Tsubasa Chronicles: Howls of Time
Special: Coming Together
"Here we are in the next world!" said Mokona joyfully.
Toboe looked around with a smile. The sun was out and they were surrounded on all sides by lush forest, it was nice.
"Hm, peaceful, there's a nice change for once" said Fai.
Toboe had to agree, "You're right, normally we're in a fight the moment we land" he said as he stood to his feet.
Kurogane tsked in distain, "Looks like I'm out of luck, again."
"Don't feel too bad Kurgie, it's not my world either" said Fai.
Toboe rose an eyebrow at that, pretty sure Fai was definitely happy this was not his world.
"A lake."
Toboe turned to find both Sakura and Syaoran standing beside a lake with pristine crystal blue water.
Sakura smiled at the beauty of it, "It's pretty."
Toboe walked up to stand next to her with a gentle grin, "You're right, this is not something you would see every day in my world" he said as he looked around.
"Oh, what is your world like Toboe?" asked Syaoran with curiosity.
Toboe's smile fell slightly, "Well, you could call it a dead land. Places like these were rare to find. And even so, they were taken over by the Nobles who ruled my world with an iron fist. Now that they are all dead, except for Darcia, I am not sure what is happening now. Maybe…it's finally been blanketed in the ice of eternal sleep."
The others were staring at him in silence, all with their own reactions to the Wolf's story.
"And this Darcia…you said he was searching for…Paradise?" asked Kurogane.
Toboe turned to him, "Yes, my friends and I…searched for it with Darcia on pursuit. Cheza was our maiden who led us to the gates…but…not all of us made it. In the end Darcia…" Toboe closed his eyes and turned away from all of them, "Darcia stole Cheza…he was unable to enter Paradise and so he used her to enter other worlds."
The wolf felt a hand take his and looked to see Sakura look sadly up at him before smiling. Toboe looked a moment before smiling at her as well.
"So, what exactly are we doing!? There's not a house or person in sight!" yelled Kurogane in frustration.
They had been searched for a while now but all they found was trees, grass, bushes, and the lake.
"Well, it seems that this lake is this world's only special feature" said Fai.
They were once again standing by the lake with no clear idea on what to do.
"I don't smell anything remotely with Sakura's scent, but there is something strong here" said Toboe.
"He's right, Toboe's such a good puppy!" yelled Toboe.
Toboe blushed and bashfully lowered his head. He growled when Kurogane began laughing.
"So where is it?" asked Syaoran.
Mokona jumped off Fai's shoulder and pointed down to the lake, "Down there."
They all looked down at the lake.
"So, we're just supposed to jump in?" asked Kurogane.
Of course there was skepticism, they had just come to this new world and had no idea what to expect. It was not like any other world where they had firsthand knowledge of what was going on.
In the end Syaoran volunteered himself, assuring Sakura, when she voiced her worry and concern, that he would be okay. That left everyone to sit and wait.
"Uh, give me that stupid wizard, you're doing it wrong!"
Toboe looked up from the Moon of the Moon he was reading in his lap to find Kurogane angrily yelling at Fai who was trying to make a fire the old fashioned way and failing.
"Oh Kuro-ton, don't be mad."
"Why you!"
Toboe grinned before pointing at the pile of sticks he and Sakura had collected earlier.
"Blessed mother moon, descend your lunar tears and bring forth your gentle warmth."
As he spoke the ancient language of wolves appeared around him, a magic circle appearing at his fingertip. The others were now turned towards him in wonder and surprise. Red glittering dust came out of the circle and danced through the air, forming into the shape of dancing fairies who frolicked about.
"Pretty" gushed Mokona as he watched them
The dancing fairies then settled on the sticks and burst into flames, a gentle howl was heard.
"Wow! Toboe, was that magic!?" asked Mokona.
"You're certainly full of surprises, Toboe" said Fai as he smiled down at the fire.
Toboe smiled at them all, "I am only just learning as I go" he said as he held up the Book of the Moon.
"Is that where you are learning it?" asked Fai.
"Yes, it is the book of my people. It holds all the knowledge of the wolves, and of Lunar Alchemy, among other things."
"It must be very special" said Sakura, drawing Toboe's attention to her, "You treat it with such care, and when you were turning the pages you were so gentle."
Toboe gave her a gentle smile before looking down at the book, remembering all the memories it held for him, all the people he and come to know and lose. Of all the good and the bad.
"Yes, it is very sacred to me."
They heard the sound of water and all turned to find Syaoran walking up to them.
Sakura smiled brightly, "You're safe."
Syaoran grinned at her, "Told you everything was okay."
Toboe sat up in a tree, listening sadly as Sakura talked about her recent memory to Syaoran. He could smell the boy's sorrow coming off of him. Toboe felt his sadness. He could not imagine having the most special person is your world never remember you again. Even if Syaoran had the desire to tell Sakura about all their times together, Sakura would never remember.
"It's weird, but at least I remember something."
Toboe grinned, sensing the joy from both teens. Even though there was still the slight scent of sorrow on the boy.
When Syaoran walked away a bit Toboe followed him and found him sitting by the lake, looking out over the water.
"You're thinking so hard I can hear you" said Toboe with a grin.
Syaoran turned to him before turning back around. Toboe walked over and sat down.
"She's a nice girl."
Again the brunette looked at him.
"Something tells me that in her world, wherever Sakura went she made people smile."
Syaoran blinked at the wolf before grinning, "She did. Her smile was like a ray of sunshine. Just having her around was enough to make anyone smile and laugh."
Toboe hummed before looking at the boy, "Then why is it that when she smiles now, you seem so sad and withdrawn?"
This startled the brunette who looked at the wolf in surprise.
"Syaoran, when I first met you, you were so driven and passionate about saving Sakura. Not that that's not the case now. However…when she woke up, you seemed to draw back. You withheld your emotions and kept your distance from her. The first words I heard you say were "Save Sakura!"…but since she's been awake, you keep calling her princess and have been so formal with her."
Syaoran lowered his head to look at his hands resting in his lap.
"I'm not one want to judge…but…maybe you should try talking with her more. Let her get to know you again. I know you have seen her reluctance and confusion when she's around us, right?"
Syaoran's eyes widened slightly at that.
"She woke up without any memories, told she was going on a journey with, technically, four strangers she's never met before, at least to her. She's confused Syaoran and she needs to know that someone is there for her. She's lost her memories…but deep down…she still remembers."
Syaoran was silent for a moment before standing. Toboe looked up at the brunette who seemed to stare into space a bit. The teen then looked down at Toboe and grinned.
"Thanks Toboe."
Toboe smiled and nodded before watching Syaoran walk back over to Sakura. He then turned his thoughts on his own struggles.
Toboe was now sitting with Kurogane and Fai after the two had finally come back from exploring with no such luck. Mokona sleeping in Fai's lap.
"So cute" said Fai as he smiled down at the pink creature.
"I wonder if sending us to worlds tires him out" inquired Toboe.
"I am sure it takes a lot of out of the tiny guy" said Fai chuckling at what Mokona was saying as he mumbled in his sleep.
"Wish the damn thing could take us to where we want to go" growled Kurogane as he glared at the pink ball.
"I don't think it works like that Kuro-pi."
They sat there for a moment in serene silence.
"Toboe?"
"Hm?" asked the wolf, turning to Fai.
"Can you tell me more about Cheza?"
Toboe stared at him a second, "Uh, like what?"
"Anything really."
"Oh well. She was born from Lunar flowers."
"She was created out of a flower?" asked Kurogane skeptically.
Toboe nodded, ignoring the man's tone, "Yes, by the use of alchemy. She had to use sunlight and drink water to live. It was convenient and hard since we barely had any food, and water was hard to come by unless you knew where to look. However, Cheza seemed to know all the time," Toboe was smiling now, "she always called herself "This One" instead of using "I". She always knew how to make us happy, and was always there for us."
Fai looked at him before grinning, "Sounds like Chii."
"Chii?" asked Toboe.
"I created her…she never left my side. Even in my saddest moments. She was always caring and gentle. I honestly don't know what I would have done without her."
Toboe smiled as he saw Fai truly smile. He turned to Kurogane.
The black soldier looked at him before glaring, "Don't expect me to join this buddy buddy moment. I ain't got to share anything with you people."
"But Kuro-ki, this is bonding time, bonding" said Fai.
"You don't have to if you don't want to" said Toboe.
Kurogane turned away from them. Both chuckled at the man before leaving it at that, thinking the man would not share anything.
"My parents were killed."
Toboe and Fai turned to the man who refused to look at them.
"It was Princess Tomoyo who saved me and took me in."
The two smiled at him.
"See that was not so hard Kuro-tan!" said Fai happily.
"SHUT UP!"
Night was falling now, and the group were all around the fire. Feeling joy and anxiety Toboe looked up at the moon to find it full and majestic.
"Well, look at that" he heard Fai say as the man admired the stunning sky jewel.
The moon was indeed big, bigger than normal, and shimmering a beautiful blue.
Succumbing to his urge Toboe's eyes turned gold and he opened his mouth.
The others were startled a bit and looked at Toboe who was letting out a mighty and gentle howl. Syaoran and Sakura stared at him in awe, Mokona was gushing over the boy from Fai's shoulder who was grinning at him. Kurogane seemed in awe, but of course he would kill anyone who dared mention that.
Sakura smiled, "beautiful, it's like…he's singing."
"You're right" said Syaoran with a grin.
They all then noticed a glow appear to their left and turned to find the lake glowing. Toboe cutting his song short.
"What could that be I wonder" said Fai.
They all walked over to the lake whose waters now shimmered golden. Toboe stared transfixed by the water. Eyes still golden.
He walked closer to the water, Sakura begging him not to. Syaoran walked over as well.
"There's something down there" said the teen before he prepared to jump in.
"No, please wait" said Sakura, scared for his safety.
Syaoran turned to her, "Don't worry it'll be okay."
"Are you so sure about that, Syaoran? We don't exactly know what's down there" asked Fai.
Syaoran was taking off his cloak, setting it on the ground, "If there was, I am sure Mokona and Toboe would say if it was dangerous" he said before looking at the two mentioned.
"I…sense nothing malicious from the lake…."
"Nope, nope, nope" said Mokona.
Syaoran smiled at the rest of them, "See?"
With that he dived in. The group waited for him short while, the water slowly turning to gold which surprised them a bit.
Fai then frowned slightly, "Something's coming."
That made the others tense, more so because Fai did not exactly say what was coming was Syaoran. They waited a bit until the water was suddenly disturbed. Sakura made to get closer but Toboe gently took her hand and shook his head when she turned to look at him.
They all watched as the surface of the water broke and a creature appeared, taking the resemblance of a white whale. It swam over to them, gazing up at them with lavender jewel eyes.
"Child of the Moon, I have heard your song."
Toboe gasped.
"Such beauty it beheld."
"Uh, thank you."
The creature's eyes then lingered to Sakura.
"You girl…I sense a great desire in you."
Sakura backed away slightly, unsure of the creature.
"What…what is it that you desire so strongly? Why are you here? What do you seek?"
"I…um…I…."
"I asked a question."
"…I desire…I-"
"Sakura!" called Mokona when the princess suddenly went limp and fell to her knees. Fai quickly knelt down and held her just as she was falling back.
"What is it…I-what is it?"
"Sakura!? Sakura!?" cried Toboe as he knelt down next to her.
"Who…who is that?" asked the girl before promptly passing out.
Syaoran took a large breath as he finally reached the surface before swimming to the shore. He was about to climb out when he noticed everyone kneeling around Sakura. He frowned in worry before getting out of the water and running over.
"What happened!?" he asked.
Fai turned to him, "Don't worry, she's just asleep."
Syaoran physically calmed down, sighing a breath of relief.
Fai smiled knowingly at the brunette, "Sorry about that."
"No, it's just…" the boy trailed off.
"You're afraid that she'll never wake up…that she'll slip away again, and all your efforts will be for nothing, am I right?"
Syaoran lowered his head in answer.
"You know, that's not healthy. Instead of focusing on the bad things, you should be happy no matter the situation. None of us will think poorly of you if you smiled a bit more, laughed even. In fact, we may respect you for it."
Syaoran looked unsure.
"You're a very strong boy, Syaoran. I doubt many could keep going on like you are now. Driven by the need to save the one you care about even if in the end your heart is broken" continued to wizard.
Toboe looked at Syaoran, "Worrying does you no good after all."
Syaoran looked at him.
"Worrying does not serve a purpose, it just drains your strength. Strength you'll need when it really counts."
Toboe closed his eyes, thinking about how he had carelessly pushed through till now to find Cheza.
"Just take it easy, and relax" Toboe looked up at him, "Because you'll definitely reach your goal."
Fai grinned at the wolf, happy to know that the boy was finally relaxing himself. Maybe this world was doing them some good after all.
"Yeah, yeah, listen to Fai and Toboe," said Mokona from Syaoran's shoulder, pocking his cheek, "It makes Mokona happy when Syaoran's happy."
Syaoran smiled at him, "Okay."
"Suppose that goes for us to, right Kuro-poo? The kids are showing us up" said Fai with a chuckle.
"Leave me out of it" said Kurogane with a grin.
They all then heard a slight whimper and looked down to find Sakura stirring.
"Hey, looks like she's finally awake."
Before any of them could react however Sakura was up and running, talking about how she had to follow it. Syaoran yelled after her in confusion, wondering what she as talking out. They all followed her and when Syaoran called out again just when Sakura was about to go into the water Sakura seemed to at last notice them or at least Syaoran. Toboe smiled when Sakura had said she was about to go into the water after the boy, and wondered if Sakura still remembered Syaoran on instinct.
"Oh yeah, there's something I wanted to show you, princess."
"So there's a world down there yay big, with people who are even tinier. Yeah right" said Kurogane in disbelief.
Syaoran had returned with the Princess with a glowing scale in hand.
"I wonder if that creature we saw was in fact the sun for those people in the little town" said Fai thoughtfully.
"Wish I could have seen it" said Toboe.
"So this was what that big aura was" said Mokona as he examined the scale.
"It was really beautiful, and fascinating" said Sakura.
Kurogane gave a "humph", "I still think you two were hallucinating."
"Why is it so hard to believe? You can't go through life believing only in what you see, you know?"
Kurogane looked a bit upset at being told this.
"The world is full of buried secrets and treasures that people only dream of finding."
Kurogane sighed, "Whatever that means."
"I'm sure you know what it means Kurogane, you're just being a sourpuss" grinned Toboe.
"What did you call me mutt!?"
"Now, now" said Fai, coming in between them.
"So, are you sure that's the only power you sensed, Mokona?" asked Syaoran.
"Mokona doesn't feel anything else."
"So then this was just a waste of time" said Kurogane.
"I would not say that" said Fai before looking at them all, "Doesn't it feel like, as a group, we have come closer together?"
Everyone stared at that before looking at one another.
"I mean look at Syaoran, his spirit's brightened up a lot. We started this journey with our own goals in mind…and even though we all agreed to help one another I think…this is where we have really come to know each other a little bit more."
That got some smiles, a frown in Kurogane's case, and a giggle from Sakura.
"And this time, we know we are not alone" said Toboe with a grin as Mokona jumped onto his shoulder.
"Well then, off to the next world I guess" said Syaoran as he looked at Mokona.
"AYE, AYE!" said Mokona with a salute.
I actually had a blast writing this Special Chapter, I hope you guys like it. I wanted this world to be where the group bonds together and gets to know one another more. Thanks for Reading and please Review!
