Nurses and doctors all came running into the room after hearing the gun shot, following closely by hospital security and HPD officers. There was commotion all around Danny as people tried to figure out what had happened. The nurse that had brought the cough syrup knelt down beside a clearly distraught Danny.

"It's ok, help is here. Can you tell me what happened?" she asked quietly, trying to gently move him away from his unmoving partner and the body of the dead criminal.

"I was…I…eh…I just was in the bathroom for a minute. I don't know." Trying to lean around the nurse to get another look at his partner, he whispered "Doc, is he ok? I don't know what he did to him."

By now he was shivering pretty badly but didn't know was it from the adrenaline dump, his hypothermia or the fear he felt for his best friend who was still not showing any signs of movement.

Dr. Thompson was kneeling beside the downed Commander, having taken his uninjured wrist to check his pulse, he hemmed. Then peeling open each eye, he hawed.

"Well his pulse is racing and his eyes don't seem to be focusing."

Taking out his stethoscope, the doctor proceeded listen to Steve's chest.

"Nurse, would you pass me the oxygen mask and turn it to two please."

She stood from her place beside Danny, "it's ok, I'll just going to get the mask and then I'll be right back," as Danny started to shake even more.

Having given the doctor the mask and grabbing a blanket from Danny's bed, she knelt down again beside him and wrapped the blanket around his shoulders.

Dr. Thompson, standing up called two hospital porters to take Steve for a scan. "I don't care if there is a queue a mile long down there, get him in next. I mean I was only keeping him in for observation. This kind of thing does not happen here," the doctor was saying. He was visible shaken by the whole thing.

Only minutes later a gurney, holding Steve disappeared out the door.

The nurse was still kneeling beside Danny trying to soothe him when Kono and Chin all but ran into the room.

On seeing Chi lying dead on the ground Kono spoke up, "What the hell happened here? Danny, are you alright? Where's Steve?"

Before Danny could answer his nurse interrupted, "We're just trying to piece together what happened here, but it would seem this man," looking down at the body on the floor, "tried to harm the Commander, who was being kept in for observation. Danny here, came out of the bathroom and found him being attacked and shot the attacker."

Looking confused the nurse wondered out loud, "But I'm not sure where he got the gun. Anyway when we all came in, the Commander was unconscious on the ground, the dead man was to the side of him and Danny was just over there."

Chin could see Danny was miles away and he needed to get him back to the here and now. Looking at the nurse he asked, "Can we maybe move Danny into another room? I think he needs to lie down."

"Yes of course, we'll bring him next door. It's another large room and the Commander can be brought back there too. He's been brought down for a scan."

"Ok Danny, nice and slowly. Up we stand," Chin said as he hooked his arms under Danny's arms and got him standing. A wheelchair appeared behind him and he sat back into it, with no argument at all. Kono was worried that he hadn't put up a fight.

The nurse accompanied them into the next room and helped get Danny settled into the bed.

"Unfortunately, we really can't give him anything to help him sleep. He took two large measure of Codinex about fifteen minutes ago and was to be settling down to sleep then but all this happened. Maybe once he gets comfortable he might drop to sleep himself."

Danny wanted to speak up and point out that he was right there but really had no energy and just slumped down into the pillows.

"Thank you for all you've done for him," Chin said politely.

Smiling the nurse said, "Danny, if you need anything at all just use the button and we'll be in straight away. Try to get some sleep, Steve is in good hands. He'll be fine and back up here in no time." Nodding to Kono and Chin she left, pulling the door behind her.

Danny turned away from them in the bed, pulling the blankets tight to himself and muttered something to himself.

Laying a hand on his shoulder Chin asked him what he had said.

Turning to face his team mates he rasped, "It's all my fault."

Kono stepped forward then and took his hand in hers. "You can't possibly believe that. You saved Steve, twice, today from that nut job Chi. If anyone is to be blamed for all that happened today, blame the corpse on the floor next door."

"But if I hadn't been "clocked" today none of this would have happened. I should have just stayed at home. At least Steve wouldn't have a broken wrist and be…be…damn it." Danny stopped talking then. He just couldn't think about it anymore. He could also feel his eye lids getting heavy and decided not to fight it.

"Hey Danny, are you alright?" Kono asked, a little worried.

"Mmm hmm" was the only reply and she realised that Danny had fallen asleep.

"He really needs to rest now cuz, hopefully McGarrett will be back up from his scan before our little buddy wakes up. Come on we better go see what's happening next door and how exactly Chi was up here and not cuffed to a bed somewhere," Chin said.

Walking out of the room he looked around and saw Kono lean down to Danny and said, "It's all good, we're all safe, boss is strong and will be fine. Sleep well now Danno." She then placed a gentle kiss on his furrowed brow which seemed to relax him.

Just after dawn, Danny stirred. Hearing sounds that told him he wasn't alone in the room, he turned his head toward the window and was surprised and elated to see his brother asleep in the bed beside him. Not believing his eyes he slowly climbed out of the bed, pulling the blanket with him and walked the couple of steps to the chair positioned by Steve's bed.

"Hey partner, it's good to see you," he whispered as he settled down into the chair pulling the blanket around him, glad of the flannel pyjamas.

Laying his left hand on Steve's cast right hand, he sat back and was soon once more fast asleep.

Kono and Chin arrived along at 8 a.m. to check in on them and found Danny slouched in the chair, with his head on the pillow beside Steve and his two hands holding Steve's injured right arm.

Kono took out her phone, grinning wickedly, "Well you have your black mail. I need to get in on the action." She took a snap of the best friends and giggled to herself.

"And they wonder why people always jump to the wrong conclusion, come on let's go get some coffee, leave sleeping beauty and prince charming sleep," Chin snorted.

"Which is which?" Kono asked as they waked out the door.

"Ha, does it really matter," Chin laughed as they walked back the way they came.

I'm not sure is "clocked" just an Irish phrase, basically it means spotted or recognised.
