Chapter 10: Dinner fiasco

Everyone say down at the long table, Mika at the front, as she should be. I was on the left and Sesshomaru was on her right. The two were muttering was strategies and political problems. I just picked at my food.

Inu was shoveling down his, making Kagome shake her head.

Miroku kept everyone else busy.

I paid really good attention to his last joke and my drink almost made a reappearance through my nose.

Then Sesshi made a comment, one Mika and me both wished he kept to himself. "If wanted, I could assemble western troops to help attack that human village. That Konoha. We would…"

"NO!" Mika shouted, standing up and slamming her palm into the table.

Thank god it can't be broken. Demon proof.

"Mika-Zuki…"

"Don't you fucking Mika-Zuki me. We are not attacking that village." She was still standing up.

I could tell the argument was far from over.

Inuyasha just sat there, food hanging out of his mouth, jaw dropped.

Everyone else had less disgusting, but similar, face.

"Just because you were in love with that human doesn't mean…" Sesshomaru shut up pretty quick after seeing Mika's face.

"God Sesshi. You an idiot!" I shouted.

Mika ran off to her room, trying to stop the tears.

"Onee-chan!" I shouted after her.

She never stopped.

Inuyasha finally swallowed. "What just happened?"

I glared at him. "Inuyasha, shut the hell up." I plopped back down into my seat and buried my face into my hands. God, life sucked.

Mika's POV:

Bag on my back, I jumped out the window and silently landed. Then I started running. This was all too much stressed for me. I'm only 16 for crying out loud! And yet, I am expected to run a kingdom, hold in all emotions, act emotionless, and deal with heartbreak. This was just too much. I ran 'till I got to a forest. The whole thing was shrouded with darkness and night. I entered. I heard the hooting of an owl, then a louder hoot of an owl demon. I smiled and put my hand on a trunk of a tree.

Then I heard a voice. "Back away from the tree."

I looked up to see a girl in the shadows. Her eyes were a deep green and her hair, black with green highlights. It was short, only to her shoulders and straight than Sesshomaru's. Her kimono was a forest green and short, ending a couple of inches above her knees. She had on black silk pants underneath. Then I noticed her other features. Around her eyes were black swirls, demon markings. On her head were 2 triangular ears with a black stripe in the middle. She had a bushy striped tail. This girl was a raccoon demon. In her hand was a green fan with the symbol of earth written I black ink on it.

She glared at me. "Who are you and what business do you have?"

I took a deep breath. "My name is Mika-Zuki Taisho, ruler of the Northern lands. I was exploring and wandered here. Who are you?"

Then demon narrowed her eyes. "I am Tara Ikasawa, daughter of Richelle and Morasuwa Ikasawa. I am guardian of the black forest, this forest." She jumped down from the branch she was on. Tara looked at me, then the tree.

I took my hand off and sighed.

She put her own hand there. "The tree says you're trustworthy. And this tree never lies." Tara proclaimed.

I gasped. She talked to the tree!

"It also says you are running. Life has been just one sucker punch after another. And now, you are scared. Scared to love, scared of life, scared to get hurt again." Tara continued.

I gasped again. "How do you…." I couldn't finish my sentence. Tears were threatening to overspill.

Tara shrugged. "The tree told me."

Then we jumped. Something was here.

"Black Dragon Strike!"
