Chapter 10
Sound POV
Once Silent had left our table the conversation increased. It was easier to talk without his icy stare all the time. I had figured out a few things that had changed. Ian could see now, which I thought was a freaking miracle. Leo had a new power, he could project thoughts like a movie on the wall. Talia could shape shift, which I think she could always do but wasn't able to control it. Those were the only differences I had noticed at the moment. Other than Silent and Shadow's new powers which could just be added on to the ones they already have.
"What about you Sound? Where did you come from?" Ian asked dragging me from my thoughts.
"Instituted in New York." I exclaimed. Bright smiled twisting a piece of her shortened blonde hair
"Me too! I woke up there after having some weird surgery done or something." The group got quiet.
"We all had that." Leo whispered, "We all had the same surgery and yet I don't remember a damn thing past this last week." He paused, "I mean besides this asshole I call a brother I have to deal with, but still." Ian smacked him on the back of the head.
"You bet your ass you have to deal with me" Ian shot back a childish grin on his face. "But seriously we all had the same surgery and they wanted us all to be here together. None of us remember anything. You think they did this on purpose?"
"They did" I mumbled under my breathe, forgetting for a moment that Ian had super hearing. He sat up straighter.
"Wait what?" I sighed and pushed my tray forward on the table, folding my arms and placing my head on top of them.
"They set all this up. I'm the only one who remembers"
"Why do you only remember?" Talia asked pushing some brown hair out of her eyes.
"I wasn't suppose to remember but I do. They gave us food with medicine in It that made us all forget. We were a team, all of us, Shadow and Silent were our leaders."
"Hot head and ice boy were our leaders? Silent seems like he couldn't lead a pack of dog poop"
"Hey! Don't talk about my dad like that" Zack called out defensively, "My Daddy's a great leader." Zack and Ian bickered back and forth while I turned to the three people actually willing to listen.
"So how do you remember if they gave us all food with medicine in it?" Talia asked softly, Bright and Leo nodding in agreement.
"I saw everyone else passing out and I did the only thing I thought of. I hurled it all up and it worked."
"Seems a bit fishy. Wouldn't they notice if you didn't remember?" I shrugged looking towards Leo who took a long sip of his drink.
"I've dealt with whitecoats all my life there easy to fool." I sighed, "Plus there not all that there cracked up to be. They kept us in cages and barely fed us, tested lethal medicines on us. Messed with our brains and as you can all tell the major factor being they put Bird DNA in our blood. Which explains the wings."
"How can we believe you on all this?" Leo asked, "For all we know you could be lying about all of this." I looked at him then Bright, then Talia.
"You'll just have to trust me."
Shadow POV
I was beyond the point of exhaustion after 9 hours of running, but I kept going. I refused to give Silent the satisfaction of seeing me crack under some running. We were going about 25 miles an hour at a huge incline. Like running up the side of a mountain almost. It was ridiculous.
We had gotten over asking questions about 4 and half hours ago, but a few occasionally were asked as we thought of more. I figured out this guy isn't half bad. I mean he's sarcastic, an assholes 75% of the time, but he's got a good sense of humor and god his laughter sends chills down my spine.
I swear I knew this guy from somewhere before all this. I could tell we weren't enemies as I had once thought we were. We got along way to well to be enemies, plus why would Professor Ross and Talon have us working together if we hated each other?
"You tired yet?" Silent asked ripping my from my thoughts. I shrugged and kept moving.
"Yeah kinda" My legs felt like they were going to collapse out from under me the minute I stopped running.
"Same, feel like my legs are gonna fall off. Call it a draw?" He asked. I nodded and pressed the button between the treadmills that was suppose to stop the machine and record our scores. It didn't though. The treadmills increased speed and so did the both of us.
"The Hell?" Silent exclaimed. I opened my mouth to answer him but only gasped feeling something cold run threw my veins. Turning to look at the IV that was hooked to a chemical bag full of adrenaline to see that it was pumping the adrenaline into my veins fast.
"There pumping adrenaline into us!" My legs were burning now but I couldn't make them stop. "There not gonna let us stop are they?"
"There's only one way out" Silent exclaimed his breathing turning heavy, "The machine becomes faster as we do. Out run the machine and it breaks. Just power through it" I clenched my fists at my side and raised my speed. The speedometer on the treadmill increased.
26 MPH
30 MPH
35 MPH
40 MPH
45 MPH
Snap!
The treadmill screeched to a stop as something inside broke. I dropped to my knees breathing rapidly as I tried to calm down. My heart was beating so hard I swore it was gonna jump out of my chest.
The door behind us opened and I heard a pair of foot steps come towards us. I tried to make a move and stand but all I could do was stay put feeling to tired to move.
"Excellent speed" Talon mumbled reaching out to unhook me from the machines, "Problem solving in an extent situation, high adrenaline levels, I'm amazed your hearts didn't stop sending blood to your legs" I was shakily pulled to my feet and helped over to the table across the room. I slumped down in one of the chairs resting my head on the table.
Silent sat across from me looking about exhausted as I felt. He was barely keeping his eyes open but managed a glance in my direction.
"You two were amazing" Professor Ross exclaimed, "We'll get someone to help you both down to your rooms."
"No need" Silent muttered getting to his feet weakly. "I'll help Shadow to hers and I can get to mine on my own" Talon opened his mouth to protest but decided against it.
"Alright go ahead. Her rooms A11. Across from yours" He nodded and walked over. I stood and brushed him off when he tried to help me.
"I'm tired not dead." I hissed, "I can walk" He rolled his eyes but followed me as we walked across the building. Part way I felt like I was going to fall. In fact I was so tired I stumbled and did fall.
Only a pair of strong arms caught me and hoisted me up off the ground. All I remember was a black shirt before I passed out.
