My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic

Ladder Company 6 (Engine Company 22)

Chapter 10: Up in Smoke (As Told By: Gabby)

It was another day at the station. The winter months had passed, and spring was just around the corner. It is a big day for Lieutenant De Faucon. Captain Gordon had assigned her to Engine Company 22. She is now the commander of our station's quint unit. I was assigned to her company with Engineer Gilda, Genevieve, and Gallus.

Sadly though, our local supermarket had burned down and now we have to go somewhere else to buy groceries for the station, but we were the ones to put out the fire. Captain Gordon gave us a shopping list of things we need around the kitchen from bacon to frozen vegetables. There is a new supermarket that just opened in Ponyville.

This new market also serves griffon food, "What do you think? Brown sugar or maple?" said Gallus,

"Let's go with both, and see to everyone's tastes," said Genevieve while I went to find some cereal,

"I got the frozen peas and sweet corn," said Genevieve as she tossed them into the shopping cart,

We got all kinds of things that were on the list. It seems Captain Gordon likes spicy food as got some Tostitos and a jar of spicy queso and salsa. It's nice to have those things around when watching a movie or a game in the TV room. We paid for our food in the checkout line, and headed outside to head back to the station with our haul

Just then, I saw my friends Applebloom and Sweetie Belle run passed me and the Lieutenant. I didn't get a chance to say hi to them, "Hmm...they seem to be in a bit of a rush," said Wilhelmina, and I noticed them going over to a pay phone outside of the supermarket. The fact they are in a hurry made me feel something was not right.

"Quick! What's the number for 911?" Sweetie Belle asked Applebloom when they got to the phone,

"How would I know?" Applebloom replied, Sweetie Belle shrugged and they left the phone dangling.

You can't expect a clubhouse in a tree to have a smoke detector. Lieutenant De Faucon and I looked over to see smoke in the distance. We got our chance at some action. Our groceries were all but packed in the rig, and we all hurried over to where we saw the smoke. It turned out that the Cutie Mark Crusaders clubhouse is on fire.

With horns blasting and sirens wailing, we got the truck over to the treehouse. Scootaloo was waiting outside the tree, "It's the Firebirds!" she cheered, we parked the rig and hooked up the hose to the nearest fire hydrant. We formed a hose team as Engineer Gilda charged the line, and we put a steady stream of water on the fire.

"How'd you know where to find us?" asked Scootaloo to me as we tamed the fire before it could spread.

"We saw Applebloom and Sweetie Belle at the pay phone, we figured something was wrong," I replied,

"We need you three to stay back, this is very dangerous," said the lieutenant amid the sound of the hose.

Within minutes the fire was out. Sadly, the clubhouse was a burnt out shell of itself, but the fire did not spread to the surrounding tree which is a miracle in itself, "Thank you so much for helping us, you griffons are the best!" said Scootaloo, I shared a hug with the Cutie Mark Crusaders, and introduced my friends from the fire station,

"It's so great to see you all! These are my firefighter friends, this is Lieutenant Billie, Engineer Gilda, Firefighter Genevieve and Firefighter Gallus," I said introducing Engine Company 22 to my friends. As a firefighter, there is always one thing that is the number one priority, "I'm so glad you guys are safe," I said placing them back down,

"But what's going to happen to our clubhouse?" Sweetie Belle asked, she sadly looked up at the ruins.

"Don't worry, leave that to us," said Gallus, as he nodded back at us and we nodded with readiness.

"Yeah, we're gonna build it," said Gilda, while the Cutie Mark Crusaders went home, we took Scootaloo with us back to the fire station and she helped us in designing a new clubhouse in the tree. The next day we went back to the tree with our rig, but instead of hoses we brought tools, ladders and nails. We then set about building the house.

A few hours, a few nails, and a couple pots of paint later and the new Cutie Mark Crusader clubhouse was complete. It warmed my heart to see them so happy, "Hey, if you girls wanna stop by the station, you're welcome anytime," I said as we had to go back to the station in Fillydelphia. There is no better feeling in the world than helping others.

"You know something Gabby, you and Billie are right, it feels good to give back to the community," said Gilda

"You do it every time we go into action, every fire we put out to every life that we save," replied the Lieutenant,

"Why else would anyone want to be a firefighter?" I asked while cleaning the counters in the kitchen after a breakfast of pancakes and buttered toast to start the day. We brought out the trucks to do our daily equipment inspections. When I am in the Bronto Skylift, I think to myself that not only do we rescue those in danger, but fix powerlines.

"Okay Gilda, let's run it!" called out Gallus from the controls, and Gilda charged up the hose from the hydrant. It is very satisfying being at the controls of the nozzle on the basket. With a turn of a knob on the nozzle, I can turn it from a wide pattern to a sharp stream. The water is so powerful it can knock down walls like at the market fire.

Lieutenant De Faucon is on the hose team, and checks to see if there are any holes in the line, "Looks good," she said,

"Just another day in the life," I replied as I got down from the basket as the jib arm was lowered, ready for the next call.
