A/N: Surprise epilogue! (that everyone already predicted :( ah, well. It's here, and it's a little taste of what's going to happen next)
Very short, only 260 words, but that's enough for what I had in mind. It's over now, for realsies. Thank you all for reading, your reviews, and everything.
Until next time,
- El Barto 227.
Janine White sat at her desk, reading over a piece of paper and nursing her broken right arm. Dressed impeccably, White had an air of unmistakable authority, even with one arm in a cast.
She picked up a radio with her left hand, spoke her callsign and recipient and waited for an answer. White happened to be ambidextrous, so the injury was not as crippling as it would seem.
"Janine. I take it you need something from the lab?"
"No. We have a new patient zero for you. Hunter mutation,"
"Excellent. How are you bringing it to me?"
"I don't have it yet. The soldiers have been ordered to do whatever they must to track it down. We need this one. CEDA records indicate he was infected after a failed vaccine trial caused the first mutations, and was supposedly immune,"
"You are remarkably well-informed about it. Even I have no such records,"
"The subject kept a copy of his records, and payed more attention to a gun than his backpack. Probably sentimental, one of the only fragments of his past he had left. I will forward them to you,"
"And how dangerous is this asset?"
"I do not know. Assume very dangerous. My soldiers will find him, and then you can get to work on your research, Dr Henderson. You'll have your lab rat soon,"
Janine White turned the radio off, then gave Matthew Deluna's file one last look before closing it and pushing it away.
"I'll find you, little rat. And when the white-coats are done with you, I'll break a lot more than just your arm,"
