Chapter 10 - Truth
Vergil's Prov
I caught Olwen on countless occasions trying to unlock her memories, however every attempt failed. I couldn't allow her to remember anything. She doesn't nor will she find out that it was I who gave her that memory back. I needed her to know, I couldn't allow him to take over.
I however, do wish I could give her her memories back. I miss our conversations, the time we spent together. however just like last time, she won't understand why I did what I did. For know it's best she was left in the dark.
I walked passed Olwen's bedroom door later that even to discover that she was not present. Had she run away again? No! she couldn't have, I would be alerted if she left the premises. I quickly but quietly made my way down stairs to look for her. No where! One last place.
Walking back upstairs and to the library did I relaxed when I caught site of her. She sat or rather slumped in the large chair as her head was resting on her hand, eyes shut. The book in which she had been reading had dropped to the floor as her other arm hung over the armrest.
I walked over to her and picked the book up, placing it on the table the way it had dropped before turning to give her my attention. Disgust crossed me features before I covered it up as I took note of her scar. I didn't intend to hurt her so badly when I took her memories from her. I looked away and turned my attention to the book, turning it over to see what page it had landed on.
My eyes widen when I caught sight of the page. Quickly snapping it shut, I heard a yelp as I darted to face Olwen, "I do apologise, I did not mean to wake you," I spoke as I watched her relax her breathing. I placed the book back on the table.
"It's ok," she spoke but I knew she lied.
I sighed as she looked away from me to stare out the window, "Olwen, don't lie to me please,"
"I'm fine," she responded sternly giving me her attention once more.
"Olwen," I almost shouted at her. Her eyes widen in shock as I'm sure she felt much like a child being ridiculed for doing something wrong.
Her crossed her arms across her chest in a huff before turning to face the window fully, blocking me out. She had recently taken to this route when she didn't want to talk. It's good to see her personality come back. When I found her that day she was someone else entirely, most likely from not knowing who she was, or anything else was for that matter. Slowly, however, she is coming back, she becoming the young women that stood strong by my side.
"Vergil?" I heard Olwen speak, still looking out the window.
"Yes, Olwen?" I questioned.
She hesitated before speaking, "Can I have my question?"
"Of course," I replied to which she turned to give me her full attention. I took a seat on the chair opposite her as I waited for her question.
A few minutes passed before she spoke again, "Am," she breathed, "Am, I. I." She looked out the window, confusion spreading across her features as she struggled to ask the question.
"Olwen," I grabbed her attention, "You can ask me with confidence the question you wish to be answered." she nodded before gulping.
"Am," she tried again, "Am I human?" my eyes widen when she asked this. Does she know? No. She can't know, she wouldn't have asked in the first place.
"Now why you would think you're not human?" I asked avoiding her question.
"Vergil please," she whined as she slightly jumped on her chair in an impatient gesture.
"Yes," I breathed, "you are human,"
"Then why is it my eyes change colour?" she threw back at me. I looked out the window before answering.
"It's common for eyes to change colour depending on the lighting,"
"Don't mess me Vergil," she screamed at me standing up in frustration. I looked at her stunned. The only other time she shouted out at me was when she had a lead to something and I ignored her.
I held up my hands in submission before standing myself, "If you cannot adorn a straight head then this conversation is over. Please return to your room," I said before leaving.
"NO!" she screamed back at me but I continued walking. I heard her huff and something was thrown as wind shot pass me, causing me to stop.
I turned to turn at her, her chest heaved up and down in anger as rage radiated off of her tiny being. "I brought you into my home. I get repaid by having you chuck stuff at me?" I questioned.
"Then answer my god damn question," she shrieked.
"I already told you, eyes changing colour is natural for a human depending on light." I turned to face her completely noting the lack of the presence of the book on the table. So she tried to hit me with the book?
"Really?" she cried as I nodded, "Then I guess it's natural as well for ones iris to vanish completely?" her breathing continued to be laboured as she screamed at me. Her skin had also taken to the colour red due to the anger she was reflecting.
"You read the book I'm presuming," I questioned as she nodded. Most likely too light headed from her screaming to verbally answer me. "I wish I could say ignore it, but," I raised a finger, "If memory serves me correct then you will always dwell into finding the answers," I curled my hand into a fist before dropping it down to my side.
I watched her relax herself before I continued to explain any further details. Not that i wouldn't to disclose this information but she had researched this, otherwise she wouldn't have asked me. I picked at my brain to try and find a way out of this situation. Then again if she found out about her abilities and as long as I trained her then this could benefit me.
"You Olwen, are a physic, Human, but with abilities,"
"I talk to ghost?" she slumped, disappointed with the answer.
"No," I breathed, "You can communicate with the living through one's mind,"
"A mind reader?" she gapped.
"It's a bit more complicated than that," I paused, "remember when I returned home in a much ... distorted state," she nodded, "well, how did you heal me?"
"I," she touched her head with her finger, "I touched my head with yours," she stopped short as she remembered.
"Yes Olwen, you can enter one's mind and see what they are seeing, what they are hearing and what they are thinking."
She looked to her feet before looking back at me, "Does that mean I may be able to control them?"
Bingo! "Yes Olwen, but before you lost your memories, you were trying to prefect this," I walked over to her before placing my hand on her shoulders, "You were able to control small animals for just under a minute,"
I saw her smile before she looked behind me.
"What is it that you want?" I asked my maid, annoyed that she would interrupt me.
"I do apologise Master Vergil," I did not need to look at her to know she bowed before continuing, "We have an unexpected guess and refuses to leave,"
"Did you catch who this individual was?" I asked further annoyed.
"He called himself Dagda sir,"
I turned to give her my full attention, "So he has finally decided to make an appearance," I clapped my hands together in fulfilment before looking at Olwen who had walked to my side, "Olwen?"
"Yes Vergil?" she spoke, looking up at me.
"Would you like to join me?" I replied placing a hand on her shoulder.
"Yes," she gleamed as her eyes sparkled. I smirked in response. Perfect. My plan could fall into place after all.
