"Kendall, are you okay?"

I looked up, just in time before I collided with a shorter, spiky-haired brunette. My legs froze. My gaze lingered on Logan's sympathetic face before I replied, "I'm good. Why?"

"You seem down and –," His chocolate brown eyes shifted past my head, a sceptic frown on his face. I didn't have to turn to know that he was staring at my boyfriend, who was walking a few paces behind me, distracted by his phone. The boy sighed. "Again?"

A forced smile tugged at my lips as I shrugged as per what I've done for the past week or two, every single time someone asked about James and I. It's not like we were fighting, no. His hazel eyes are just permanently glued to the glowing screen instead of my gloomy face.

He's been oblivious since Shane dropped the bombshell about Alexander.

When that happened, everything went silent, all eyes trained on the messy brunette. He actually looked relieved for a moment, as though the news was a burden he had to carry. Shane didn't exactly get to explain what he meant.

Seeing as how his twin immediately socked him in the face.

Brooke and I tried to pull them apart, but to no avail. They both had red, anger-filled eyes, and, seeing by the way James' muscles were slowly doubling again, my powers came forth. The small, seemingly harmless blue lights materialised from the tips of my fingers and separated the two boys when they touched the twins' shoulders.

James and Shane both flew to opposite ends of the room with a groan as they slumped to the ground, holding their wounded arms. I, on the other hand, was heaving from the effort to calm down the electrified streams in my body.

The zapping slowly faded away and I collapsed to the floor tiredly, leaving Brooke flabbergasted and panicking.

Once all the commotion died down, we were given an earful on mannerism. James and I were sent back to his room, whereas Shane, whose bruised eye was beginning to show, was forced to sleep on the couch.

According to him, Malle Valley was too far to return to and he had nowhere to stay, claiming that he had been sneaking in and out of old, abandoned houses to stay the night. Seeing as how there were a few unoccupied buildings residing outside of town, Brooke didn't question it. Once my boyfriend heard of this, however, he rolled his eyes and snorted, "Go do that."

I knew Brooke was tempted to, the look in her eyes gave that away, but she couldn't send a teenage boy home at 4 in the morning, especially one who claimed to be related to her.

She knew deep in her heart that it was a lie. Still, sending Shane out into the late night would probably be wrong for any mother to do.

Therefore, she ended up getting the unmannered brunette to stay the night. Thankfully, he disappeared by the next morning, never seen again up til this day.

James, however, had been glued to his phone screen for every single waking hour since then.

"We're fine, Loges." We stopped as I turned the combination for my locker. Logan opened his mouth to say something, only to close it and shake his head.

"Can we talk during lunch later?" he asked, all the while his brown eyes fixed on captain oblivious, James. "Alone. Just the two of us."

"Why? Are you planning to ask me out?" I teased harmlessly, cheekily grinning at my best friend, whose cheeks turned red. I poked them childishly. "Oh Logie, I would love to. But you have Carlitos!"

The brunette rolled his eyes and swatted my eager fingers away. "Who the hell would want to date you?" I smiled and pointed my finger to my boyfriend, who was finally behind me but still unaware over what was happening. He just seemed engrossed with his phone, his thumbs tapping the screen furiously. Logan smirked. "Well, there's him. But, I'm serious, bro. Meet me at lunch, okay?"

I peeped from the other side of the locker door, looking at the shorter teen with curious eyes. "Fine," I said, nodding. Knowing Logan, he won't leave this alone until I agree, or at least until I approached him to clear it out. Whatever it is. "I'll meet you by the ice rink."

The genius' face softened and he smiled. "Great," he replied, turning to leave. "See you two later!"

I shook my head fondly and grabbed the books I needed, stuffing them into my backpack. Slamming the locker shut, I turned around and faced my boyfriend, who was still busy tapping away with a frown on his face. I rolled my eyes.

Is that thing really worth more attention than me? I wondered.

Without him realising my movements, I snuck a quick kiss to his pulsing neck and smirked when I felt him jump away from my warmth. James stared at me incredulously with wide, slightly red, eyes and started chuckling.

As though finally noticing my annoyance to his sudden attraction to his mobile device, the pretty boy tucked it away in his pocket and wrapped his arms around me, once more enveloping me in his cooling embrace.

"Sorry 'bout that, babe," he mumbled into my hair, the pads of his thumbs rubbing circles on my hips. "Just some important stuff."

"Since we've met Shane?" I asked, pouting like a small child. I didn't mind James being on his phone, but it almost seems like he's in love with technology than me and I take extreme insult from that. What if it isn't technology? I gripped the front of his shirt and shook the thought away furiously.

"Ken?"

"You're not cheating on me, are you?" I blurted, my cheeks and ears burning from the question gnawing on the inside of my head. "It's not some other girl or guy, is it?"

The look on his face screamed 'Unbelievable!' as his hands cupped my cheek. Without a second's hesitation, he pressed his lips urgently to mine, as though it was capable of erasing the negative thought from my head.

His lips were cold against mine, moving ever so gently, his tongue slithering into my mouth. I felt the rush spreading through my body, the buzzing creeping into my ears as blue lights shone on the back of my eyelids.

I didn't want to, but I pulled away, breathless from just one small kiss. Little blue lights hovered by the space between our lips, flickering as they swirled into thin air.

James' hands quickly swung against the currents, causing them to disappear before any of the other students could take notice. He was frantic, his heartbeat picking up as he swung his gaze from side to side.

The brunette took my hands in his and took a deep breath, his hazel eyes gleaming as he stared at me. "I love you, so much," he whispered. Then, just loud enough for me to pick up with my hearing, he continued, voice low and harsh, "Don't let anyone else see your powers until I give you the green light, understand?"

I froze, nodding slowly. There was a hitch to his tone, something itching to crawl its way out of his parted lips. Urgency. I knew he was keeping whatever it was a secret.

A smile etched to his face as he pulled away. Just then, the first bell rang, startling us both. We glanced at the clock and, with one of our hands still clasped together, dashed to our first class, laughing away like little kids in love.

Come lunch time and I was once again on my own. James had disappeared from school a few hours after the last class we had together, texting me nothing but a 'Something came up. I'll meet you outside your last class after school, promise - James '.

Curiosity had me on the edge of my seat. I wanted to know what was going on with James, why he keeps bailing on me and who he was talking to so furiously majority of the time on the phone.

But I knew him well enough to know that, if it was something I needed to be aware of, James would've told me from the beginning.

Dejectedly, I shuffled my way to the rink to meet Logan. Some of the school hockey players passed me by, chattering with their loud voices. They spotted me and immediately fist-bumped me, one particular blonde asking, "Are we going to be training through prom week?"

"Prom?" I blinked at them, clearly confused for a moment before it dawned on me. I glanced at the date on my phone and gaped. Prom night is coming in about a month! "Well, damn. I'm not so sure about that. Probably not, though."

"I hope so!" one of my attackers, Neil, chirped. He wiggled his hips suggestively, smirking. "I'm hoping for some action on prom night with Michelle. I'll need my strength, okay!"

"Damn, Neil. You're not the only one wanting to get laid!" the others teased, thoughts of having fun with their dates running through their heads. They all had a hopeful glimmer in their eyes when they looked at me, almost pouting.

"Fine," I said, feeling defeated by my own team. "I'll talk to Coach about postponing training during prom week but I can't promise much."

I cowered slightly as they cheered and thanked me, their happy voices bouncing off the walls. As the team walked off into the crowded hallway, I made my way to the ice rink, shoulders sagged as questions filled my mind.

James and I should be going to prom together, right? We're boyfriends, therefore we'd attend as a couple, right?

So why has he not brought it up yet? Did he ask someone else? Maybe it's a girlfriend. What if he plans to break up with me during prom? What if he grew tired of seeing my face day and night? What if-

"Kendall!" I stopped dead in my tracks and turned towards the female voice, surprised. She ran towards me, her face scrunched up from exhaustion. "Oh God, I've been calling out to you at the hallway and you just ignored me! Nice hair, though."

I tilted my head sideways, staring at her sweaty face and messy bun of blonde hair. Sighing, I replied, "Look, Jo, if this is about Trevor, I'm sorry, okay?"

I was curious as to why she was looking for me, especially since the whole incident involving her baby being sold off for the sake of science. After the proper burial of Trevor Stetson, rumours had spread like wildfire about the school's hottest couple calling it quits.

If I hadn't met James, I probably would try to get back together with my ex-girlfriend again after hearing the news. Instead, I was busy getting my powers, and love life, under control to even spare a thought about it.

Now, here she is, her radiant glow faded, her muscle tone reduced to nothing but skin and bones. She frowned as my words hit her, her brown eyes watering slightly. I cringed in guilt, reaching out to touch her.

"N - No, I – I," Jo sighed, her head dropping as she calmed herself down by clenching and unclenching her fists."It's about Jett. Ever since we broke up, he's been acting weird. His mom has been calling me up almost thrice every week, late at night, asking if he was with me again."

"She was worried about him. Jett changed, his temper controlling his decisions."

"Jo –" I interrupted, clutching her arms and shaking her. The blonde had begun to look pale, her eyes futtering open and close.

"I saw him leaving school with James a few hours ago." Well, that shut me up. I waited for her to continue, my arms crossed. Jo glanced at me and took a deep breath. "I don't know what came over them, especially since James despises Jett with a passion. All I heard before they took off in a red sedan was something about righting the wrong."

Red sedan? So someone else is working with them? I quirked an eyebrow as I questioned my ex, "But why would Jett be involved?"

"I'm not so sure. Something about him is different now. Have you not notice how he avoids crowds?"

I chuckled, "Won't he shy away from crowds to avoid our school reporters? I mean, I know I did a ton to get away from them."

"Yeah, but," Jo paused and looked thoughtful for a second, her fingers cupping her chin before her dead, brown eyes widened with sudden revelation. "Oh God."

"What?"

"I just remembered." She fumbled around, fishing her phone out of her pocket. Her fingers tapped away, the lockscreen of her and Jett fading before revealing a text. Jo was studying it, as though an answer would pop out, before reading through some other bundle pf words.

"Jo?"

She looked up and handed the phone to me. Without hesitation, I looked at what was on the screen and froze.

We're going to make things right again. I'm sorry for everything. You know I am. I'll prove it to you, even if it's a suicide mission. - Jett
