Chapter Ten:
"I would rather not say Sarah, I've studied you humans for quite sometime. I know how you all look upon age." Jareth answered honestly.
"Well Jareth first, if you have studied us humans as you clam to have, then you would know. That not all of us humans look at any thing the same way, we are all different. Just as I'm sure every fae is different from another...With age yeah, you have those humans who care and it does bother them. Then you have the rest who believe age is just a number." Sarah explained to him just before being innocently interrupted by the waitress.
The way that young woman looked at Jareth made Sarah go crazy inside with jealously. She was looking at him like he was the only one at the table sitting, no scratch that, the only one in the whole damn restaurant!
Jareth was looking at Sarah and her alone, she hid it pretty well but he could still see a glimpse of it in her eyes. To say he wasn't delighted about it would have been a lie.
Reaching over he gently placed his hand over her's and giving it a small squeeze. Which made Sarah give a small smile and made the waitress see the truth.
Once they had given her their order, Sarah gave a sigh of relieve than began again. "Anyways I am one of those who believe age is just that a number, I just want to know more about you. Isn't that what we are supposed to be doing? Learning?"
Jareth knew she was telling the truth just by looking at her, 'I wish I could just magic up a crystal right now.' Twisting and playing with his crystals always calmed his nerves and if he wasn't using them for that, they also helped him think when he couldn't.
'She's still the same headstrong woman she ever was and if I want any chance of a happy ending to this fairytale. I need to open up more and let her truly see me for who I am.' Jareth thought with a smirk. "I am 3,500 years of age Sarah."
"See now was that so hard?" She asked teasing him, while reaching over to squeeze his right hand. "I honestly have no idea what to tell you about myself. You probably know everything there is to know about me."
"Believe it or not precious but I do not, but I'd like too." Jareth replied still kind of in shock by her boldness.
"We have plenty of time to learn and I will tell you whatever you wish to know Jareth. I have nothing to hide, there really isn't much to me."
"Oh I highly doubt that precious, I'm sure there is much more to you than that." Jareth openly stated as their dinner arrived.
" Maybe" she replied with a shrug of her shoulders, as their dinner arrived.
Once dinner was over, the couple walked back to Sarah's house. Unlocking the door she noticed Jareth wasn't beside her. "Aren't you coming in?"
"I can't Sarah, not without permission. I have no power over you remember precious?"
Sarah understood and smiled "Jareth, you have power over me." Jareth was nearly blown back with that one.
"Thank you"
Sarah shrugged her shoulders and simply stated."It's no problem Jareth, after all we are together now. I see no reason you shouldn't be allowed too."
Jareth gave a small head nod and they went inside. Sarah went into the kitchen to make them a hot cup of coffee. They then retired into the living room where it would be more comfortable.
"Sarah are ya there?" Hoggle's voice said from a small mirror in her purse. Picking it up she smiled at Jareth and placed a finger against her lips. He had a knowing look in his eye along with a devilish grin.
Taking out the mirror she replied, "Yes I'm here Hoggle."
"Good I has a question for ya, what is going on between yous and the rat?" Hoggle asked, making Sarah choke on her drink.
"What? Wow there Hoggle, one what do you mean? And two what are you so upset about?"
Hoggle then fell silent for a few short seconds, realizing he was being quite harsh on her. "I's sorry Sarah I didn't mean to sound upset."
"It's alright Hoggle" Sarah said with a smile, "Now would you like to try that again?"
The dwarf simply nodded and said " Is something going on between you and him?"
Before Sarah could answer her friend she saw a goblin pull on his shirt and say "ask her ask her"
"As me what?" She asked with the sweetest smile on her face.
"They want me to ask you, if ya know where he is?"
"Okay well to your first question, him and I are dating now and - "
"WHAT!?" Hoggle shouted so loud it made the mirror shake. "When did this happen Sarah?"
"Yesterday Hoggle and now as for the second question..." She turned the mirror around to face Jareth.
"Hello Hogwart" Jareth greeted and Sarah just rolled her eyes and smiled.
Hoggle's face turned white as a ghost, when his eyes saw the Goblin King sitting on Sarah's couch. Within a matter of seconds his face went from white to beat red. "OHHH IT'S HOGGLE!"
"Yeah whatever" Jareth replied with his usual smirk, out of the corner of his eye he could see Sarah lightly shake her head at him.
"Now what pray tell do you think you're doing Hogwart?" Jareth asked looking like the true King that he was.
"Oh nothin just wonderin what kind of enchantment you put on her. To make her even consider accepting you." Hoggle finished feeling pretty good for sticking up to him.
Sarah turned the mirror back around to her, "Hoggle that is enough, now stop this. The way your behaving is uncalled for, besides if it wasn't for you my friend, this new relationship may not have happened." She said while smiling up at Jareth whom was narrowing his eyes dangerously at her. "Oh I assure you that it would have precious"
"No! I's wont stop!" Hoggle said clearly still quite upset.
"Listen Hoggle Jareth hasn't done anything to me expect for being a complete gentlemen. I'm sorry if you can't accept my relationship with him but I am not going to change my mind."
"But-"
"Goodbye Hoggle" Sarah said while putting the mirror back in its place. "He'll clam down sooner or later, I have no idea whats gotten into him. I do apologize for his behavior Jareth."
"No need Sarah, I'm used to putting up with him...hmmm maybe I should keep up my little promise to him."
"Oh and what promise would that be?"
"When you were running my Labyrinth, I promised to make him a prince."
Sarah was now narrowing her eyes at him "A prince?"
"Prince of the land of stench" Both burst out with laughter.
"Maybe that would help to keep him in line, especially if he actually fell in it this time." Just the thought of that made her laugh before adding "I will never forget that bog for as long as I live."
"Come here Sarah, come sit beside me, I wont bite." Jareth offered with a grin while holding out his arms inviting her in.
"Hmmm...well now how can I be sure that you wont?" Sarah said jokingly while pretending to think. "After all dear Goblin King, how can I be so sure that I can trust you?"
"I suppose you'll just have to come here and find see, though I can be cruel."
"There is no doubt in my mind that you can be, but something tells me that you're a better person than you lead on to be." Sarah pointed out. "I still don't know that much about you Jareth but I just get a good feeling that I can indeed trust you."
He just gave a soft sweet smile, one that he gives only to her. "Don't say anything, I have a reputation to uphold."
Accepting his invitation she came into his strong embrace and wrapped her arms around him as well. "Your secret is safe with me, my King."
They both laughed and talked for hours, learning quite a bit about each other. Completely fascinated with the other, while he grew a fascination for playing with her hair.
As the night grew on and it became quite late, Sarah laid her head upon Jareth's chest. For a second he thought that his heart was going to pound straight out of his chest as he held the love of his life in his arms like this. Her breathing evened out and he knew she had fallen asleep.
Conjuring up a crystal he made a pillow and blanket appear. Gently and slowly he laid down on the couch, so he wouldn't wake his beloved. Had his magic cover them up.
Sleep came easy that night, he felt happy, he felt right and wanted.
