I'm scared that I'm falling
I'm blind and I'm falling

They began to climb up at dawn.

After two hours of climbing, it started to rain. Beatrice put on a hood and wrapped it around her tightly. She followed Fili, and behind her was Bofur. She walked as close to the rock as it was possible. At first, Balin led them, but after some time Thorin took his place as a guide. Beatrice has climbed a few summits in her life, but never in such weather. The visibility was poor and the path was slippery from the water and you had to watch out even more. The storm was raging, and because of the lightning she could see how high they were, and what would be the effect of the fall from that height.

Thorin shouted that they had to find shelter and Beatrice shared his opinion. She had a feeling of anxiety, and she knew that he was not related to matter of wandering on steep trail. She know the difference between fear and anxiety. She had the feeling that she should remember what was going to happen. She watched the first part of the film, didn't she? For a few days she had pangs of conscience, because she knew that a battle would take place and that someone would die. But what was she supposed to say?

"I know some of you will die in the battle. I don't know what battle it will be and when it will happen. How do I know that? I watched the film. In my world you are fictional characters."

How would that sound? They would claim her to be crazy. But she was really worried. Then it dawned on her. Her friend told her about it in text messages. If only she could find a moment for herself, without anyone else around, to check it. She would find out and change what needed to be changed.

Beatrice slipped, but she quickly balanced herself before anyone noticed. Balin said something, but Beatrice didn't hear it through a loud thump. With wide eyes she looked at the giant made of stones. He stood up and threw a rock in their direction. Behind them was another one. It looked like they were fighting.

The ground under them shook. Beatrice grabbed Fili's arm to keep herself from falling. The path began to split between them, making one part of the companion separate from the other.

"Kili! Grab my hand! Kili! "yelled Fili and Beatrice looked over his shoulder.

Suddenly, a huge stone began to fall on the part of the company where Kili was. Thorin and Fili screamed, and Beatrice stared blankly at the place where he had been just moment ago. She thought of a boy, who called her auntie, who was always grinning at her, who laughed with her, who was dancing with her, who had just become her family. Beatrice began to cry and Bofur tried to comfort her.

"We're all right! We're alive! "called out Balin and Beatrice calmed down. Her calm didn't last long though.

"Where's Bilbo? Where's the hobbit?"

Beatrice immediately rushed to save Bilbo. She leaned forward and extended her hand as far as she could. Her left hand leaned on the rocks. Bilbo was holding on just with his fingertips and he almost caught her. Almost being the key word. He slipped. Beatrice bent over, petrified. Bilbo managed to catch some rock durning his fall. But Beatrice wasn't so lucky. The slippery made her almost fall into the abyss, but Thorin saved her. He grabbed her waist, threw her at Bofur, then pulled Bilbo out. Beatrice opened her mouth to thank him, when a scene that taken place before her broke her heart.

"I thought we'd lost our burglar," Dwalin said, panting after saving Thorin from falling

"He's been lost ever since he left home. He should never come. He has no place among us." he growled. Beatrice looked at the hobbit's face, who was ready to cry. He turned away and his anger didn't fade even when he looked at her. Beatrice stepped back, frightened. The king looked away. "Dwalin!"

Thorin and Dwalin left, most likely to find the cave. Beatrice went back to Bilbo to see if he was okay. He was a little battered, but let her to hug him. When she entered the cave, she looked for the young dwarf. When she found him, she caught him and pressed herself to him. They could have been the same age, but Beatrice treated him like younger sibling. She pulled away from him, brushed hair out of his face and hit her forehead with his.

"Don't you ever think about fucking dying," she said. "Because I will revive you and kill you again."

Kili laughed and Beatrice calmed down. But something much worse would have to happen. She had to go talk to Thorin. She couldn't let fear control her. If she won't scold him, no one will. She took a deep breath in and then out. Beatrice was hurt because of dwarrow's behavior not only because of Bilbo's feelings, but also her own. She knew how stubborn Thorin could be and that he was a hothead. She knew he would often say something before he thought about it. He was, however, caring. She saw it and felt it herself. He was honorable. Intelligent. Beautiful.

Beatrice stop in the center of the cave. She knew she had a crush on him, but the feelings that swirled in her were more than simple. Beatrice realized at that very moment something very important. She was wet, nervous, frightened and madly in love with Thorin Oakenshield. She looked at her engagement ring and made a decision. She took it off and hid in her pocket. She knew that no matter if she managed to get home, or if there was something between Thorin and her, she could not be John's wife. No, when she is in love with someone else.

She stepped closer to the dwarf. She touched his arm and waited for him to turn around.

"Why were you so cruel to Bilbo?" she asked, before he met her eyes. "You didn't have to speak to him that way. In fact, each one of us could end up like him. I stumbled a few times and did not fall only because of pure luck."

"He doesn't fit in here, Miss Whitley. He is too soft, he won't survive..."

"You need him! You hired him as a burglar. His task is to steal from the dragon. I know you're hoping Smaug is dead, but I doubt it. You will need Bilbo, but it's me you mother me, you are more worried about me, and I am only a burden. I won't do anything for you," she tried to talk sense into him. "He's part of your company, Thorin. He wants to help you reclaim the home you have lost and you are taking it out on him when he couldn't control it."

"Miss Whitley," he said, his tone cold. "Go get some rest. We are leaving early this morning."

Beatrice tightened her lips to a thin line, turned on her heel, and left to lean against the wall. Thorin forbidden them to make a fire, and she did not want to soak her sleeping bag. When the dwarves fell asleep and Bofur took over the first guard, Beatrice took out the phone. She found the texts from the year of the premiere of the last part of the film and began to read. The search took some time, but eventually she learned what she wanted to know. Thorin, Fili and Kili were to die. Azog and his son were to be blamed for it. Beatrice knew she wouldn't sleep a wink this night. She thought she might find something else, but her friend probably told her a lot when she called.

Beatrice sighed and tried to devise a plan of action, though she did not know the details that would make it possible. She just had to make sure that there was no battle, or that she was still with the king and the princes to prevent them from dying. She closed her eyes to get some rest when she heard Bilbo's conversation with Bofur. Her heart ached, while she listened his words of longing for home. But she didn't manage to get up when she heard shouting.

"Wake up. Wake up! "

Beatrice watched with horror as, what she thought was the floor, turned out to be the doors. It opened up and they all started to fall. Beatrice started screaming and then fell to the ground. The pain spread throughout her body and she was afraid to move so that it did not turn out that something had happened to her spine. She groaned, rising slowly and opening her eyes, which closed in flight. Dwarves were lying next to her in one big pile. They all were in a wooden cage, from which they were chased out by disgusting creatures. They took their weapons away and started chasing them like cattle. Beatrice found herself next to Dori and grabbed him by the arm, uncertain of what was happening.

The strange beings sang and led them to a room where the monstrous creature sat in the central part. Beatrice swallowed and drew closer to the dwarrow.

"Who would be so bold as to come into my kingdom? Spies? Thieves? Assassins? "asked the monster, his voice as horrible as the look.

"Dwarves, Your Malevolence." The leader of the group responded.

"Dwarves?"

"Yes, and a female. We found them on the front porch. "

"A female, you say? Well, do not just stand there; search them! Every crack, every crevice. " he ordered, and the slippery paws began to search her. They found a pouch of money from Bilbo and an engagement ring, but they did not pay attention to her earrings."What are you doing in these parts? Speak! "Nobody answered. "Well then, if they will not talk, we'll make them squawk! Bring out the Mangler! Bring out the Bone Breaker! Start with the female. Let's give her a warm up, before the real fun."

Beatrice squealed as the goblins caught her and tried to take the king. Thorin grabbed her arm and went out to the center. He didn't let go of her, and even clenched his fingers harder on her. Beatrice wanted to hide behind his back, but she found courage in herself and stood upright at the dwarves king's side.

"Well, well, well, look who it is. Thorin son of Thrain, King of the Mountain." Goblin bowed artificially, laughing. "Oh, but I'm forgetting, you do not have a mountain. And you're not a king. Which makes you nobody, really. I know someone who will pay a pretty price for your head. Just the head, nothing attached. Maybe you know of whom I speak, an old enemy of yours. A Pale Orc astride a White Warg. "

Beatrice felt Thorin shiver. He looked at the goblin in shock, not believing what he had just heared.

"Azog the Defiler was destroyed. He was slain in the battle long ago. " he said, and Beatrice recognized the name. Balin was talking about him and he was responsible for Thorin's death in her world. Not in this. Never in this. Here she can stop him.

"So you think his defiling days are done, do you?" he snickered. "Send word to the Pale Orc, tell him I have found his prize."

One of the goblins took care of it, and the others began to bring the torture tool on their shoulders. They danced and sang, and Beatrice feared them more than the orcs riding on their wargs. Thorin embraced her as if his shoulders could protect her from the world. The woman doubted it, especially now that they knew what sword Thorin had. They were terrified, but also enraged. Beatrice was also torn apart by two feelings: fear and amusement. Goblins were disgusting, but also comical in their behavior.

The amusement faded when the goblins rushed to tie them. She was separated from Thorin and the rest of the dwarves. The king tried to break away, staring into her eyes with alarm and panic. Beatrice also wriggled as much as she could, but it did not do much.

Suddenly there was an explosion and light swept them all. Beatrice glanced toward the sound and saw Gandalf, who had persuaded them to fight. The sword reached Beatrice's hand, and she immediately repelled the enemy's attack, then began to run after Dori. The last thing the woman saw coming out of the throne room was the falling body of the Goblin King.

Gandalf led them trough the corridor toward the exit and Beatrice was very happy to see the light of the setting sun. The wizard started counting them and one person was missing. Beatrice looked around and looked at the faces of the dwarves. Dwarves. There was no Bilbo. The company began to argue about who was responsible for his disappearance. Finally the leader spoke.

"I'll tell you what happened. Master Baggins saw his chance and he took it! He is thought of nothing but his soft bed and his warm heart since he stepped out of his door! We will not be seeing our Hobbit again. He is long gone."

Beatrice approached him and was about to grab his hand when the hobbit appeared.

"No, he is not."

She ran to him and hugged him, happy to have him with her. She let him go, when the king demanded an answer.

"Look, I know you have me. And you're right, I often think of Bag End. I miss my books. And my armchair. And my garden. See, that's where I belong. That's home. And that's why I came back, cause you do not have one. A home. It was taken from you. I will help you take it back if I can. "

Now everything was going well. Thorin began to trust Bilbo. Beatrice looked at the king and smiled. Everything went in the right direction.
