Here is the second part. Enjoy... I hope.
Cat watched Kara in silence, the younger blonde's body now having been moved to the DEO's morgue, still and lifeless. Her eyes were red and swollen from all the crying she just finished going through. The heroine was covered, from her chest down, in a white material, and the CEO reached beneath it, taking out the woman's left hand.
She played with the engagement ring that adorned her ring finger, knowing that a wedding band would now never be around the digit. With her free hand, Cat's fingers ghosted over Kara's pale skin, before they tangled themselves in blonde locks, stroking her hair. She looked so calm, serene even that Cat could almost think that the woman was only a sleep. But there was no rise and fall of her Kryptonian lover's chest, proving what she should know as the truth.
She still couldn't believe it, however. Her mind knew, but her heart wouldn't accept the reality. Kara had survived so much, the woman literally going through hell and high water. Myriad, the Dominators, the Red Kryptonite. There where probably more that Kara never even told her about. She survived all of that, but the one thing that actual killed her was a shot to the chest by a man from another world, another earth.
Apparently, the Kryptonite that the man used was stronger than this earth's version. Which meant the poisonous substance could kill a Kryptonian faster. The rebels on Earth X had been planning to use it on their own Kryptonian menace, but never got a chance.
Stupid rebels, Cat thought herself, still trying to comprehend the fact that their are multiple universes, the Multiverse as they seem to call it. The CEO shook her head. Now wasn't the time to thing of all that. What mattered now was being with Kara, in these last few moments, before she would never see her beautiful face again.
"Excuse me, ma'am?" someone called out Cat from behind her. She looked over her shoulder and saw a gentlemen with a white lab coat, and glasses. "This place is for personnel only. You're not allowed to be here."
Cat's eyes hardened into glare. Was this idiot suggesting that she leave? "Are you new here?" the woman asked, her anger slowly beginning to build up. Right now, she couldn't be bothered with dealing with this crap. And luckily enough the idiotic 'doctor' was here to help her vent this new rise of rage.
The man looked flabbergasted at the question. "W-What's that got to do with anything?" he stuttered.
I take that as a yes, she thought, her orbs growing even more dangerous. Gently, she placed Kara's hand back down, and faced the buffoon that had managed to even get a job at the agency. "Tell me, do you see the woman behind me?" The doctor was about to answer, his throat ready to form words. But unfortunately for the man, he didn't know it was a rhetorical question.
"She is my fiancée," she continued, "some one who I loved dearly, and was going to pledge the rest of my life to! And now I will never get the chance! So the last thing I need right now is some pathetic newbie doctor telling me what to do!"
"Was..." the man whispered, but Cat could still hear what he said, her brows furrowed dangerously close together. If what he was going to say was what the blonde thought it was... "Was your fiancée."
She snapped.
"This could be the only place that she could be," Alex said out loud, heading toward the morgue, with Astra, where her sister's body was held. It really made her sick to think of Kara like that. After her death, Cat had cried herself until her throat had gone raw. From then on, she had been in her own world, wandering around the base. Even after Kara's body had gone, there was still no sign of the media mogul.
The pair stopped a few feet away from the double doors leading into the room. Through them was where her sister laid, and Alex took in a deep breath. She could feel her eyes begin to sting with tears. She tried to blink them back, but failed, stray tears falling down her cheeks. She could feel a hand on her arm, and before she knew it, the agent was in Astra's arms.
Like a dam bursting open, Alex clung onto her lover like her life depended on it, and like Cat, balled her eyes out. The agent had been trying to act strong but in the end she couldn't do it. Astra just held on to her human, kissing the brunette's hair and waited patiently. "What am I going to do without her Astra?" she asked, more to herself than the woman holding there.
"The only thing we can do, and what Kara would want us to do," said Astra, pushing Alex back slightly so they were face to face, cupping both of the agent's cheeks and stroking the damp flesh with her thumbs. "To push on. To move forward with our lives. And to help the three most important people in her life that need us now more than ever."
There was a pregnant pause, Alex wiping her eyes. "You're right," she sighed, closing her eyes and taking a deep breath, letting out a shaking exhale. If there ever was a time that her sister needed her the most, it was now. Both women parted then, and in that moment the double doors shot open, a man in a lab coat falling to the floor on his ass. He backed away, afraid, before he got up and ran like a bat out of hell. "I guess we found her."
The pair entered through the double doors into the morgue, and the woman they had been looking for was there, next to Kara. She knelt there, playing with the engagement ring, that was still on the younger blonde's finger, with one hand, while the other stroked through blonde strands. Alex didn't want to call out, so instead she opted to walk up to her.
She placed her hand on the blonde's shoulder, causing said woman to look up, her hazel eyes meeting Alex's. "Hey Cat."
"Alex," Cat whispered, standing up and hugging the agent. "I still can't believe she's gone."
"I know," Alex replied.
"I just don't know what I'm going to do now."
"We're going to carry on," said the agent, using Astra's words. "We're going to do what Kara would want us to do. And you've got a son and young daughter who needs their mother right now."
"Oh, Kiera," Cat said as if she realised something. "What will I tell her when she grows up?" Alex then pulled away, looking the woman in the eye.
"You just tell her the truth," Alex simply replied. "You just tell her how great her mother was. How she saved lives, and made them for the better." A smile returned to Cat's face, listening to Alex's words.
"You're right," hazel eyes then turned to the body next her. Leaning down, Cat kissed the heroine's forehead, backing up to look at every detail of the blonde's features, engraving them to memory. She then cupped the Girl of Steel's cheek, rubbing her thumb over the pale flesh. "I love you, my darling. Forever and always."
With those words, Cat reluctantly moved away, Alex also kissing the blonde's cheek, with a promise that she was going to take care of her family. Soon, they finally left, beginning to make preparations for the saddest day of National City history.
"People of National City," the President began, the woman standing in front of a podium. In front of her was the grave where Supergirl was laying, the House of El's shield engraved on top of it. "Today, we send off our beloved hero into the afterlife..."
As Olivia went on with the heroic speech, Cat stared at the grave that belonged to her beloved. Kiera was in her arms, crying as if she knew what her surroundings entailed. She was a very smart little girl, just like her other mother. The entire city was watching, camera crews spotted here and there. Not everyone was able to come in person, so they decided to put this out live so people could watch it from their homes.
The blonde was standing next to her son, his eyes red and puffy from crying moments before. When she had first broken the news to Carter, he didn't believe her at first. But when the proof was there in front of him, she saw the last thing that she hand't wanted for her son; seeing him cry. It broke the woman's heart seeing him like that.
Also standing next her were some of the DEO staff, except for J'onn J'onnz. There was still the chance that something could happen so only a few agents came personally to the funeral, while the rest stayed at the base. Alex was standing on the woman's left, the brunette placing her head on her Kryptonian lover's shoulder, while the other woman had her arm wrapped tightly around the agent.
Clark, who came as Superman, was standing on her right, his red cape fluttering lightly from the wind. And next to him was Lois Lane, the woman stood very close to the Man of Steel, but kept enough distance so that people wouldn't get any ideas. Not like they were paying any attention to them, but it was better safe than sorry.
James and Winn were there also, the older man standing next to the younger Lane, while Winn stood next to the couple with his head bowed. As the most powerful woman in the world continued her speech, Cat began to have a few flashbacks of her and Kara's, happily together.
Cat entered her home after a long day at CatCo. Carter was at his father's so it would be just her, Kara and their baby girl tonight. Looking forward to that moment, the woman took off her coat and placed her purse down on the counter. There was no sign of either girl in the living room, so she checked Kiera's room next.
But there was no one there.
There was only one place left to check, so she made her way to her bedroom. When she opened her door, right then and there, Cat could have melted into a puddle. Both of her girls where inside the bed, covers drawn over them. They were lying on their side, the light snoring echoing inside the room, and their hands were visibly clasped together, Kara's wrapping protectively over her daughter's.
Cat visibly smiled at the memory. That had happened a couple of months after Kiera had been born, and Kara wasn't used to looking after a child, not someone that young anyway. Her strength had still been slightly zapped, so the blonde was tired more than she used to be, and because she had loved the sight, the woman had taken the photo, the Girl of Steel blushing from both embarrassment and joy when she found out.
Another fond memory then came to mind, this one being when they went out on their first walk as a family.
Cat, Kara and Carter where having a leisurely stroll through National City, with Kiera in her baby stroller. The older blonde was pushing the buggy while her fiancée wrapped her arms around Cat's right one, her head resting on the woman's shoulder. The pair got a few stares every now and again, but neither cared. They soon took a break near a bench, which was conveniently near an ice cream parlour.
Thinking it would be a nice treat, Cat got up from the bench and made her towards it, getting three ice cream cones, and something little for Kiera. Thanking and paying the vendor, the woman turned to head back, only to stop and stare. She just stood there and watched her little family for a moment, Kiera happily giggling in Kara's arms while Carter made her laugh.
Kara looked up at that point and her twin ocean orbs gazed in Cat's and smiled at her, the CEO smiling in return. Ever since Cat was younger, she had wished one day that she would have a loving family, one that she never got to experience as much. And now here she was. It took her almost her whole life, but it was all worth the wait.
And if she could do it all over again, she would.
Cat felt the tears once again pour down her cheeks, knowing that she'll never again get to see that angelic smile from her beloved Kara. The little hands of Kiera began to wipe away her tears, and Cat couldn't help but kiss the her little bundle's forehead, appreciating what she's trying to do. Like she had thought, Kiera was a very smart little girl.
"Now," Olivia spoke up, having ending her speech. "Would people like to take a rose and say their goodbyes?"
Not surprisingly, everyone that was attending took a rose, from a bundle near the grave and formed a line. Each one of the civilians knelt down and placed their rose on the grave before saying their gratitude; either the girl saving them at some point, or being an inspiration, a symbol of hope just like her house represents.
After the civilians, up next was the DEO staff followed by Winn, James and Lucy. Once they placed their roses and down and said their long farewells, it was the Man of Steel and Lois' turn. Like everyone before them, they placed the rose on the grave and Clark began to say something in Kryptonian. She didn't understand a word of it, but whatever it was, it was only between Kara and Clark and the woman would respect that.
Then it was Astra and Alex's turn. Again, on Astra's part, words were spoken in Kryptonian and when Alex said her goodbyes she again made a promise to her kid sister that she would protect the family that Kara had worked so hard to achieve.
Then it was finally Cat and Carter's turn. When the boy placed his rose down, the woman could here him sniffle. "Goodbye Kara," Carter choked out, trying to get the words that he never had wanted to say out. "T-Thanks for all the great times. It would have been s-so cool to have you as my m-mother."
Cat could feel her heart breaking for her son, but what made it worse was what he said next, something that Kara would have loved oh so much to hear.
"I love you... Mom."
With the word out, the sniffles quickly became a cry. Cat hugged the boy, and Carter clutched on to his mother like his life depended on it. Looking in Alex's direction, the agent took the silent hint and walked up to the pair. Alex gently took Carter and walked back to Astra, leaving Cat to say goodbyes.
Placing the rose down, her fingers lingered on the grave. "I hoped this day would never come, but now that it has, I haven't had time to think of what to say," Cat began. "But I do know this; I love so much, Kara, now and always. So rest easy darling, and someday I'll be with you soon."
The media mogul made her way back to her family, taking Carter from Alex. When she saw that everything had been done, Olivia decided to bring the saddest event in National City to a close.
"Supergirl," said the president. "Wherever you are, I hope that you find peace, and you shall be missed. But know that this city will live up to the courage and dedication that you had shown us."
And with that, it was done.
Officially, declared in front of everyone there; Supergirl was no more.
It was late a night. A teenage girl, along with her three friends, twos boys and another girl, were making their way towards the site where Supergirl had been buried. The girl knew that it was a bad idea, not because she was scared. It was because she loved the Girl of Steel. She was her idol, something to inspire to. The other girl also thought that it was a bad idea, and voiced it out, but the two boys thought otherwise.
Slowly, the grave that contained the woman was in sight. "Come on," the girl spoke up, "let's just go. We might get caught."
"Look, we're just going to touch the grave and then we'll be done," said one of the boys.
"You're not scared are you?" asked the other, teasingly.
"The girl blushed. "N-No," she stuttered, cursing herself. "Let's go," she said, walking ahead from everyone else. The sooner they got this over with, the better. When the grave was in front of them, the girl looked at it in awe. Unfortunately she hadn't been there when they did the funeral, only being able to catch it on television. So seeing it here, Supergirl's emblem on the grave with roses on top of it, there were no words to describe how she felt then.
The boys where the first to touch the heroine's grave and celebrated with a high-five. The girl's girl friend shrugged her shoulders and went to touch the grave too, until finally it was her turn. Slowly, she edged her way toward the grave and took a moment of pause. Then, she reached out and brushed her fingertips on the hard, smooth stone. She let out a breath that she hadn't realised she was holding and turned back to face her friends.
"See?" said one of the boys. "It wasn't so bad now was it?"
Saying that, she was about to believe it. That was until she felt something brush her leg. She jumped and screamed, causing everyone else to jump. "Something just touched my leg!"
Her friends were about to reply, until they too jumped. "Something just touched me!"
Fear gripping them, they all took out their cell phones and used the light to shine on the ground. What they saw stunned them. The small rocks and debris around the ground were beginning to hover. Not wanting to stick around any longer, the four friends scattered to the wind.
All the while, the rocks and debris that were hovering suddenly fell to the floor.
What does this mean? Find out in the next chapter. Until then, I'm going to go hide somewhere.
