Chapter 10: That Kissing Game

I hadn't even caught Edward's joke about picking me up for school in my cloud of bliss last night. It was Saturday! I laughed as I realized he had picked me up to work on our costumes. I swung the door shut behind me and I grabbed his hand as I hopped off the porch. I grinned at him and said, "Let's go!"

Edward must have been just as excited as I was to get to work because as soon as we reached the pavement he gunned it and we sped off toward his house. All too soon we reached his house and we climbed the porch and walked through the front door. I could hear some noises coming from the kitchen and just as Edward called out to his mother, she walked in the room carrying a lunch bag in one hand and her purse and keys in the other.

She smiled her lovely smile and said, "Hello again, Bella dear. You're back quick, Edward. I hope you didn't speed too much…"

He grinned impishly and shrugged. "I may have. I was careful though."

She grinned back and glanced at her watch. Her grin turned to a frown and she hurried out the door with a quick goodbye. I turned to face Edward and said, "Ok, what's the plan for today? I get that we're crafting for our costume on Friday, but what else?"

He smiled grabbed my hand while saying, "Let's just work on the costumes and we can figure everything else out later."

His warm hand curled around my fingers and we climbed the stairs to his room. I retrieved my bag of supplies from his closet where we had left them and I sank down cross-legged on the floor. I laughed as he awkwardly sat on the floor beside me. He didn't manage to do so as gracefully as I had; of course it was because he was human and I was not. I pulled the supplies out of the bag and spread them out on the floor around us. I got to work putting together the outfit, starting with the female wig. I managed to convince Edward to let me put it on his head to cut it into the right hairstyle. I laughed once I got the wig settled on his head; he wasn't used to long hair being in his face so he kept blowing it out of his eyes and pulling it out of his mouth.

I got the thick hair of the wig parted right and stepped close to Edward with a pair of scissors in one hand, a hair squirt bottle in the other, and a fine tooth comb clenched between my lips. He looked nervous and it made me want to burst out laughing. He had no way of knowing that I was in my element. I had styled hair in Europe almost a century ago; of course I went by the name Theodora Moreau then so there was no way he would know that. I confidently sectioned the hair off and started snipping off the ends. The only thing I really had to change about the wig besides a little bit of the length was to incorporate more layers. It didn't take me long to finish and I held up a mirror for him to inspect my handiwork. He turned his head from side to side and patted the hair. His eyes were full of laughter when he made the comment, "You're magic, Bella. I look absolutely beautiful!"

My mouth popped open and bell-like laughter came bubbling up from my throat. I carefully twisted my hair up and took the wig off his head, transferring it to mine. I looked in the mirror and tucked the stray hairs that straggled around my face under the wig. I turned and looked at him. "How do I look?"

He looked like he was choking back laughter, so I planted my hands on my hips and glared at him. He giggled out loud and said, "You have to do that on Friday! It completes the look!"

I realized how ridiculous I looked and finally smiled. "I guess you're right. I look pretty ridiculous wearing this. I don't look good as a blonde."

Edward's laughter stopped and his face suddenly turned thoughtful. "On the contrary, I think you pull off being a blonde very well."

If I were human my face would have been red as a tomato. I suddenly felt very shy and my smile showed it as a glanced back at him under my eyelashes. I carefully took the wig off and set it off to the side. I walked into Edward's bathroom carrying a bag of my makeup supplies, with him shadowing me. He eyes me warily as I started to unpack all of my makeup, fanning it out on the vanity counter. I grinned as I reached back into his bedroom and grabbed the chair near the doorway, dragging it into the bathroom. I pulled it up by the counter full of products and pointed at the chair while staring at Edward. He took the hint and, although he looked nervous, took a seat in it. I stepped closer to him and the makeup and his heartbeat sped up, making my grin grow even bigger. "Trust me, this is going to be fun."

Edward POV:

Bella flitted around me, brushing several different products over my cheekbones, nose, and chin. I was just grateful that she hadn't used eyeliner and she had hardly used mascara. She laughed when I asked if she was going to put lipstick on me. God, I loved the sound of her laugh. It was like a melody that could be stuck in your head all day. I would dance around like a performing monkey if it meant she would laugh the whole time.

She had me take my shirt off and as she pulled the brush across my chest and arms, it raised goose bumps. I could have sworn I heard her laugh quietly, but when I glanced at her face it was completely smooth.

She stepped back and pursed her lips as she analyzed her makeup job. I couldn't help but stare at her lips for a few seconds, remembering the amazing kiss from last night. I felt slightly self-conscious even though I knew she was just looking at the job she had done. I could tell she was pleased with the result because a huge smile took over her mouth and made her eyes dance. I loved her smile. It was so warm and inviting.

She stepped back, snapping the makeup compact she was holding shut and tossed it on the counter. She clapped her hands together and laughed, "Ok, tell me what you think."

I turned and looked in the mirror. Man she was good at makeup…

Bella POV:

I was really happy with how my makeup job turned out on Edward. I couldn't help but notice the definition of his muscles, even without the makeup contouring them. I definitely did an amazing job on his facial makeup. The shape of his nose and cheekbones were completely different than how they had been when we started.

He turned his gorgeous green eyes back to mine and with a straight face said, "So do I get to do your makeup too?"

I started laughing and he joined, his laughter almost drowning out mine. I grabbed a makeup brush and held it out to him jokingly. He shook his head and gestured for me to go ahead. I set everything I would need to use in front of me and got to work on my own face. I lined my eyes and put mascara on my eyelashes. I put red lipstick on my full lips and contoured my nose and cheekbones. I noticed Edward watching me and I couldn't help but smile a little. I finished and looked at the final product in the mirror. I didn't look like myself at all, which was the point, and it was a startling difference. I looked at Edward and laughed. "Well we sure make quite the pair. We don't even look like ourselves!"

"I know. It's kind of scary, but you did an amazing job. We're going to look awesome on Friday!"

He walked over to me and held his hand up for a high five. I gave him a high five, but he kept ahold of my hand and looped his fingers through mine. He was staring straight in my eyes as he raised his hand and brushed my lips with his thumb. I could hear his heart pounding in his chest as he leaned in for a kiss. I closed my eyes and I could feel his breath on my skin, warming it. His lips brushed against mine, and I couldn't help my hand that twisted itself up the back of his neck and into his hair. I deepened the kiss, and it seemed like his heart was going to jump right out of his chest. I smiled, and he pulled back for a second to look at me.

My hands fell to rest on his shoulders as he caught his breath. The lights around the trees outside his window fell across his face, making his eyelashes cast long shadows on his cheeks. He glanced down, making the shadows dance across his face. I couldn't help myself; with a gasp my hands found themselves intertwined behind his neck and I pulled his mouth back to mine. His eyes flashed up to meet mine before they closed and his hands found their way to my waist.

I didn't even realize we were moving until I felt the edge of his chair hit the back of my legs and we toppled down, ricocheting off of the armrest and landing hard on the floor. We took one look at each other and burst out laughing. He crawled over to sit by me and brushed my hair over my shoulder. "Are you ok? You fell pretty hard there."

I smirked and turned to look at him, drawing my knees up in front of me. "Oh I'm fine. I could ask you the same thing. You fell on your butt pretty hard there."

"It smarts a little, but I'll survive."

"Are you sure?"

"I'm pretty sure. Want to check?"

I burst out laughing as he bent over jokingly. He joined and stood up, offering me a hand. I took his hand and he pulled me up. I stumbled into Edward and he caught me, his hands on my waist to steady me. I looked up into his eyes and our faces angled toward each other. Just before our lips brushed he smiled and said, "Try to behave this time."

I tried to keep that in mind, but as soon as his lips touched mine it was like a fire inside of me. My hands traced their way up his arms and around his shoulders. His heart was beating frantically in his chest. His hands slid down my spine, making me shudder and sigh. He broke away, gasping, "I swear, Bella. You're going to be the death of me!"

I leaned over, bracing my hands on my knees, taking gasping breaths that matched his to clear my head. "You're one to talk."

We took a few minutes to catch out breath and clear our heads before he offered me a smile. "I should probably get you home."

"That's probably a good idea! What time is it anyways?"

He checked his watch. "It's almost six o'clock."

"Oh man, that's a lot later than I thought…"

He laughed and said, "I guess time flies when you're having fun."

"I guess we better get this makeup off and head home. Let's go." I punctuated what I said with a flirty smile.

I grabbed two makeup wipes from my package in the bathroom and brushed my makeup back into my carrying back. I looked back at Edward, and he looked much more normal now without the makeup. He threw his wipe away and grinned at me before saying, "I'll race you to the car."

I answered with a grin that matched his, and we were scrambling through the door a second later.

A/N: I've had a bit of free time around the holiday here. Most of my family is working so we're having our Christmas celebration late. I've tried to be productive and write a little bit, so enjoy! Also, don't forget to check back and look at the rewrites of my beginning chapters (I'm changing them to match my writing style now)! Let me know what you think!
