Trae's father immediately stood up. "Don't move." He whispered as he quietly walked to the door of the room. He opened it just a crack and peered through the small hole it gave him. He gently closed it again before walking over to us again. "I don't think it knows we're here." He whispered.
Just then I heard the ravager screech in what sounded like pain, there were a few semi audible grunts and bangs before the ravager stopped. Nobody moved. Everyone was holding their breath.
"Mom? Dad?" A voice called out into the house.
Both parents immediately jumped up and ran downstairs. I followed slowly to see Trae standing in the entryway, both his parents hugging him to death. Crow was standing nearby, he appeared to be wiping his claws off on the dead ravager body.
I walked downstairs and looked at what was going on. "Whats going on outside?" I asked Crow.
He looked at me for a second before relying. "Only a handful of ravagers got in. Zarine has quite the defensive system so finding them wasn't too hard. This was one of the last one if I was correct."
"Why were there so many body parts outside?" I asked, afraid to even glance out the window.
"The ravagers cause fear like that, it's how they make hunting easier. Scared prey makes stupid mistakes." Crow then paused for a second. "Like going outside."
I dipped my head in shame. I was only alive through sheer luck. If a good number of ravagers got into the city then I would've surely been dead.
"Trae why are you here? Why didn't you stay in the school?" I heard his father ask. I looked over to see their hug had ended.
"I needed to see if you were ok. So I asked Crow if her could take me here." Trae said. "He told me ravagers weren't really a huge problem to him so he did so."
Crow simply nodded at the parents when they turned to look at him. He then turned to the door and opened it. "I have more hunting to do, I would advise staying inside until the guards come knocking."
I quickly grabbed hold of Crow's tail before he took flight. "I want to come." I said assertively.
Crow looked at me, studying me. He then nodded. "If you must."
I didn't even look back at Trae as Crow and I left, I couldn't be in that house with him. Not after what happened.
Crow and I flew over the city, pretty much all of the guard were flying around in their squads sweeping the city. Checking every single part of this last stronghold to make sure it was once again safe from all monsters.
"How did they get in?" I asked Crow.
"I'm not the one to ask. I was in school, remember?" Crow asked, looking at me.
"I just assumed you'd know… Since you know everything." I said with a sigh.
"I don't know everything." Crow said, looking ahead once again. "Just most things."
After 30 minutes of just lying aimlessly Crow started to fly towards the ground. So I followed him. He landed and looked at me. "It's safe. You should go back home."
I nodded. "Thanks for letting me come with you. I couldn't be in that house."
"I know." Crow said before walking away.
I flew back to my house and landed right outside of the door, which was wide open. Must've forgotten to shut it when I left. I thought as I walked inside and shut the door. I sighed and walked into the kitchen, all the stress making me hungry. I walked into the kitchen and nearly screamed, gasped, and fainted all at the same time. Digging into my pantry was a ravager, but this ravager was young. Like a child. I took a step back, and promptly fell on my butt. The ravager's head darted to look at me, it gave off a weak growl, trying to scare me away from it so it could eat.
I stood up when I saw its teeth, it had barely any, and the ones it had were too small to puncture my scales. I actually grinned seeing it try to intimidate me, it was actually cute. It went back to eating its food. Well my food. I looked over the ravager, finally able to know what they actually looked like. The creature had 6 legs which, I would assume it would have longer claws when it grew up seeing at how small this child's was. The body looked surprisingly smooth, I took a step forward and the ravager's head darted in my direction. It hissed and a bunch of small spines on its body flared up. Now its body didn't look so smooth. Its head kinda resembled that of a dragon, minus the horns. It was a black color. All things considered, it didn't look that dangerous. Maybe I could get the guards… They could probably finally be able to study a live specimen. But as I continued to look over the ravager I just couldn't bring myself to do that. Then I made the worst decision of my life. "I'm going to keep you."
