Just thought I'd put this up here. This chapter finally shows some characteristics of the parents of the trio. If you don't remember who is who (I wouldn't blame you), all of their descriptions , as well as the trio, are updated in my profile page.
Also, if it was unclear, the houses are modeled the same way as in the TV show.
-Flamesworth Residence-
"History is so boring!"
Ryan's head dropped on his history textbook. He was in the middle of doing his homework in his room, along with his friends who were attempting to do theirs, although not acting as frustrated as the blue dragon.
"Calm down, its not that frustrating. Just look for the answers in the book, you don't have to read it all." Max said.
"Really! I've been reading all 20 pages this whole time." Crystal said, digging her head out of the book.
-Meanwhile-
The Flamesworth living room acted as a social gathering place for the six parents. They were all sitting around a table in the center of the white walled room. The TV was on and put on a random channel, but the adults were too busy chatting away to take notice of it.
"It was so nice of you guys to come over. We never really have time to talk these days with all the planning of the shops and the recent events." said Brad.
"Well, it's hard nowadays, especially with the fact that our children never seem to stop getting into trouble." said Mary.
"Speaking of children, where's your daughter? I haven't seen her in a while." Grace asked.
"Oh, Linda? She's sleeping over at the Watterson's house. I swear, ever since we moved here, she just loves spending time with that little bunny. She finally has someone to watch that show with." Fred answered.
"Well, that's one less child to worry about now." Vanessa replied, causing the Flent's to give a slight chuckle.
"You seem oddly ok about this Mary. Usually you'd be worried right now." Lloyd said.
"Yeah, I don't think any of us will forget that time when you had a panic attack over Max coming home 5 minutes late after school back in Laless." Brad said.
"I guess I learned to be a little less protective of my children." Mary replied.
"I say that's an improvement. With a son like that, your going to have to get used to it." Grace said.
This prompted Mary's face to change suddenly.
"What do you mean by 'a son like that'?" Mary asked.
"Well, you have to admit that he can be a loose cannon. Remember what happened in the school. Your son injured a student." Grace answered.
"I'll have you know that my son is not a loose cannon!" Mary snapped, her face showing a distinct face of anger. Fred gave a shocked look that quickly turned into a scolding stare.
"How dare you say that about our son! What position are you in to say that you Iceberg!" Fred stated, leading to a sudden gasp from the Flamesworths.
"Hey! Don't you dare talk to Grace like that!" Lloyd yelled as he sprang from his chair.
"Guys, calm down, this can all be settled." Vanessa said, attempting to stop the sudden scene.
"Settled? After what they said about my son! You act like you have the perfect child. I mean it's not like she nearly killed a girl!" Mary retorted.
"You should watch your mouth!" Lloyd said as he scolded Mary.
"What are you going to do about it!" Fred yelled back as he got up out of his chair and stood face to face with Lloyd.
"ENOUGH!" Brad said as he stood up and separated the two.
The sudden yell prompted the mothers to stand up quickly, knocking over some chairs in the process.
The loud yell also caught the attention of the three in Ryan's room who had just finished their homework. Frightened and startled, they began to make their way to the living room, their footsteps catching the attention of the adults. They appeared in the silent room.
"What happened?" Crystal asked, being the first to break the silence..
"Nothing sweetie. Grab your things, we are leaving." Lloyd said in a stern voice, as he and Grace began to walk to the door.
"Really? We were just about to…" Crystal began.
"We are leaving! And from now on, whenever you say we, you better not include that red ghost right there. You are never allowed to speak to him again!" He firmly stated, his finger pointing at Max.
"What did I do?" Max asked suddenly.
Lloyd just passed by him, along with Grace. Crystal, defeated, quickly made her way to Ryan's room, got her things, and immediately followed in their footsteps as they made their way out the door.
"Max, we're leaving too. Come on." Mary said as she and Fred also made their way to the door. After the yelling he heard, Max decided not to question his mother and followed his parents out the house.
The Layton's made their way to their house that was to the right of the Flamesworth's, while the Flent's went the opposite way to their house which was to the left. Max looked behind himself to see Crystal, who, like him, was also baffled at what just happened.
Ryan was left with his parents in the living room. Ryan was about to ask what had happened when the TV caught their attention.
A big logo appeared on it as a very enthusiastic voice yelled out
"Welcome to the Family Feud!"
-Layton Residence, evening-
Crystal was laying down on her bed, contemplating the whole speech she just received from her father. She played the conversation in her head like a movie, rewinding and fast forwarding certain parts.
"What happened back there? What did Max do?" Crystal had asked her father.
They had told her what happened in the house.
"Mom, why did you say that?" Crystal had asked.
"I only said what I thought was true. He can be a loose cannon." Her mother had replied.
"But what you said was mean. You got them angry!" Crystal had responded.
"Don't talk to your mother like that! That's it! No more discussion." Her father stated.
"But…"
"No more discussion! You are going to go to your room and go to sleep, you have school tomorrow. And if I hear that you were talking at all to that.. that… that Flent, then you will wish you hadn't!" Her father stated.
And there she was, on her bed, not allowed to be with one of her friends.
Over a petty argument.
-The next day at school-
Max sat at the lunch table. He thought to himself about the events from the previous day. How he was apparently insulted, but yet his father just had to make it worse by calling people names. He didn't really mind about what Miss Layton had said about him. If anything, he thought that the description of a loose cannon had fit him well.
Yet, his parents felt insulted, and now he's not allowed to talk to Crystal.
During his contemplation, Ryan had came and sat at the table.
"Hey buddy, what's going on?" Ryan asked.
Max, snapping out of his contemplation, explained what had happened.
"Really, that's what this is all about?" Ryan asked.
"Yep, and now I'm not allowed to speak with her." Max said.
"Well, your parents aren't here, how are they going to know that you talk with her?"
"That's what I had just been thinking. I know it may seem fine, but remember what had happened when my parents found out that I pranked that llama girl back in Laless. We still don't know how they found out. "
"Well, there is the fact that your parents are ghosts that can turn invisible." Ryan said matter of factly.
"Yeah, well I would of sensed them, and I clearly remembered that I didn't back then. You wouldn't understand, it's a ghost thing."
"That's what you say about everything."
"Oh really? Fine, name something that I wouldn't understand that only dragons could."
"Eh…, fire?"
"Whatever. Either way, the same thing happened with Crystal when she got angry at that apple kid and nearly squashed him into applesauce with that dodge ball in gym. The school never told her parents, yet they found out. Weird huh?"
"I guess so. Hey speaking of weird, what happened to your sister, I haven't seen her in a while."
"Oh, she's sleeping over at Gumball's house with Anais. As a matter of fact, she should of came home today. Huh."
Before Max could think about this any further, Crystal passed by behind him and threw a rolled up paper ball at him. However, it passed right through Max and hit Ryan on the nose.
"Ow! What was that for!?" Ryan said, but noticed that Crystal didn't hear him.
Max snatched the paper ball and began to unfold it. He flattened it out on the table and read it to himself.
"Oh, it was a note. What's it say?" Ryan asked.
Max looked up at Ryan and gave a sly grin.
"Ryan, do you mind if I can borrow something?"
-5 minutes later-
Crystal was standing in the hallway next to her locker. She waited there for some time.
"Hey Crystal."
She turned around and saw Gumball, not the person she was expecting.
"Eh… hey Gumball. What do you want?"
"Well, I was wondering if you knew where Max is, I have something very important to tell him." He said.
"Nope, haven't seen him."
"Oh, well thanks anyway. If you see him, let me know. See ya." He said as he walked away.
She nodded her head, and continued to wait.
After a minute or so, she finally saw Ryan make his way towards her.
"Hey Ryan, how's a going?" She asked.
"Fine, now why am I doing this?" He replied in a different but familiar voice.
"Don't you remember how our parents found out about stuff that happened in Laless without being told? Just pretend we're having a normal conversation, I'm not sure if we're being watched somehow."
"Who would watch us?"
"Exactly."
"Well you better hurry up, Ryan doesn't like this at all."
"Well, I've got a plan that's going to fix this."
Crystal began whispering into his ear.
"Alright, I'll be there." He said as he began to walk away.
Crystal looked around to make sure nobody was watching. She sort of felt bad for Ryan. Hopefully he would forgive her.
Part 1 of a two parter. Took me awhile to write this, but it was worth it.
