Ch 10: Following the path of doom
It was a bright morning as the sun rose on the horizon signaling another day of search for Sora and his company.
After a deep yawn and comforting stretches from a long sleep, they set up again to proceed seeking for a hidden cave which is the place known to where the fairy lives.
"Wake up!!!"
Goofy and Sora freaked out from the Donald's sudden action when being the only person awake to have difficulty waking the others up.
"I've been waking you two up for the past 30 minutes and you sleepy heads keep on slumbering like there's no tommorrow!" Donald babbled on while Sora and Goofy continued to yawn and try to fight against their sleepy, eeky eyes.
"What are we gonna do again?" ask Goofy while ignoring (and not even caring) Donald's useless, on going prattle: "I've always been the one doing all the work and all the junk that you guys should be..."
"Um..." Sora innocentely began, "I think we need to carry forward now to search again for the fairy."
Donald resume his babbling while Sora and Goofy starts the fairy hunt, leaving him alone and talking to himself.
"...I know we are all having a hard time looking for the fairy, especially you, Sora, but how about me? always being the one to catch all the hard stuff. So, by now I'm not going to do anything but sit, do you anderstand me?!" He turned around to see them listening, but only found them about 10 yards away.
"Quack!" and he began to chase after them.
-0000000000000000-
Mean while, the sound of the forces of crashing waves is heard around the waterfall as a white figure appeared to be sitting by the clear water and playing it with her pale, white fingers.
Her face unreadable, but the view of a tear by her right eye is clearly shown to be glithering as it made its way down towards the end of her chin and is swallowed by the water beneath her.
-0000000000000000-
"Come on, Donald, I said 'we're sorry,' ok?" Sora whined, "Now is that enough for you not to be mad at us anymore?"
"Hmmp," Donald significantly ignored them while walking angrily in front of them with arms crossed.
"Gwarsh, Donald, we didn't mean to leave ya alone," Goofy said, "we were half asleep to even know what we're doin' so, sorry."
"Goofy's right, Donald," Sora agreed, "now what do you say, friends?"
They waited for his respond until Sora saw a cave not too far away from them. He's eyes widened and mouth slowly open. His thought about this cave made him anxious, thinking that this cave is the CAVE they've been searching for that bear the most important person that would help them out from this unmercyful quest.
"Ha," He couldn't believe what he's just seeing right now with his own two eyes.
Then, without leaving his gaze to the hidden cave, he elbowled Goofy beside him and pointed his finger at what he's looking at.
At first, Goofy was confuse at Sora's reaction until he followed his finger to where his pointing at and began to have the same reaction as he is from the sight.
They couldn't set their minds straight and started walking towards the cave, leaving Donald alone again on his back.
"Well," Donald finally responded, thinking that they were still there with him, "I know that you guys didn't mean to leave me, and I can't just stay mad at the two of you forever, so I have no choice but to except your--"
He turned around only to find them gone and far away to even hear him speak.
"...apology," he finished.
"Quack! wait up!" and there he goes again to catch up with them.
After a few seconds of running, Donald bump onto their backs considering how they suddently stop.
Donald shake his head to recover a bit from his encounter with them, and became confuse of why they didn't noticed him bumped into them.
He glance up on what Sora and Goofy have their eyes locked on, and became astonished at what he's just seeing right now, forgeting his anger towards Sora and Goofy.
"Can I help you?" a sweet yet gentle voice said which actually startled the three.
They jumped back from the unexpected speech that just appeared out of the air, and followed it's sound to there back preparing to fight the intruder.
At the same time, it was a surprise to them at how appealing what they think is their enemy is; wearing a white dress and all. And also, was relief to find it to be only a girl about the same as Sora's age whom is holding a drawing pad along with a sharpened pencil standing before them. (Weird, huh?)
"I said, 'can I help you?'" she repeated.
They flinched a bit from her words, but showed they are not afraid of her in any way.
"Well, um-uh," Sora began. "We were hoping if you know someone living here?" he said, stating the cave.
"You're looking for me, am I right?" she questioned back.
"Are you saying that you're the fairy that lives--" Donald tried to say, but was only cut off when Sora covered his mouth, not wanting to spread the secret about the fairy to any unknown people, like her.
"Yes, I am the fairy that lives there," she answered, understanding what Donald's trying to say, "and I can tell that you needed me for a quest."
Sora, Donald, and Goofy were shocked at how she knows about the reason for them to be there.
Then, the so-called 'fairy' motionlessly walk pass them towards the cave while the three stared at her out of suspicion and curiosity, and being prepered to what ever she would do unexpectedly.
"Please, come inside," she said.
With a bit of hesitation, they slowly did what she instructed and followed her to wherever she's leading them.
Soon, they reached the 'dining room' where she again instructed them to sit down on one of the rocks, used as chairs, that surrounds the 'table.'
After they got seated, silence quickly came in the atmosphere and tension build up in Sora and his friends.
"I'm Namine," she said.
"Oh, um uh, I'm--" Sora awkwardly tried to say.
"You're Sora," Namine said before him, "and you're friends here are Donald and Goofy."
"Quack!"
"Gwarsh."
"Huh?"
They couldn't hardly believe what she's doing, but how she had 'guessed' their names correctly without even one single clue, shocked them to the bone.
"Wha--ha-how did--" Sora said, trying to find what right word to say.
"I have the ability to predict a situation or some facts of a person, but not everything," she said.
"Oh..." Donald and Goofy said, now knowing something about her.
Sora sat queitly, then ask, "Do you know Roxas?"
As soon as Namine heard that familiar name that just came out of Sora's unworthy mouth, she began to stay silent.
Soon, her silence worried everybody as they all stared at her, concerned.
"Um, did I said something wrong?" Sora questioned according from the behavior Namine is now showing.
"No," she answered in a clear tone. Then, she took a deep breath as she decided to explain what's going on with her which is taking out all the courage she had, "Roxas. I first saw him by the waterfall, wounded and unconcious. I took him here to treat his wounds, and that's how I met him. He woke up, finding himself here...with me. At first, I noticed his suspicions towards me, just like the three of you. So, I introduced myself as the fairy you two had been looking for, Sora. Then, he remembered about you, and got eager to save you from the heartlesses and nobodies you've experienced to fight with before."
"Ha," Donald and Goofy reacted after hearing the name of their number one rivals.
Namine continued, "Because of his condition, I refuse to let him go. By then, he told me what happened to both of you and you're purpose of being here; you're quest. So, I explained to him what I know about the heartlesses and nobodies. And also, I told him whom I believe is responsible for taking Kairi."
"Kairi!" Sora said.
Namine acknowledge his feelings for her, but proceeded, "I let him stay here for a few days until he is well enough to go. But...during those few days I had with him, I began to have feelings for him, even though...even though I'm not suppose to feel emotions, I did. Because of him..."
Namine pause for a while to regain her self-esteem and went on, "After he's recovered, he decided to continue on what he left. It was hard for me to let him go, now that he has my heart. But, I don't have any right to interfere with his decisions."
She ended her story with a slight sigh while the others just stood quiet with nothing to say to help her.
"Wow..." Sora finally commented.
Everyone look at him knowing he's gonna say something.
"I never knew what happened to Roxas not until now. And I couldn't believe he would fall for you," he said.
"Sora," Donald whispered at him saying that he just said something that would deffinitely worsten things out.
Sora understand what Donald is trying to say to him and quickly tried to correct his mistakes, "I-It's not as if you and Roxas aren't meant together or anything, what I mean is that, I never saw Roxas fall in love with any girls before. If you ask me, many girls drool over him. he he. But they all just failed to capture his heart." he pause for a while to position himself to lean back making him look at the ceiling and putting his hands behind his head. Then, he resume, "But...what I was trying to say is that, it's hardly for him to fall in love. But, from what you told us, It seemed as if it's obvious he have the same feelings for you too."
Namine stared at him.
"Namine, you're different than any other girls out there, but in a good way. You're like Kairi; easy to love. Which is why I think--I mean, 'I BELIEVE' that Roxas loves you too. You took care of him when he needed you...am I right?" Sora said and glance at her for an answer.
Namine almost cried out, but she formed a smile on her face and stared at him deeply. "You're right. Thankyou," she replied.
After Sora knows that she's better now, he changes the subject: "So, you told us that you kind of know who kidnapped Kairi, right? can you tell us where he is?"
"From what I know, he lives in a castle called, 'Casle Oblivion' located beyond the Mountains of darkness which is just north from here. The way you go there is to follow the river which starts at the waterfall. It will lead you to a large bay in which you have to cross over using a small boat you will see by the shore. After that, you have to follow the star that shines even in the daylight, and that will lead you to your destination."
"Ok," Sora replied with full of courage and began to walk off. But then stop to hear Namine's last words.
"But wait," she said, "beware of the creatures that will pass your way, including different types of heartlesses and nobodies. And also, along with the large bay, you will find sirens or mermaides that lives there. Remember: not all of the sea creatures are evil, but just be carefull."
Sora became uneasy when she talked about the obstacles he might face during his journey, but he nodded anyway.
The trio then went off.
After the cave was out of sight, they halted and began to say their last goodbyes.
"Donald, Goofy. You guys, it's been great to be with you, but I guess this would be a great time to say good bye," Sora declared.
Both of them rised an eye brow to Sora, not knowing what he's talking about, but then realized what he meant.
"You're king only said that you can go with me only to find the fairy," Sora said while Donald and Goofy stayed silent, "He didn't told you to come with me any further to find Kairi."
"So, you're gonna travel alone?" Goofy said.
"Are you gonna be OK?" ask Donald.
"Of course," Sora respond with his goofy smile, "I will be back from my trip in no time, so don't worry. Remember; no sad faces, ok?"
They both nodded and said their good byes.
As the two animals walked away leaving him, Sora's face dropped into a sad emotion and then, turned around the other way close to where many dangers lay.
Towards the path of doom.
Author's Note: I know, I left out a cliff hanger; Donald and Goofy leaving Sora, and also, I didn't really include that much romance in this chapter too. So I'm sorry for those of you who are expecting some LOVE here. But to warn those who are a Sormine fan, this is not a SoraXNamine moment, ok? they only talked about some random stuff, so don't even think about any wrong ideas. (even though I'm quite a Sormine fan before.) I had many other things I wanted to put here, but I decided to just put it into another chapter, so you have to wait for it. (I'm really not use on writing way too long chapters.)
