Okay I know it is forever since I last updated this story. But here we go again. If anyone complain over my lacking muse well she was shot with Will in a court room by RK. But this is me trying. And this chapter is in every way dedicated to Mary who talked me through getting back to writing today. Also Guategal I hope you like seeing me back on this fic? And Boneslover97 you asked me to continue this in light of recent events, I have no idea how long will take and I don't have a lot of time to do so with writing but I am going to try. To all of your others that once read this story. I hope you still have some interest in it.

I don't own TGW I think we established that as they aired 515!

I Guess That Is A No

He walked into his office, he was in a good mood this morning, the weekend had gone well. He was getting used to the company of Grace Florrick, at least her culinary skills, which were to prefer over his own. He had even enjoyed the time spent in the batting cage and on the baseball field as Mel started making Grace learn baseball. Of course he had come along, as Mel explained they would need him. He hadn't been pleased at first, but it had involved playing his favorite game so his annoyance hadn't lasted for long. However he had been relieved that he had been allowed to sit out the riding Mel and Grace had agreed on doing Sunday. He didn't like it much. Sure, moving here he had learned how to do it. But from learning to do it to liking there was a difference. And one of huge importance here. However Mel's smile and laughter as they came back home actually had made him consider that maybe he should do it more often. That maybe, just maybe he could learn to not dislike it at least, for his daughter's sake. Unless of course Grace decided to take her more often, if that was the case he wouldn't need to worry. Again Grace taking Mel riding would depend on Grace sticking around, which actually looked promising so far. She did have talent within the law, and the clients liked her so far. At least they seemed to, so maybe he could let her work there, also so far the president hadn't showed up and dragged his daughter back to DC by the hair, so there was a chance she really had gotten the okay from her parents. Though he had no idea how she had managed that. The only thing that worried him was Daniel, and how he kept looking at Grace. That made him feel uncomfortable, both for Daniel and how he worried over the heartbreak a daughter of Alicia, one with her blood and DNA was bound to cause any man, but also for Grace actually. After all she lived under his roof now, at least for the moment. And he was starting to feel responsible for the girl. At least enough that he had gone shopping with her when she had admitted the store hadn't been willing to accept her credit card and the bank had been the same when she tried to collect cash. He had smiled over how the town teamed together around him, trying to protect him from the family they all knew had hurt him, and destroyed his life work of a firm in Chicago, and made him the scapegoat of a their own scandal. But he now had Grace living with him, and she needed stuff, plus she offered to cook so that meant groceries as well. They had after he went with her the first time seemed to accept her in the shops thankfully. Just like he had made sure to bring both her and Mel to two different diners in town where they would now also accept her. And that had been how he made sure the town took her in a little more now. He wasn't exactly sure how he felt about that one either, it was nice having someone on his side. And the moment they accepted Grace in one place they seemed smitten by her. He couldn't blame them, she was charming, smiling and open. She drew people in, not only co-workers. But Hannah was also singing Grace praise already. He knew they were planning to go for drinks, or something the end of this week. He had the moment he heard that had a brief thought of how Alicia would likely be less pleased with her daughter going out drinking, but he had pushed it away. After all he didn't give a damn over what Alicia might or might not be thinking.

So, all in all things seemed to be calming down and his life falling into place again like it had been before Grace Florrick showed up. He was grateful the memories of her mother had been less often, and Grace was less closed off, and more laughter and smiles than Alicia had been the years after she came back into his life. So the memories he had once in a while now were more of Georgetown days. Because the Alicia he had known back in those days her daughter seemed very in tune with. Actually her daughter in spirits more than in looks seemed like the spitting image of that Alicia.

However the moment he took in who was sitting and waiting in his office that day he knew apparently it had been the calm before a storm, like it always seemed to be when it came to that family and him.

"Mr. Gold. Long time no see. To what do I owe the honor of the President's chief of Staff showing up in my humble office in person?" He asked the gray haired man looking up at him. He hadn't seen Eli Gold in years, well a few photos here and there during the campaign but that was it. Nothing else. And here he was sitting in his office.

"Mr. Gardner, my pleasure!" He gave him a deliberated smile in return, one as fake as ever. Will sighed and made a motion to Hannah, while miming the word coffee to her, making her nod. He knew he would get a cup as soon as she had finished her phone call. Will took his time taking his coat off and sitting down, before turning his attention to Eli Gold again.

"So I assume the fact your are in my office with no planned meeting is connected to the fact that I have hired Miss. Florrick?" Will asked him, watching as Eli laced and unlaced his fingers over and over.

"Yes. You need to fire her and send her home." The other man voiced, or rather demanded. Will however shrugged his shoulders.

"I am not forcing her to work here. She came on her own. She is free to leave, I actually did try to turn her away. But she was persistent. She said she had it cleared with the president himself." Will was impressed with himself for not spitting the last word out but actually keeping his voice clean and leveled.

That apparently seemed to shock Eli Gold, he actually seemed downright worried.

"What else did she tell you?" He asked, and Will squinted at him. There was something up here, a smoking gun of some kind. He wasn't completely sure what that could be. Maybe Grace really had run away from home. That made him want to snicker, Peter Florrick's golden child running away from him. He was pretty sure that could cause the president a minor scandal, and he wished he would give a damn but he really couldn't. He didn't give ten damns for that family anymore. Well maybe he was starting to give a little regarding Grace, but that he based on seeing her interact with Mel, and working with her. She wasn't the worst company in the world.

"Nothing Mr. Gold." He answered truthfully. And the way Eli looked at him and then sighed and looked down almost relieved convinced Will he believed him.

"Okay but since you didn't want her here in the first place send her home now. This isn't smart. Her working out here. The secret service keeping an eye on her in secret because if she found out I don't know what she would do." Eli explained. And that was news to Will. After all Grace had said she had send them away.

"They are still here?" He asked, and Eli nodded.

"Of course, they are not allowed to just leave, it is already risky they don't check every room she enters. But leaving her completely out here could never happen. However please don't tell her they are here." He asked suddenly and Will shrugged his shoulders.

"I don't want to lie to her, if she asks I will tell her the truth. And Grace is free to leave if she wants to. But something tells me she doesn't and that is why you are here. To try and get her home with you? Am I right?" He asked and Eli flinched, he was clearly out of his league here, the chief of staff, crises manager and Will should feel bad for him. He knew he should. But he didn't after all Eli had been a part of those that painted him as the Don Juan that seduced the newly elected governor's wife and made a happily married woman cheat on her beloved husband. Nothing that had been further from the real truth. But it had still been the truth the medias showed over and over again. And he knew Eli was behind making that spin. So Peter came out looking the winner and him the monster that slept with other men's wives. So yeah here he was seated in front of him clearly in a position where he needed Will's help, something Will fully knew would be hell for Eli. But he didn't feel sorry for him not at all.

"Just fire her, or there will be consequences." Eli almost threatened him and Will couldn't help but let out a dry laughter.

"I am sorry Mr. Gold but I have no idea what you could do to me. Also if you intend on anything maybe remind your boss of the election back in 2013 and that I was his lawyer there." He sent Eli a hard gaze, one that surprised him, and he seemed unsettled.

"What do you mean?" He asked and Will shrugged his shoulders.

"Just tell him that, and he will be glad I didn't say anything else. Now I have a client coming in in five minutes so if you would excuse me." He moved to stand and opened the door, so Eli had no other choice but to do as he indicated. He stood up and moved to the door.

"You have no idea what you are getting involved in Will. You should listen to me." He was almost begging now, and Will stared at him trying to read him, but he got nothing. He had no idea what this could really be about. "You are upsetting the waters." Eli mumbled, but at the same time they both heard a gasp. They looked over to Grace that had just come out of the room Will had arranged as her office for now.

"Grace!" Eli sighed. Will took in how Grace expression changed from shock, to fear, to anger, to hate, to actual pure furry.

"Mr. Gold." her voice was hard, and Will could see Alicia as clear as daylight in the young woman in that moment.

"Grace. I was just discussing you returning with me to DC with Mr. Gardner!" Grace's eyes flickered from Eli to Will himself, and he felt suddenly caught in a weird place. He had said he wouldn't lie to Grace, but he also wouldn't keep her from returning home should she wish to.

"Is that true? You are letting me go because the President flies out his little hand holder to do his dirty work?" Grace's words were far harder, and Will couldn't help noticing how she said the president instead of her father or dad. But he had sworn he wouldn't lie so right now he had other things to focus on.

"No, I said you were free to go if you wished to. But I wouldn't force you to."He made clear, and got an angry look form Eli for it.

"Well in that case Goodbye Mr. Gold. Have a safe flight home I hope there isn't too much turbulence!" She answered, and walked back into her own office, slamming the door shut.

"I guess that was a no!" Will commented, while Eli left the office without another word, and no other choice, than to do so.
