JacobPOV:
I felt like I was in a dream everything seemed wrong. It was like I was moving in slow motion compared to everyone else. I just couldn't make myself move. The only thing I could do was focus on the lifeless body of the girl, who hours before had been wrapped in my arms drinking my coffee. The others didn't seem to have any trouble moving. They all came running into Leah's room. Without hesitation Sam pushed passed me began CPR. The others were all screaming or maybe they were whispering I couldn't tell, everything was blurry, like I was watching the scene unfold behind a thick dirty glass wall.
I suppose someone must have called the ambulance because all of a sudden two men in blue outfits entered one starts hooking Leah up to all these machines, whilst the other gently but firmly pulls Sam back continues with the CPR.
It was then I felt arms pulling me backwards, I looked around it was Paul, he was saying something but I still couldn't make out the sounds I tried to shake my head to see if that helped.
"Jake you gotta let go of her hand. Jake step back come on you need to give them space."
I was confused I looked down at my hand and saw to my suprise it holding Leah's cold one I didn't even know I had walked up to her let alone grab her hand. I slowly opened my hand and watched Leah's flop lifelessly next to her body.
Then I helplessly watched as they ripped open her shirt and placed two pads over her chest, then like something out of a movie one called out, "Clear" and pressed the paddles onto the pads. Leah's body gave a jolt, as my heart leapt into my throat, but as one of them checked her over and shook his head I realised the jolt meant nothing. It seemed like eternity of watching the repeat the process and realising there nothing I can do to help before they finally stopped. For a split second i thought the machine hadn't worked and they were giving up until I noticed they had both breathed a sigh of relief.
Before anyone could stop me I reached out for Leah's hand and felt a pulse beating strong in her wrist. I let go of the breath I had unknowingly been holding. Calming down slightly I again stepped back and allowed the paramedics to continue working on Leah. After a few minutes and a few more machines attached to Leah's body she was loaded into the back of the ambulance. I glanced back at the boys. "Go! We'll follow" Embry called out. I nodded and then without asking or waiting for permission I climbed in with Leah.
By the time we got to the hospital, some of the shock had worn off now it was confusion, what could cause Leah to do this? This morning she was so happy, I paused was it really just a few hours ago that Leah was in the kitchen cooking us food and now, she's at the hospital after they had to re-start her heart. I just couldn't place those two images together. What happened whilst we were out?
Jumping out and rushing along next to the gurney holding Leah's hand, I wasn't paying any attention to where we were going or who was around. Until we arrived at a double door and unknown hands were pulling me away from Leah. I started to fight against them until I noticed the sign on the door read, Operating theatres, authorised personal only. As soon as I relinquished my grasp on her they had pushed her through the door and out of my sight.
I stumbled blindly to a seat and waited for what seemed like an age for someone, anyone to come back out that door and give me news, any news. I started thinking about Leah I honestly don't know what I would have done if I lost her today. The thought alone was so painful I just couldn't think about so I stopped thinking and just waited. I don't know how long I sat there before I had had enough. Right when I was about to jump up and hunt down a doctor an elderly man with 2 woman walk out.
The man walked straight up to me and stretches out his hand for me to shake, "Hi I'm doctor Hill. I've been working Leah, she consumed an inhuman amount of alcohol, we were lucky you found her when you did, I'm afraid if we waited any longer we wouldn't have been able to save her. She's had her stomach pumped and is resting. I'm sure you'd like to see her but we have some questions."
