you know you're not going to have a legend
you don't deserve one, what have you ever done?
legends are for the legendary.
you can hardly survive on your own
how do you expect to manage something
great?
.
somewhere along the line, becoming a legend
becomes nothing more than a fuzzy almost-thought
stored away in the back of your mind.
but you see all he's done, all he's doing,
he's making a difference.
(isn't that what you're aiming for?)
.
he becomes a guardian, a leader
and you allow yourself to be led,
despite the consequences,
despite wondering if it's worth it,
if you're closer to infamy
then fame.
.
you fear you've gotten in too deep,
that there's no coming up from this sinking ship now,
but what choice do you have but to continue on this path he's laid out for you?
he's your vessel, to carry you towards greatness
in whatever form it happens to be.
(how great do you expect to become?)
.
greatness, you've decided, is for the great.
not for people like you, no.
and not, apparently, for people like him, either,
because he's gone and so is your fickle faith.
but you still hope, still wonder
if maybe he'll come back, maybe you still have a chance to become legendary.
