"You're what?!" Elsa shrieked.
"I'm s—sorry. I have to go. She's coming." Anna replied.
"N—no. No, Anna wait—"
There was a click and then the dial tone. Elsa screamed in anguish and threw her phone across the room, blinking in confusion when she didn't hear it hit the floor. She walked over to it and saw that it had landed on Bob, the walrus Anna had given her. She knelt down and picked the walrus up, hugging it to her body. Kristoff walked up beside her and placed a hand on her shoulder.
"Els?"
"No." She whimpered.
"Elsa, what happened?" He asked gently.
"They're moving and, knowing Melanie, it'll probably be far away. Kristoff, what am I going to do?" She sounded so broken and Kristoff desperately wanted to help her but he was at a loss of what to do or say. She broke down in tears, making Kristoff's heart drop low in his chest. "I'm losing her. Forever."
Anna was sitting on a box, feet dangling inches from the ground and arms wrapped around her middle, as she watched the movers load their things onto the moving van. Her stomach lurched and she wished for Olaf but she hadn't seen him since she had asked Melanie to sew him back together. Sven, who had come to help out with the move, walked over to her and silently slid his hands under her arms. He lifted her up and she wound her arms around his neck. Anna didn't even care about the weird looks they were getting from a few of the workers, she didn't care about how vulnerable and weak she looked or how silly it was for a girl her age to be held; the much needed comfort overpowered any feeling of embarrassment or shame, although she wished for a different person to be holding her right now. After a few seconds, Sven set her on her feet and the workers came to take away the boxes she had previously used as a seat. She felt like she was going to be sick and she buried her face in her cousin's shirt. He rubbed her back soothingly before he recalled something.
"Hey Anna, can you help me with a box inside?" Anna looked up at him and nodded. Sven draped an arm around her shoulders and led her into the house. "It's this one right here." He pointed to a box situated on top of another one. She helped him pick it up and all of her sadness was instantly changed.
"Elsa!" Anna dropped her end of the box and all but ran into her sister's arms.
"Oh, my little angel." Elsa crooned before kissing Anna all over her face, ending with a kiss to the tip of her nose. The younger girl giggled, refusing to even let go of Elsa for a second, fearing that her big sister would disappear if she did. Sven smiled at the sight before leaving, wanting to give them some space even though the movers walking in and out of the house prevented any sense of privacy.
"I love you Elsa. I just wanted you to know that." The strawberry blonde said as she grinned up at her sister.
"And I want you to know that I love you, too. More than anything."
Anna giggled. "I already know that you love me."
"Well, I'm glad. Don't you ever forget it," The younger girl nodded her head vigorously, "So, do you know where you're moving?"
Anna's grin faded away at the reminder of the move. "I — I don't know. Aunt Melanie wouldn't tell me where we were going because she knew that I would tell you." Anna sniffled and wiped away the tears in her eyes. She promised herself she wouldn't cry because she knew it would upset Elsa if she did.
The blonde pulled at her hair, knowing very well that this may be the last time she would ever see Anna again. "No, this wasn't supposed to happen. I was about to call a lawyer. I was going to win your custody. You were supposed to come live with me. You were supposed to have a happy life."
Anna placed a hand on her sister's shoulder. "It's okay Elsa. I know you're going to find a way. I know you haven't given up. It's going to be alright."
Elsa almost broke down then and there. How was she going to tell Anna that she didn't have a plan? How was she supposed to tell her she didn't know what to do or that there was no way she could win? How was she supposed to let Anna know that she had given up?
Anna watched on tearfully as the last of the boxes were taken out of the house, making her grip on Elsa tighten that much more. "Elsa..." She whimpered, laying her head on the blonde's chest and listening to her sister's heartbeat. It always soothed her, for some reason.
"Anna!" Melanie called, walking inside the empty house. "Come on, it's time to go."
Anna shook her head. "I'm riding with Sven."
Melanie sighed and diverted her attention to Elsa. "What are you doing here?"
The platinum blonde lowered her eyelids. "You really think I wouldn't come to say goodbye?"
The older woman shook her head, exasperated, and exited the house with Anna and Elsa following behind her.
"Look, Elsa, I know you wanted me to stay in the car until you called for me, but those songs were starting to get annoying and I couldn't figure out how to change the station." Kristoff said as he approached the two girls.
"Kristoff!" Anna embraced him quickly before moving back into Elsa's arms. "Why are you here? N—not that it's a bad thing."
The young man chuckled. "I just wanted to say goodbye, kid. Rapunzel and Merida wanted to come, but they couldn't make it."
"Can you tell them that I'll miss them? And that they were great friends?"
Kristoff nodded. "Sure kid."
At that moment, Sven walked over to the trio. "Whoa, Kristoff?!"
"Sven? I never thought I'd see you again!"
"Wait, you two know each other?" Elsa asked, instinctively running her hand up and down Anna's back after the redhead whimpered.
"Yeah, we went to college together." Sven said.
"Remember we became friends over our love of reindeer?" Kristoff asked.
Both men laughed before Sven looked at Anna. "Hey, squirt, we have to go. Everyone's waiting on us."
Anna shook her head and buried her face in Elsa's chest, the dam of tears finally breaking and wetting the front of her sister's shirt. The older girl laid her cheek on Anna's head and squeezed her eyes shut, tears escaping her own eyes. "It's okay, Anna. Everything's going to be okay, angel."
The redhead shook her head. "I don't wanna go. Please, don't make me go. I wanna stay with you, ple—ee—ase."
The two guys watched on with sorrow. "Anna we—we have to go."
Elsa leaned down and kissed the crown Anna's head, one last time, before she let Sven pull Anna away.
"NO!" Anna screamed at the top of her lungs, tears flowing down her cheeks. "Nooo! Elsa please! Don't let them take me away! Elsaaaa!"
Elsa turned away and hid her face in Kristoff's shirt, unable to bear her sister's heartbreaking screams any longer, while Anna sobbed into Sven's chest.
Melanie saw the whole exchange and got into her car, wondering if she was doing the right thing.
Elsa's knees buckled and she would've fallen to the ground if it weren't for Kristoff's grip keeping her steady, as Anna drove out of her life.
Two months later...
"Look, mom, I know you don't like Elsa, but she's Anna's last chance. She's the only one that can get her to eat."
Melanie growled but took the phone from Sven's hand. "What's her number?"
"It's already in there you just have to press call."
Melanie sighed and cast one last glance at her son before hitting 'call'.
Elsa picked up after the second ring. "Hello?"
"Hello, Ms. Anderson."
"Melanie?!"
"Yes, yes, it's me. Don't act so surprised."
"Well, it's just that you're the last person I'd ever expect to receive a call from. To what do I owe this pleasant surprise?"
The woman petulantly rolled her eyes at the sarcastic tone of Elsa's voice. "Look, Anna had a severe allergic reaction to cashews and now she's in the hospital. She—"
"You gave her cashews?! How did you not know she was allergic to them?!"
"She never mentioned it."
"She never told me either but at least I took the time to watch what she ate and how she reacted to it. I didn't even let her consume any kind of nut when she kept scratching her hand after just touching a cashew."
"Okay, okay, with all blame aside, I was calling to tell you that Anna's still currently in the hospital. She healed nicely after her allergic reaction but now she won't eat anything. The nurses and doctors assume it's because she's afraid of having another allergic reaction but I know it's her way of defying me. It's her way of getting what she wants and what she wants right now is for you to come to her."
"I can't because I have no idea where you took her!"
Melanie could tell the young woman was trying to conceal her anger, but she wasn't doing a good job. "Just come. I'll have Sven text you the address."
"You better not send me a phony address and have me going all the way across the world."
"That's why I said Sven would text you the address. You trust him, don't you?"
"As long as it's not you."
The older woman shook her head and gave the phone back to her eldest. "Bye Elsa." Sven said before ending the call.
Melanie sighed and walked back into the hospital room Anna was currently staying in.
"Is she coming?" The redhead asked excitedly as her aunt sat in the chair next to the bed. She had missed her sister dearly the past two months and was eager at just the thought of seeing her again.
Melanie smiled sadly before answering, "Yes, she is."
Anna cheered. "Do you know when she's going to be here?"
"No," She stroked the strawberry blonde's cheek and Anna leaned into the touch, "Sleep, baby girl, you need to rest." Anna nodded and laid down, pulling the sheets up to her chin.
"I love you." The older woman said, voice rich with affection.
"I love you too, Aunt Melanie." Anna replied sincerely. After all, it was Melanie who rescued her from that hellhole. "And I love Elsa, also."
As she watched her niece fall asleep, only one thought crossed Melanie's mind.
What have I done?
When Elsa heard a click, meaning the call was over, realization struck her like a freight train.
Hopsital. Anna was in the hospital!
How could she let her anger come before the concern for her sister's health. She was in the hospital and all she could think about was arguing with Melanie. Ashamed of her actions but still determined, Elsa ran to her room and started packing her bag.
The past two months had been brutal for Elsa. Before the move, she at least got to see Anna once a month but now she didn't even have that to look forward to and it was hard to cope. She was very depressed and often found herself thinking and worrying about Anna.
The blonde didn't know how long she was going to be there, but, no matter how long it would take, she wasn't going to leave without her baby sister.
Man, I'm really bad at writing sad stuff.
So, I worked on this chapter everyday for the past sixteen days but I still had an extremely hard time writing this chapter and, as a result, I'm not really happy with it but...oh well. I had to write it to progress the story. Only a few more chapters to go!
Who else is excited for Frozen Fever? No, seriously. I can't wait! And did you see their family portrait?! Let's just say, it's the winner for the most adorable family portrait in the history of family portraits! Anna's so adorkable in it. In the best way though!
Anyway, until next time...yeah...
