th... My head shot up and I was across the room and out the door in the blink of an eye.

No one had been in that room in a long time. It had been shut off and sealed. No one could bare to go in there after she died. It was one of two rooms no one entered anymore. The other was the room we'd all watched her die.

I sprinted down to my mothers office. I knew she had the key. I'd asked her to keep it in case I ever needed to go in there again.

Yuumi jumped from her seat on the couch as I burst in. Still not quite used to her vampire senses. "Mother where's the key? I need it"! She looked up from her papers confused. She started to ask what key but then it dawned on her exactly which one I was requesting.

She reached forward to the music box that she kept on her desk and opened the hidden drawer. She pulled the dusty key from it an handed it over.

I ran down the hall away from her office and sprinted up the stairs I rarely used anymore. Headed towards a room I thought I'd never enter again.

Finally I found myself in front of the door. The tarnished silver knob showed exactly just how long it'd been sense anyone had even come down this hall.

I stuck the key into the knob carefully and hesitantly turned the lock. A rust click met my ears and I reached for the knob.

The metal was cold to the touch and ruff. The springs groaned in protest after years of no use.

The door squeaked terribly as it swung open. Sounding like a door in a haunted house.

Musty air hit me full force and dust flew up from the floor to swirl through the stale air. The light from the dim hall fell into the room along with the sunlight that peeked around the edges of the heavy curtains.

I flipped the light switch on by the door but it didn't come on. Guess it shorted out of something

I walked carefully across the floor to the curtains. Lightly placing my steps so as not to stir up to much dust. I carefully grasped the curtains and pulled them to the sides. Letting sunlight filter into the room for the first time in over a century.

The room was exactly as Sakura last left it. Her bed neatly made. The red blankets pulled tightly so no wrinkles ruined the surface of it. The color was off it looked more of a gray red now but I knew what color they were supposed to be.

The white curtains that would fall around the bed itself as she slept pinned back by the once white tasseled cords.

I turned towards her vanity and writing desk. The small stack of books she kept there still neatly pushed against the wall. An ink well and a fountain pen sat near that.

I reached down to pull out the small drawer. A few more ink wells slid forward each tagged with the name of the color they contained. A small box hit the jars when I moved to close it. Something metallic slid around inside it.

The appearance of the box was that of a book but I knew it wasn't. I reached down and grabbed it. Something was definitely in it. I popped it open and found a tiny ornate silver key. A pink jewel rest in the little heart at the top of it.

This looks like the key to her top drawer. The on that was always locked. I'd never known where the key was before now.

The key slid into the heart shaped lock easily. A small click was heard and the little flap popped open revealing a handle underneath the strip of wood.

I pulled the handle and the drawer slid out. A small book wrapped in green velvet was placed in one corner. A folded paper in the other. Between the two was a music box identical to the one sitting on my mothers desk in her office.

The only difference was the color. My mothers was purple and gold inlaid with diamonds and pearls. This one was green and silver inlaid with emeralds and diamonds. It held the same polished sheen and the design was exactly the same. I wondered if it played the same song for a brief moment before shaking the thought off.

I grabbed all three items and closed the drawers I locked the panel back in place and swiftly left the room pausing only to re lock the door. My mother knew something more that she wasn't telling me. Either that or it was just one hell of a coincidence.

Sakura's P.O.V.

Darkness. That was the first thing I thought as soon as I woke up. It was dark. Terribly so. No light could be seen anywhere.

I shifted my body slightly then wished I hadn't. Intense pain shot through my side and head.

I was confused for a second. Not recalling how I'd gotten hurt in the first place. I remember waking up and looking for Sasuke and then... "YUUMI"! She was hurt. Badly.

I tried to move my hands but they were pulled over my head. Well that explained the numb feeling. I couldn't feel my arms anymore because they'd fallen asleep from my awkward position.

I was sitting up against a wall with my hands bound over my head with... Rope? It wasn't cold but I couldn't see to be sure.

Something cold gripped my left ankle and rattled when I shifted. That must be a chain then. It was heavy so I don't think it could be anything else.

I blinked my eyes hoping to be able to focus and see exactly where I currently was. My lashes brushed across a scratchy material and for the first time I was aware that something was tied around my face. That explained why I couldn't see anything.

Suddenly I heard a door squeak open and footsteps. Someone was in here with me!

"I see your finally awake Sakura-Chan". A male voice said suddenly sounding very close to me. I jerked my head in the direction of the voice and heard them chuckle.

The sound was very unpleasant. It sounded like nails down a chalkboard. It was so creepy.

A hand slid across my face and around to the back of my head. A sharp tug was felt before the cloth wrapped around my eyes fell away.

I looked up into the glasses covered face of the guy squatting in front of me. He had grayish white hair in a low ponytail and pale white skin. Dull black eyes stared back at me through the glasses that he pushed back up his face using his middle finger.

He reached up over my head and brought one of my arms down. Pins and needles sung at my arm as the feeling started to return to it.

He stretched out my arm for a minute before dropping at my side and repeating the process with my other arm. I thought about trying to find away out but the pain in my head and side was just too much. I wouldn't be running anywhere for a while. Not with a broken rib and a concussion.

"Tut, tut, tut. I wouldn't move if I were you Sakura-Chan. I've been told to use whatever means to immobilize you should the need arise without killing you".

He un cuffed my ankle and scooped me up. I felt so useless and drained. They must have drugged me sense I can barely move.

My head felt like it weighed a ton and it flopped back to hang over his arm. I was glad it didn't fall over onto his chest. This guy was seriously creeping me out. His touch sent little rivulets of repulsion through me and left goosebumps on my skin whenever he touched it.

It was then that I noticed I wasn't wearing Sasuke's shirt and my shorts anymore. Someone had put me in a white sundress with spaghetti straps. I hoped to god it wasn't this guy.

He opened the door and we stepped out into a brightly lit hall. I had to shut my eyes from the intense light. My eyes watered and burned slightly. I must have been in darkness longer the. I thought if I was having this kind of reaction.

I was glad that he was holding me in a way that didn't cause me too much pain. I was having enough trouble breathing due to the broken ribs as it was.

He abruptly stopped walking and I flicked my eyes up to stare into the eyes of the person looming over me.

The guy had white hair and black eyes. Some of it had been grouped together with a red band and hung over his shoulder. His face was pale and he looked sick. Red marks lined his eyes and made him seem a little scary.

It wasn't makeup. I could tell that right away. This guy really was sick. The marks and his lack of life in his eyes proved that.

Regardless of that the guy holding me turned me over to him. I inhaled sharply when the movement caused my broken rib to shift. The move also brought a swirl of motion sickness over me and I gladly succumbed to darkness once more.

Sasuke's P.O.V.

I entered my mothers office silently. She looked up from her papers and immediately noticed the objects in my hands. She dismissed Yuumi and motioned me forward.

"I see you found something in Sakura-Chans room". I dropped the velvet book and folded paper on her desk before setting the box on top of that gently.

I watched as she carefully picked up the box and examined it before opening the secret drawer on the side just like hers. From this one she pulled another folded paper.

She handed it to me and I unfolded it. I was met with half a drawing. The person in the picture had spiky hair and an eye with three tomoe in it. The Sharringan. A trait of the vampires born exclusively to my family.

She unfurled the other sheet of paper and this one showed half of a face I knew well. Orochimaru. Currently a teacher at the school I attended but according to Sakura's journal once her fathers most trusted advisor.

I looked up at my mother questioningly. This just got ten times more confusing then it was.

"Sasuke sit down". She gestured over to the couch as she rose from her chair and walked over to the couch. She sat down and patted the seat next to her.

"Sit down this is going to take a while". I cautiously sat next to her and she grabbed my hand and squeezed it as she began her story.

"Do you remember those few days after Sakura's parents were killed? How she changed and was constantly afraid of something and jumpy"? I nodded thinking about those days myself now that she mentioned them. There was that one instance.

Sakura had been acting so weird. She jumped at the slightest noise. She never really wanted to be alone and was extremely paranoid.

She had actually wandered off by herself that day and it was hours before she was found.

FLASHBACK!

I woke up alone again. Sakura hadn't slept at all that night. She constantly tossed and turned in bed. I knew when she did sleep she had nightmares. She blamed her parents death on herself.

It was still early the sun was just starting to come up as I rolled over in bed searching for her though I knew she wasn't there.

I slipped on my pants and then quietly left the room. I encountered my brother first. He hadn't seen her this morning.

I headed to her room next. She spent some time in there when she was writing in her journal. No light shined under the door but I knocked anyways. As expected I received no answer. I opened the door and peered in. No one was in there and from what I could see no one had been in here for awhile.

I headed outside next. Sometimes Sakura liked to walk around the gardens whenever thoughts weighed heavily on her mind. Though they usually had to do with her people and how her advisors had demanded she produce a male heir and renounce her title now that she was married to me.

That's exactly where I found her. Sitting underneath a cherry blossom tree and frowning. Her head was propped up on her hand which was resting on her knee.

Her eyes were glazed over and she appeared to be deep in thought. She didn't even hear me calling her.

I must have startled her because she jumped up with a scream. "Sorry Sasuke-Kun you just scared me is all". She kissed my cheek and wandered away softly saying she needed to be alone.

I hadn't looked at her long but the sleepless nights were starting to get to her. Dark circles ringed her eyes and they were blood shot which lead me to believe she was crying again.

END OF FLASHBACK!

"After she left you in the garden she came to me and swore me to the utmost secrecy. She couldn't take the stress anymore. She didn't want to tell you because she was afraid you would become a target and she knew I was good at hiding stuff".

My mother looked away sadly as she opened up the velvet book. It was written in Sakura's hand and someone else's. though I didn't recognize it. The first part wasn't hers. It was mostly filled up with the unfamiliar handwriting. The last part was hers.

"This belonged to her brother and was one of the things her parents didn't get rid of. Mostly because they never found it. Sakura kept it hidden. Not wanting to lose the only connection she had to the brother she never really got to know".

I flipped through it briefly. Most of it was filled with boring facts. Obviously it was used to take notes from his tutors. Some of it was written about her history. Though none of it interested me at this point.

"What about the music box? Did you give it to her"? My mother shook her head no.

"I didn't give this to Sakura. I have no clue how it came into her possession. As it was part of the set of three. Naomi has the other one. I had planned on giving this to Sakura but never got the chance".

This new information troubled me. If my mother didn't give it to her then who did? I watched as she turned the key and a familiar tune started to play. I recognized it right away. Sakura used to hum it all the time. Whenever she was writing in her journal or doing something intently. This melody would slip from her.

I hadn't heard it sense the day she died. It was like the song died with her. After her death I shoved away anything that had to do with her. The song slowly fading away with time and all but forgotten completely.

Sakura's P.O.V.

A sweet tune sounded in my head. Calling for me. Calling for me to wake up. But I didn't want to wake up. If I did the pain would return again. I was tired of feeling pain. Dreams held more for me then in reality now.

In my dreams I hadn't been taken away and this whole mess was over with now. Sasuke and I were finally together and nothing could stand in my way.

I wasn't being held captive by some psychopath hellbent on revenge against me just for being alive.

Something shook my shoulder and the touch was warm, warm and familiar. It wasn't Sasuke's touch. No I knew better then to think that.

"Sakura. It's time to wake up sweetheart. You've slept long enough". I knew that voice. I was sure of it, but at the same time I was positive I'd never heard it before. How can that be?

To know of voice so well but never having heard it before? "Sakura. Sweetie wake up". My eyes fluttered open and I stared up into familiar green eyes.

They were familiar because they were just like mine. Pink hair fell in curtains around her petite face. Just a shade darker then mine. Her lips tugged upward into a sweet smile.

"I'm so glad to see you again, but sweetie you don't belong here yet. You need to go back. People are waiting for you".

I stared at her. Who was this woman? Why do I feel like I've always known her. Why does she look just like me?

"Who are you"? Her smile faltered for just a second. That was all I needed to see the sadness hidden in her emerald eyes and then it was gone.

She reached up and smoothed my hair down before pressing a kiss to my forehead and giving me a gentle squeeze.

"All will be revealed soon. You must go now but I will see you again someday". White light filtered in and surrounded me getting brighter with each second. Soon I couldn't see her anymore.

Something wet trailed down my cheek and I touched it. Surprised when I realized I was crying. Why? Why did it hurt even though I didn't know her? I felt as though I lost something important to me.

My senses came back to me and I heard the sounds of a heart monitor. My head hurt much less now and breathing didn't seem so difficult anymore.

I could hear voices now to. One was familiar. It sounded like Orochimaru. My teacher for physics. What's he doing here? Why is he yelling? I focused on what was being said.

"You idiot! I told you to be careful when you went to retrieve her! Because of you she almost died"! That's odd. I thought I was kidnapped. Maybe Sasuke and the others rescued me. That thought was dashed when a new voice spoke up.

"Do not try my patience Orochimaru. I do what I please. The only reason I brought her back alive was because you said it was vital. Other wise I would have killed her on the spot. Like I did that pathetic human".

Icy fear rolled down my spine. I didn't need to open my eyes to know who the second voice belonged to. The dark haired man with red eyes. He had haunted enough of my nightmares to never be forgotten.

Something jabbed me sharply in the side followed by the menacing voice. "There's no point in pretending. I know you're awake girl. Open your eyes". I didn't need to hear the or else to know it wouldn't be pleasant if choose not to cooperate with them.

I slowly opened my eyes bracing myself for the bright lights. Two figures leered over me. One more menacing then the last. The dark haired on spoke again.

"Do you know who I am human girl"? His very voice froze the blood in my veins and made my heart beat faster. I shook my head no. "Speak"! He lashed out verbally at me.

"N-no". I said my voice cracking from going so long without speaking and my fear of him. He Annalise's me quietly before deducing that I spoke the truth.

"Let me tell you a little about myself then girl". His voice held no emotion at all and I felt myself shiver in response. I won't lie. He absolutely terrified me.

"Almost ten centuries ago my brother and I were put to the test as to who would be the next king. Back when I was a child king wasn't chosen on who was born first but rather who would make the better leader and so we were tested".

"It was decided that in the end my little brother had the compassion and carrying nature to guide my kind. So I was cast aside in favor of him. So I left and vowed revenge on them".

"Time past and i was forgotten. No one had taken my threat seriously. Why should they fear a twelve year old child with a superiority complex? Or so they said. He eventually had two children. A son and a daughter. The daughter was a sickly child and never had the strength required to keep a firm hand over our kind and keep them in line. So his son was chosen".

"You would know him as Fugaku Uchiha. His sister died shortly after he took the throne. I decide to make a reappearance. But I was too late. By this time he had two sons and one of them was infatuated with the human princess. You had caught the eye of a pure blood vampire".

"That wasn't right though so I made all efforts to stop you two from getting closer. Nothing worked. So finally I decided to eliminate you and your entire kind. Humans have grown arrogant. Thinking that vampires are nothing to fear and even falling in love with them". He sneered the words finally showing some emotion. Hate, disgust, and fury rolled around him.

"I let my hate of my younger brother to in favor of getting rid of you and your entire race. You will learn to cower in fear of the name vampire before you die".

He grabbed a fistful of my hair and jerked my head up, forcing me to stare into menacing red eyes. "You just couldn't keep your hands to yourself and now you're going to pay for ever daring to taint a vampire".

He released me and my head thumped back onto the pillow. I found my courage then and wished I'd kept my mouth shut. "What makes you think Sasuke or any of the. Would follow you"?! His dark chuckle left chills down my spine.

"I don't intend for them to follow me. None of those cowards are worthy to rule. They shall die as well. All will learn to fear the name Madara. There is nothing that can stop me now. You shall be the first to die little princess and this time I'll make sure you don't come back. You'll never interfere with my plans again".

With that said the door swung open and both of them left. It swung shut with a loud thump.

I began to struggle. Tugging at the thick cuffs restraining my wrists and feet.

I screamed out my fury and hate when the didn't give and set me free. It was then that I noticed a slightly familiar figure in the corner of the room.

"It's no use. You'll never break free. Those cuffs were made to restrain a vampire". His soft whispery voice held no malice or hatred. It held nothing at all really.

I looked up and stared into black eyes so like Sasuke's and so unlike them. His held pain and loneliness. As well as a sense of hopelessness. Was this really the end for me?

IMPORTANT STUFF AND WHATNOT!

Okay this is the end. I'm really tired now. It's late but I wanted to finish this so I can work on my special fic. In honor of my favorite holiday (even if technically its not) Halloween I will be writing a shortish (might end up being two chapter for all the chaos I've got planned) fic for Halloween. It's title has yet to be decided but its sure to be a hoot. It will include my usual pairings as well as a healthy dose of stupidity, a smattering of humor, a sprinkle of suspense, and a dash of romance. So I hope you'll enjoy it! I'll be posting it on Halloween so until then all ongoing stories are on hold but it's temporary so don't freak out.

Alright you know the drill by now I hope. Please leave a review. No flames. Don't like the story? Don't read simple as that!
