A/n: Gosh darn it people. It seems like none of you can really decide what House Saphira should be in. All three are tied. And I can't decide which one to put her into. The next chapter will be the sorting, but I have no idea which house to put her in!
Also, for those of you who didn't know, Clara and Rose were both born in 1986. Clara won't be at Hogwarts since she's five at this time, but I will somehow weave her in, don't worry. And maybe a young Rose as well ;)
Chapter Ten
Aboard the Hogwarts Express
A month passed, and the first of September had arrived. Rose, Jack, the Doctor, Harry, and Saphira were piled in a rental car (they didn't want to park the Tardis in the Station- they would have received odd looks from everyone if five people, luggage, an owl, a cat, and a dog all came out of a 1960's police box) and were nearing King's Cross Station. Jack was driving, and the Doctor was in the passenger's seat, while Rose sat between Harry and Saphira, Diesel at their feet. Koschei was sulking in a cat carrier on Saphira's lap, and Hedwig was in her cage on Harry's lap. In other words, the car ride was quite a cramped one.
The Doctor was telling them stories about his adventures with the Ponds and River Song (with some comments from Jack, he had run into River a few times). At first, he was afraid that Rose would be upset that he was married to River Song, but she had laughed it off, reminding him of the few accidental marriages and proposals and whatnot they had went through before. Saphira was slightly upset about the fact that she would never get to meet them, and Harry was just fascinated with everything.
"So you and River kept meeting each other, but didn't know when the last time you met?" Harry asked.
"Well, it's kind of difficult. Her past is my future, and her future is my past. Although we did have a few in between meetings. It's all wibbly-wobbly timey-whimy," The Doctor explained, earning light laughter from the other car occupants.
"Timey-whimy? Really, Doc?" Jack asked as he pulled into the parking lot. The Doctor shrugged, unabashed by his childish wording.
They clambered out of the car, retrieved two luggage trollies (a/n: is that what they're called?) and Jack and the Doctor (mostly Jack) hoisted the luggage on, with Hedwig and Koschei balanced on top. Together, the five of them strolled into King's Cross Station- Jack and the Doctor pushing the trollies, Rose holding on Diesel's leash, and Harry and Saphira chatting excitedly.
They made it onto the platform, and Jack helped the children hoist their luggage into an empty compartment. They said their farewells, and the two children clambered into their compartment.
"I wonder what Houses we'll be sorted into," Saphira mused, scratching Koschei behind the ears. The tabby purred unwillingly, closing his eyes in bliss.
"Who knows," Harry said with a shrug. "I think I might be in Gryffindor."
"Brave, noble and chivalrous," Saphira summed up. "Hufflepuffs are loyal and hardworking, Ravenclaws are intelligent and witty, and Slytherins are cunning and ambitious. Technically, we could fit into all four houses. I guess they choose by which of the traits stand out the most."
"Or they choose the traits that you lack, and that's how you gain those traits. All of them are pretty important," Harry pointed out.
"Yeah, you're right about that," Saphira said, just as a red-haired boy came by.
"Excuse me," he began nervously. "Can I sit here? Everywhere else is full."
"Sure." "Not a problem."
"I'm Ron Weasley," the boy introduced himself once he was situated. He was sitting on the opposite bench from Harry and Saphira.
"I'm Saphira Evans, and this is Harry Potter," the blonde girl replied, a small smirk crossing her face as Ron's eyes widened and he stared at Harry in surprise.
"You're Harry Potter?" he echoed in disbelief. Harry nodded, and lifted his bangs to reveal the lightning shaped scar.
"Though the credit should go to my mother. She's the reason I'm here. Saphira's mother told me that it was thanks to my mother's sacrifice and love for me that prevented the killing curse from... well... killing me," Harry explained, letting his bangs drop back into place.
"Wow," was all Ron could utter, before he heard his name being called. "I'll be right back, my mum's calling." The two friends nodded and watched the gathering of redheads.
"Hey mum, guess who's on the train? Harry Potter!" Ron exclaimed excitedly.
"Oh, mum, can I go see him?" the only red-haired girl asked her mother eagerly. Saphira giggled at that and Harry blushed lightly.
"Now Ginny, the poor boy is not something you goggle at in a zoo. Are you sure it's him Ron?" the mother asked.
"Positive. Showed me the scar. And he told me that it was his mum who saved him from the killing curse."
"Well then bless that woman. Poor dear, never getting see her child grow up. Now, Ron, boys, I don't want you bothering him for anything on the night it happened. And treat him like a friend, the boy must be lonely."
"Aw, that lady's sweet," Saphira cooed, and Harry agreed. Koschei merely rolled his brown eyes, annoyed since Saphira was hugging him tightly. All of a sudden, the train whistled loudly, indicating that it was time to leave. The red headed boys all clambered onto the train and waved goodbye to their mother and sister. Moments later, Ron rejoined them, followed by his twin brothers.
"So ickle Ronnikins was right!" one twin said excitedly, looking at Harry in amazement. "It really is Harry Potter!"
"I'm Fred, and this is George. Ron here is our younger brother," the other twin introduced.
"Well you know who I am," Harry said with a small grin, "and this is my friend, Saphira Evans. Her dad is the new Muggle Studies Professor."
"Dad told us there was going to be a new teacher for that class," George noted, "is he any good?"
"I don't know how good dad's teaching skills are, but he is a brilliant man," Saphira replied with a grin. "His lessons are bound to be interesting."
"Cool. Anyways," Fred said, turning towards Ron, "we're headed for the middle of the train. Lee said he's got a tarantula. Wanna come?"
"No, I'm good," Ron said, his face pale. Saphira and Harry exchanged a quick glance, coming to the same conclusion. Ron must be afraid of spiders.
"Alright then, see you!" The twins walked out of the compartment, sliding the door shut behind them.
"Wonder what its like to have a sibling," Saphira mused, scratching Koschei's ears, earning a reluctant purr from the cat. Harry shrugged.
"I think its awful," Ron muttered grumpily. "I've got five older brothers and a younger sister."
"Geez, you've got a lively house," Harry said. "At least you'll never have a dull moment." That earned a bit of a smile from Ron.
"Yeah, that's true. Fred and George are always doing something. Annoys mum a lot. Percy, though, he's a bit of a stick in the mud, to be honest. Always being proper; never joining us for anything that's fun," Ron said.
"What about your other two brothers?" Saphira asked, interested.
"Bill- he's the oldest- works for Gringotts. He's a curse-breaker. And Charlie works with dragons."
"Dragons? That sounds really cool!" Saphira exclaimed, her blue eyes glowing.
"It is. Though, having five brothers, it kind of makes it hard for me when I get to school. I've got a lot to live up to. Bill was Head Boy; Charlie was Quidditch Captain; Percy's a Prefect; and then Fred and George mess around a lot, but they've still got good grades," Ron sighed.
"I'm sure you'll find something," Saphira said reassuringly. "There's always something for everyone. Dad always told me that everyone's important. One day, you'll find out what you're good at and you'll make you're family proud." That brought a smile to Ron's face. Harry grinned as well.
The compartment door slid open. A nervous looking boy poked his head in.
"Excuse me," he stuttered. "Have you seen a toad? I've lost mine."
"No sorry," Harry said, the other two shaking their heads.
"Do you want help?" Saphira asked, earning a shaky smile from the boy.
"Yeah, thanks!" he said happily. "I'm Neville Longbottom."
"I'm Saphira Evans. These are my friends, Harry Potter and Ron Weasley." Both boys waved at Neville, and before Neville could start goggling over Harry, Saphira set Koschei on Harry's lap and pulled Neville out the compartment saying "come on, let's find that toad of yours. Then you can sit with us, if you'd like."
"You're friend's really nice," Ron observed.
"Yeah, she is. Just don't get on her bad side; she's been learning martial arts since she was four," Harry warned.
"Martial Arts?"
"A muggle style of fighting. I've seen her practice, and she's really good."
"Do you think she could teach me? I mean, learning magic is pretty cool, but if we could do something other wizards can't..." he trailed off, a slightly dreamy look on his face. Harry grinned.
"I'm sure if you asked her, she would teach you. Or you could ask her Uncle Jack. He's been teaching me some martial arts. He's even told me that he might start a Martial Arts class for those who want to learn. If Dumbledore lets him."
Before Ron could respond, Saphira returned with Neville and a girl with bushy brown hair. Neville had his toad in his hands, which indicated that they were successful.
"Hey guys! This is Hermione Granger, she's a muggleborn and a new friend. 'Mione, these are Ron Weasley and Harry Potter," Saphira said, throwing an arm around the girl's shoulders and grinning widely. "She was sitting by herself, so I invited her to come sit with us."
"Nice to meet you Hermione," Harry greeted with a smile. Hermione smiled somewhat nervously.
"Nice to meet you too."
As the train rattled onwards to their new school, Harry looked around at his new friends, grinning happily. It was hard to believe that only a few months ago, he was living with the Dursleys, lonely and bullied by his bigger cousin. Now, here he was with new friends, a family who accepted him for himself, and a new future to actually look forward too.
A/N: Draco will be introduced next chapter, along with a few others. And yes, Jack will be teaching Martial Arts. Until I think of something for Rose to do, she will be switching between being the Doctor's assistant and Jack's.
And for Merlin's sake, what am I going to do with Saphira? Which house does she belong to? I honestly cannot decide. And no, I'm not creating a new house. I'm sticking with the four.
Or she could just rotate between houses... I might not stick to canon houses for the others, depending on what I'll do with her...
