10- Confusion

Pan hummed to herself as she got dressed for the day before heading down the stairs. She was surprised that she had even fallen asleep, though her droopy eyes had told her that she hadn't slept too long. It wasn't her fault though, her heart had barely slowed down since Trunks had kissed her.

Trunks had kissed her!

Just thinking about it made her cheeks warm and her heart skip a beat. She touched her lips gently as she walked into the kitchen. She wondered if they could kiss again today? Or maybe she was thinking too hopefully? She hadn't imagined what took place last night, right?

Suddenly, she heard heavy footsteps rushing down the stairs and she glanced up just in time to see a glimpse of Trunks as he buttoned up the tight fitting navy blue shirt he had on. He was talking on the phone to someone.

"Yes, I know," he huffed, obviously annoyed. "Mom, I know!"

Pan blinked, she had forgotten that her grandparents and Bulma and Vegeta had arrived back yesterday. She figured Bulma was back at work today too.

"I just slept in, can you stop yelling at me?" He shot back, "I finished all the paper work from Creu Creations a few days ago, they should be on your desk."

Pan decided to open up the refrigerator to peer inside of it as to not be nosy, but she couldn't help but listen.

"Yeah, I know," Trunks grumbled. "I'll be there soon," he said before she assumed he had hung up the phone.

Pan could hear him nearing the kitchen and turned just as he entered. Their eyes met, and she couldn't help but get butterflies. She saw Trunks swallow hard.

"Panna," he breathed her name. Everything that had happened the night before came back to him, of course it had never really left his mind. He barely got any sleep, replaying the kiss over and over again.

"About last night..." he began. What about it exactly though? He swallowed hard, licking his bottom lip nervously, and he was aware of how her eyes followed the movement. "I'm, um..." he shook his head slowly. "I'm sorry...?" He raised a lavender eyebrow.

He saw the way her eyes widened and he cursed mentally. That didn't sound right at all! It had came out all wrong! How could he tell her that he was sorry for going s little too far, but he wasn't sorry for kissing her? Or maybe the kiss itself was too far?

His phone began to ring and he picked it up to glance at the caller in annoyance. It was his mother- again! It was her first day back and she was already driving him nuts! Of course it didn't help that he was running late to an important business meeting, but when you stay up half the night thinking about a girl it's hard to get sleep.

"Listen, I'm..." Trunks glanced back up at Pan as she slowly shut the refrigerator's door. He let out a long sigh.

"It's okay," her soft voice cut him off. He glanced up at her in confusion, and he could see her dark black eyes looking so blank. "I understand..." she nodded slowly.

Trunks didn't know what to say as his phone continued to ring...and ring...and ring... That was his mother for you. She would call until you answered.

"Panna-"

"You better answer that," her voice told him quietly, motioning to his phone with her head. "Bulma-san didn't seem to happy."

He sighed quietly, "I'll see you when I get home," he told her before answering his phone. The faster he got the meeting over with, the faster he could get back home properly explain things to Pan.

Pan waited until the door was shut before the tears pooled from her eyes. Her leg jiggled as she sniffed, letting the tears roll down her cheeks. She really shouldn't had let her hopes get to high. She should have expected this. Trunks was man, and she was still a kid compared to him. Why would he want to waste his time with her?

The kiss they shared?

Probably just a accident that happened on his account. He wouldn't think much of it, but her... It would consume her.

How long had she dreamed of kissing Trunks? For years, and years. And now that it finally happened, it was just a mistake on his part.

Pan clinched her teeth to stop the sob as she shook her head and raised her hands to finally wipe her eyes. Maybe her and Trunks just weren't meant to be. Even if they couldn't be in a relationship, she wanted to at least be his friend. She supposed the only way to do that was to try to move on... But moving on from Trunks Brief would be harder said than done.

Trunks wasn't paying attention- at all. His mother and the other board members were talking miles per minute, but he couldn't concentrate on a single word they said. His eyebrows furrowed together as he glared at the table. All he could think about was Pan's face before he left. That blank expression.

What was she thinking? Did she know what he would have said? No... right? If she had known, she wouldn't have looked so expressionless, right? He thought harder, trying to remember. Her beautiful, beautiful lips formed a thin line across her mouth. And then he was sure he saw her eyes looking rather glassy. Glassy...? Water...? His eyes widened. Was that tears? Did she cry after he left?

His heart dropped at the thought. No... That was the furtherest thing that he had wanted to happen!

As the meeting came to a close, Trunks glanced at his watch with a frown. It had taken a whole hour and a half. He picked up his folder quickly, hoping to quickly take it to his office before disappearing back to his house. He had to set things straight with Pan.

"Trunks..."

He almost groaned when his mother called his name. He glanced back, giving her a small frown. "Yes?"

"What is going on with you?" Bulma raised a blue eyebrow. "You barely put in any input today, and that's unlike you," she crossed her arms.

Trunks let out a heavy sigh. No way could he tell her what had happened. "Panna is sick," he lied quickly. "And I'm just worried about her."

Bulma' eyes widened as she let out a small gasp. Trunks knew it would work; his mother had a soft spot for Pan. "Is she okay? Do you want me to get her anything?"

"No," he shook his head, praying his mother wouldn't make a little trip by his house. "I'm just going to go home and make sure she's doing okay. Gohan and Videl should be picking her up later this evening."

"Ah, okay," Bulma nodded. "Tell her to get well soon for me."

Trunks nodded before walking to his office as quickly as he could. As soon as everything was in place, he didn't even bother to go to the parking garage. He opened his window and flew straight out of the window- it would be quicker than driving anyways.

Pan grumbled as she looked at her reflection in the guest bathroom mirror. After having a good cry and a long session of sniffs, she forced herself up so she could tend to her face. It was puffy, with red rings surrounding her eyes.

She hoped to try to get rid of the puffiness before Trunks came back. She wanted to at least try to act as normal as possible around him.

Suddenly, she heard the front door open. "Panna?!"

Her eyes widened, and she didn't have time to think of her appearance as she rushed out of the bathroom and headed down the stairs. That was Trunks' voice! What was he doing back so early?

"Trunks?" She asked, her voice a little hoarse from crying.

Trunks' eyes widened, his heart dropping. She had been crying, and it was his fault. "Panna..." he whispered.

"Is everything okay?" She asked worriedly, noticing the troubled look on his face.

"No," he shook his head as he walked over to her quickly. He grabbed her face, causing her eyes to widened in confusion. "I made you cry, and that was the last thing I was trying to do..." he told her softly before he leaned down and kissed her like she was the most beautiful girl in the world.
