"I get that, but don't worry. I'm sure there's some way to break the magic binding him. There's always a way." Mira's smile comforted the young blonde as she pressed her to lay down. Lucy complied silently, eyes already drifting shut.
"Mira, the reason I was even able to keep going so long is because I was using some of my life force." Lucy admitted, already half asleep. Mira made no move to react, though she knew that if Natsu found out, he'd be pissed.
When Lucy was better rested, she let Natsu out again, watching him sleep. His pink hair was still dirty, and she used a gentle hand to brush some of the dirt out of it. He didn't respond, but she was glad he would be okay. The soft rise and fall of his bandaged chest brought her to lean an ear down close, to listen to his heartbeat. He was warm and soon she found herself resting against him, stroking a hand through his hair. The peace of the moment and the calm of his face brought a small to her own. Mira turned from the doorway without detection. She had figured as much. She had only been trying forever to get them together when they really didn't need help. It was sweet, the image of Lucy smiling at the resting Natsu. It was something like from a dream, where the light beams in through the window and makes the girl look like someone heaven-sent to save the other. Mira sighed, shaking her head. She had work to do, and Natsu was in safe and capable hands.
"Lu?" The voice rolled from him unexpectedly as his eyes cracked open. "Where're we?"
"Back at the guild." Her voice was soft in reply as she kept resting on him. He didn't look like he objected to it, so she wasn't going to move.
"Did we get Happy back?"
"Yeah. We did."
"We just need to beat the bastard then and free the dragons and Igneel." Natsu let out a little growl as he thought of how the man was probably treating them. "I can't leave them with him."
"I know. You just need to rest more before we can go back." She snuggled into him and his face flushed lightly. She pretended she didn't see his, but her own did some as well before her arm came up to bury it from sight. His hand came up and rested on the back of her head, hugging her close to him. She looked up again to see his eyes were somewhat teary.
"Just promise me that if things get bad next time, you'll leave me and run to save yourself." She stared at him, not expecting that from the normally clueless slayer, but she nodded dumbly, sincerity in her eyes. A soft smile crossed his lips and he let his eyes drift shut again, letting him enjoy the calming lemony-vanilla scent of Lucy along with her caring presence. It couldn't be too bad to be hurt if he could spend time like this all the time. The sun warmed his face and he opened his eyes again to look at the table on the side where a glass of water resided.. He began to move to reach it, but Lucy jolted up and quickly got it for him, even going as far as to hold it to his lips. His eyes widened, but he drank the water, glad that his throat hurt less now with the soothing cold liquid. After he tipped it away from his lips, she set it back on the table.
"Okay, I promise." She finally answered his question, though she sounded sad, it was an honest answer.
"Good." He sighed. "Now how about some food. I'm hungrier than a starved elephant herd." It seemed that the moment was over, and Lucy laughed, standing up and crossing to the door.
"I'll be right back then with something for you to eat." She couldn't help the little flush that rose to her cheeks, thinking of how a wife would do that for her husband if he was bed-ridden. A head shake cleared the thoughts from her head and she gathered up some of his favorites, returning to the room. Natsu's eyes lit up at the site and he was already drooling by the time she set it all before him.
"Woah, thanks!" He barely waited to finish speaking before he began shoveling food into his mouth, splattering it every. Lucy let out a little sigh, flicking some off her cloths and retreating slightly to avoid any more of the mess.
It didn't take long for it to be annihilated, and Natsu leaned back, patting his stomach contentedly. He went about examining his bandages, letting out a sigh.
"If Happy were here, he'd tell me something stupid that makes no sense, and I'd laugh." Lucy leaned in the doorway.
"Something along the lines of me liking you, probably. Honestly though, you're too reckless." She chuckled slightly, crossing over to sit on the side of his bed.
"Maybe I have a reason to be reckless when protecting my friends."
"I knew you would say that." She patted his arm. "Well hey, what do you think about going in the next few days? We're going to travel mostly by foot, so you get time to rest up."
"Yeah! And you're going to buy me-"
"No, we're packing food."
"But-"
"No. We're a little short on money. I even checked at your place. If we pooled it all together, we'd have enough for a piece of string off a bread bag."
"Aww, but-"
"What did I just say?" She bopped him on the head, standing up to frown down at his pouting face. "We don't have enough money."
"Okay... Well, we'd best get some side jobs before we go after him then." She paused.
"Did you just say that we need to get some jobs before going after some major bad guy that has the dragons?" He blinked, somewhat confused.
"Yeah, something wrong with that?"
"Nope." Lucy shook her head, turning to leave. "Well you'd best rest up then. We're starting tomorrow."
"Slave driver!" He complained before she shut the door. On both sides of the door chuckles could be heard. Sometimes tension just couldn't stay for too long, and a little break in tension was good for healing any wounds.
