Ok, so I'm sorry to say that I'm rapidly losing motivation to write this story. So here's the deal: for every 10 reviews y'all leave, I will post a new chapter within 24 hours of the 10th review. I don't do this to be mean - I just don't want to write this if there's no one out there reading it. So please, review. Please.
It was three days later when Peeta saw Katniss again. She was standing outside the bakery waiting for it to open, a suitcase resting at her side.
Peeta opened the door cautiously. "Katniss, what are you doing here?"
She smiled. "I...uhm...Finn and I are driving down to Panem for the weekend, and I was hoping to get some cheese buns for the trip. Can you hook me up?"
Peeta wanted to say no. He wanted to beg Katniss to stay there with him. He wanted to promise to make her cheese buns every hour of every day until she got sick of them.
He wanted to say that, but instead he shrugged. "Yeah, I'll just grab some from the display case."
He bagged the buns, handed them to her, and after a brief hug and a "goodbye," he watched Katniss run out to the street and jump into Finnick's rented Toyota Tacoma. Finnick leaned across the console and kissed her, pulling away much too slowly for Peeta's liking.
It was going to be a long weekend.
Katniss opened the sunroof and stood up on her seat as they cruised down the highway, pushing her upper torso through the opening and waving at the cars surrounding theirs.
"C'mon, Kat, you're gonna hurt yourself," Finnick laughed, tugging lightly on her pant leg.
Katniss begrudgingly ducked back into a sitting position. She pressed the button above the dash and closed the sunroof. "You're no fun," she pouted.
Finnick gasped with mock anger. "What did you just say?"
Katniss smiled and leaned across the console to get in her boyfriend's face. "You're. No. Fun." She punctuated each word, wanting to provoke Finnick.
Sure enough, Finnick signaled and drove to the side of the highway with impressive speed, parked, and unhooked his seatbelt. "I think I may have to teach you a lesson, Everdeen." And with that, he pulled her onto his lap and ravaged her.
"What's wrong bro?" Thresh asked when he came into the bakery that afternoon.
Peeta didn't answer, but continued to angrily kneed the dough in front of him.
Thresh tried again. "Do you wanna talk about it?"
No answer.
"Start talking now or I'm taking my pants off."
"She's going to Panem with Finnick," Peeta mumbled toward the dough.
Thresh sat down on a stool by Peeta's workspace. "Who?"
"Katniss."
"You mean that chick that comes in here for lunch every day? So what? Finnick's her boyfriend, isn't he?"
Peeta nodded.
Thresh was confused. "So why shouldn't they go away together?" Then it hit him. "You have a thing for her, don't you!"
Peeta shook his head. "No, I don't have a thing for her, I just...I don't know...I don't think Finn's good enough for her."
"Wasn't he, like, your best friend in college?"
"Yeah, but...I mean...Katniss isn't just any girl. She's special. And he doesn't see it. And she deserves someone who does."
Thresh nodded with a knowing smile. "So...you?"
"No, not me. Just...someone. Someone better than Finnick."
With a final punch, Peeta decided the dough was done and turned to face his friend, who just smiled at him.
"Whatever you say, man," Thresh said. "Whatever you say."
"So what are we gonna do now that we're here?"
Katniss and Finnick had finally gotten to Finnick's apartment in Panem, and enjoyed a quick "welcome home" romp on his couch. Now they were laying there, naked and satisfied.
"Well," Finnick sighed, "I was thinking that tonight I'd make us some dinner, and then tomorrow I could take you by the studio and introduce you to some of my co-workers."
Katniss turned to him. "I thought you said you didn't have to work this weekend..."
He nodded. "I don't. But I don't know when I'll have another chance to show you off."
Katniss smiled. "Alright. We'll go. Damn, what am I gonna wear to a modeling studio..."
"You'll be fabulous no matter what." He gave her a sweet kiss. "Now, how does pasta a la Finnick sound?"
"Sounds great."
She watched as Finnick rose from the couch and headed into the kitchen. "Put some clothes on before you touch my food!" she yelled.
He walked back to the couch and grabbed his pants, sliding them on quickly, and made a face and he returned to the other room.
Katniss laughed. Being with Finn really was delightful. She was glad they were getting this time together.
But why did she miss Peeta?
