Chapter Ten: Until Death Do Us Part
"Are you excited?" Miss Kate smiled as she did up the buttons along the back of Ada's wedding dress.
"Of course," Ada smiled as Sharon helped her braid her hair up into a crown, "I'm sure Gilbert is too."
"He's so lucky," The brunette smiled as she secured Ada's golden hair back with pins, "You both are."
Ada looked at herself in the mirror and couldn't help but smile. Sharon had helped her pick such a lovely dress. The white fabric fit snuggly against the curves of her bodice until it reached just above her naval. Then the dress became into a layered lace skirt that flowed down to just barely brush against the floor. The lace was embroidered with patterns of roses, vines, and baby's breath. The sleeves were made of the same fabric, hugging her arms and ending at her wrists to come to a point at the back of her hands.
Miss Kate pulled out a handkerchief and began wiping her eyes, "You look so lovely, Miss Ada."
The blonde turned, "Miss Kate, please don't cry."
"Everyone cries at weddings," Sharon smiled, "It's the good kind of crying though, so you shouldn't worry."
"Well…" Ada nodded, "Okay…"
Gilbert buttoned his shirt and stopped over the ring hanging from his neck. He smiled as he held it in his fingers, the small golden rose shining from the light coming through the window. He looked at it for a moment before tucking in back into his shirt and buttoning it up the rest of the way. He pulled on the vest and began to button it as well.
"Wow," Vincent stood in the doorway, "That sure is a fancy outfit."
Gilbert turned to look at his brother before he looked back in the mirror and began to tie his tie, "What are you doing here, Vincent? You weren't invited."
"But I want to see my big brother get married," he sauntered into the room, "Even if it is to that Vessalius tramp."
Gilbert turned, clenching his fists, "Vincent, I don't want you here. And you will not talk about Ada that way."
Vincent laughed, "But that isn't fair~! Elliot gets to be here!"
"And Elliot isn't a homicidal maniac. He promised not to drink," Gil went back to tying his tie, "Last time you were here, you cut up Ada's cat."
"I'll be good!" Vincent snapped, "This is crazy, Gilbert."
"I can't let you. You scare Ada," he turned, his tie tied and he pulled on his jacket, "You aren't welcome here. Go home before I make someone take you home."
There was a faint knock on the door before it opened just a crack, "Are you all dressed Ada?"
Ada turned to look at the door before going back to her jewelry box, "You can come in as long as Gilbert isn't with you. He isn't allowed to see the dress until the wedding."
"It's just me," Oz came in before shutting the door behind him. Ada turned over her shoulder to look at him before smiling, "Oz, you look so handsome."
"Oh please," he looked down at his suit, "This old thing?"
She giggled before getting up to hug him, "Thank you for being here."
"How could I not be?" he smiled and stroked her cheek, "It's your wedding." He chuckled as he hugged her, "To my best friend."
She looked at him before looking down at his hands and noticing a small box with a blue bow, "What's this?"
He smiled, "I noticed you still hadn't picked a necklace," he held the box out to her.
She took it before sitting and pulling it open, "Oh, Oz…"
The blue stone sparkled surrounded by tiny diamonds. It hung at the end of a silver, diamond studded chain. She picked it up from the box, feeling its weight, "It's beautiful…"
He gently took it and fastened it around her neck, "You had everything but something blue. I thought perhaps this would suffice."
Her fingers came up to touch the stone before she turned to look at him, "Thank you so much." She hugged him once more with happy tears in her eyes, "Wherever did you find something so lovely?"
He stroked her cheek and smiled, "Don't worry about it. I just wanted to give you something nice."
"I really do appreciate it," she came up to touch the stone once more, "It's so lovely."
"Ada," he smiled up at her, "I have to be going now. I'll see you in just a little while, okay?"
She nodded.
"Uncle Oscar should be here soon," he walked towards the door, "I love you."
"I love you too," she smiled before he closed the door.
"Are you nervous?" Oz looked at Gilbert as they stood at the end of the isle.
Gil nodded, "And excited."
"She is too."
"You went to go see her?"
"Of course I did," Oz smiled, "She's my sister."
"How is she?" Gilbert clasped his hands together behind his back.
"Lovely as always," Oz glanced at Gilbert, "You really do love her, don't you?"
Gilbert glanced back before smiling adjusting his tie, "Of course I do, Oz. I've always loved her."
Oz smiled and started to say something else, but the music started. The crowd stood. Gilbert felt his heart flutter in his chest. Ada stood at the end of the aisle, holding Oscar's arm. She smiled; it took all of her strength not to run to him.
When Uncle Oscar took her hand and placed it into his, her heart leapt in her chest. Everything about him, every moment of their lives together began replaying in her mind. She squeezed his hand lightly.
"Now, I believe that the bride and groom have written vows for each other?" The priest looked between the two of them. The couple met eyes before nodding.
Ada looked up into her lovers eyes before smiling, "Gilbert, from the moment I met you when we were children, I knew that you were more than just "My brother's best friend." As we grew older, I realized that you were the one that I wanted to spend the rest of my life with. When I was sixteen, I finally mustered up the courage to tell you. And since then, I never felt so strongly for anyone else. And from this day on, I vow never to love anyone as much as I love you. I promise that I'll always do my best to take care of you and keep you happy."
"And I," he sat his hand atop hers, "Promise to love, cherish, and always do everything in my abilities to ensure your happiness and safety."
"As long as you both shall live?" The Priest asked.
Gil smiled, "I do."
"I do," Ada squeezed his and he squeezed back.
"By the power invested in me by the church and the lord above, I now pronounce you husband and wife."
The two laughed, looking I each other's eyes, "I love you."
"I love you."
"You now may kiss the bride."
The small crowd applauded as the couple kissed. As they came back down the aisle together, they tossed rice over the happy couple.
A/N: sincerest apologies for not updating in so long. I have the summer to try and update more before I start back up with schooling again, so there should be one or two more chapters within the next few months. Please bear with me!
