Ch.10
"Wait, I don't understand," Vanellope shouted. "What does my dad have to do with this?"
"Your father has everything to do with this. Any criminal would take a king and hold him hostage," Vanilliana pointed out. "What kind of villain wouldn't hold a monarch under hostage?"
Vanellope sighed and paced around, clutching the side of her head. "No, no! This can't be happening to me, not now! First dad forbids me from leaving the castle, the gentleman of my life has been kidnapped, and he and my father are kidnapped by a psycho! Why did this have to happen?" Vanellope turned to Vanilliana, tears cascading down her face rapidly. "Why did you choose me to be this hero, huh? Why me? Why not some other royal girl? What's so special about me?"
"Because you're my ancestor, Vanellope. It's your duty to find Randy's descendent. This is what you were prepared to do-"
"Prepared?! I wasn't prepared for any of this!" Vanellope interrupted. "I would have never gotten in this is mess if you haven't given me this stupid gem!"
"And what was I supposed to do? Huh? Let our game fall into the pit of doom? Let every innocent person die? If I didn't give it to you, this game wouldn't even be standing!" Vanilliana argued.
Vanellope panted heavily and glared at her. "Well if you care so much, you save the game! You're the creator of the Pink Sugar Crystal, so you do it!"
"Even if I did make it, it's impossible! I'd have to be alive to use it. Besides, I'm powerless!"
"No, you're not!"
"Yes, I am! I gave up all my powers to keep Randy alive!"
Vanellope looked at Vanilliana in shock, not saying anything. Vanilliana sighed and turned her back on the ravenette girl, her eyes fixed to the ground. "After the battle with the dark demon, everything was perfect. I got the guy of my dreams, the kingdom was safe, and nothing could change it… or so I thought." Vanilliana explained. "Randy was soon cursed, and none of the wizards and magicians could save him. They said if the curse consumes Randy's body, he'll die. So there was one thing left for me to do: I used all my powers to transfer Randy into his sword, which put him into an eternal slumber."
"What happened to you?" Vanellope asked after a moment of silence.
Vanilliana didn't answer right away. She continued to stare at the ground. Finally, she turned around and looked at Vanellope, letting Vanellope see the dry tear stains on her face. "After I encased Randy in his sword, I used the last of my powers to hide the Pink Sugar Crystal. Even though I knew I did the right thing, I felt incomplete without Randy. I cried out of loneliness for many nights. I guess you could say that I died of a lonely heart." With that, Vanilliana broke down into tears, wrapping her arms around her tightly. All the anger that boiled inside Vanellope subsided, and had a sympathetic look on her face.
"So the sword that Rancis has… Randy's in there?" She questioned.
Vanilliana nodded looked at Vanellope sadly. "If we found Randy's sword, then you could sing the incantation that breaks the spell, releasing Randy from the sword and awakening him from his sleep. That's why I wanted to find his descendent so much. I'm sorry I didn't tell you sooner, Vanellope." Vanellope shook and smiled at the young apparition.
"No… I'm the one who's sorry. I should have never yelled at you," she said. "It's just… there's something about Rancis that makes me feel, well, special. And I got so caught up in that, I forgot about what was going around me. I really am sorry, Vanilliana."
Vanilliana smiled and sniffed. "You must really like Rancis, huh?" she asked. "I can tell you like him. Vanellope, the Pink Sugar Crystal is a powerful gem, and can be used for many things. But if anything, it can create miracles. If you truly love Rancis, then the Pink Sugar Crystal will surely respond." Vanellope stared at the ground for a while, then looked up and smiled at her.
"Thank you, Vanilliana. Again, I'm really sorry."
"It's okay. All is forgiven."
The two sighed and sat down on the porch steps. Vanellope looked up and frowned when she saw a mirage of Rancis smiling at her from the sparking sky. She sighed and looked at her feet. "Dad was right. I wasn't ready for this," she murmured. "Dad always told me not to go over the castle walls, but I did anyways. He told me I wasn't ready or what was outside. If I would have listened none of this would have happened. Everything that happened wasn't in the game plan."
"Vanellope, you don't need a game plan for all this. This isn't the NBA, or the NFL, or the MLB. Players like that need game plans, not you," Vanilliana said. "Don't even try to deny it, Vanellope. Rancis was the best thing that ever happened to you. And you were going to go against your dad's words at some point. And if you're madly in love like you are now, then it was all worth it."
Vanellope smiled and nodded, chuckling a bit. "I guess you're right." Vanilliana smiled and raised an eyebrow. "'Guess?' You know darn well that I am right!" she exclaimed. The two laughed and stared at the stars for a while.
"You know what I don't get?" Vanellope said. "Turbo wanted to get to me, right? If that's the case, why didn't he kidnap me when he had the chance? Why the other racers, and my father included?"
"Their his bait to draw you in. The racers I'm sure their bait, but there's two reasons why Turbo could have kidnapped your dad. One: You're his daughter, so he must have figured that you will do anything to save your dad. Two: Turbo may want to finish up your dad for good, like he did fifteen years ago but failed."
Vanellope looked at Vanilliana in confusion. "Wait- what?" Vanellope said. "What are you talking about? What does my dad has to do with Turbo?"
Vanilliana looked at Vanellope for a while, not saying anything. "He never told you, did he? The real reason why he won't let you outside the castle?" Vanilliana said. When Vanellope shook her head, Vanilliana continued. "Fifteen years ago, you were born, and the king was so happy to have a baby girl. The whole kingdom celebrated, except one: Turbo. He wanted to rule the game, so he tried to kill you and your dad so he could rule. He didn't succeed, and mysteriously disappeared. Your dad was afraid that Turbo would come back, so he swore to himself that he would keep you safe, no matter what the cost was… even if it meant secluding you from the world."
Vanellope stared at Vanilliana in shock, her eyes widened. "He seriously didn't tell you, did he, Vanellope?" Vanilliana asked. Vanellope shook her head, a few tears sliding down her face. "So after all these years, he was trying to protect me. He did all that just to keep me safe, and I didn't listen to him. Mod, I'm the worst daughter ever!" she scolded herself.
Vanellope her face in her hands, shaking her head. "If I knew sooner, I would have never disobeyed him. He probably hates me by now," she mumbled. Vanilliana frowned and looked at Vanellope sternly. "Now you listen to me, Vanellope. King Candy loves you with all his heart. He did what he did because he can't stand seeing the most precious thing in his life disappear," she lectured. "I've been watching over you for a really long time, and from what I saw, he cares about a lot. More than anything. So you made a little mistake. If you think something as stupid as this will ruin the father-daughter relationship you two have, then you're wrong. I guarantee you he cares about his little girl more than his most prized trophies. He loves you, Vanellope. Don't you ever doubt that."
Vanellope looked at Vanilliana and gave her a small smile. "You really think so?" she asked meekly. Vanilliana smiled and rubbed her shoulder. "Nothing is more important than his little vanilla bean." She teased. Vanellope smiled and nodded. "Then I know what I'm going to do: I'm going to rescue the gang and fight off that Turbo jerkhead. And then, I'm going to confess my feelings to Rancis and apologize to my dad."
"That's the spirit, Vanellope! But how will you find Turbo's secret hideout?" Vanilliana asked.
"I'm pretty sure Gas and Oil took Randy's sword when they snatched Rancis. If I can track down the sword's location, then that's where we'll find the others," Vanellope explained.
Vanellope closed her eyes and began to focus on her powers. Her brooch lit up illuminously and a soft pink glow shimmered around. Vanellope's eyes shot open, glowing white. "I pinpointed the sword's location to the abandoned castle, deep within the Black Licorice Forest," she reported. With a flash, she changed her outfit into a black kimono, black leggings and her usual black boots, with a black cotton mouth mask was on her face, a black bandana tied around her forehead and black leather fingerless gloves. She turned to Vanilliana and looked at her determinedly, her eyes returning back to normal.
"Are you coming?" Vanellope asked.
"I'll catch up with you. I fear that Turbo will suspect my presence. But you go on," she said.
Vanellope nodded and turned her back on the ghost princess. She rocketed into the sky, leaving a gust of wind behind her, and set course to the Black Licorice Forest. A mirage of Rancis and her father flashed momentarily in front of her eyes, then disappeared. Vamellope blinked twice and narrowed her eyes. "I'm coming, you two. Hang on tight. I'm going to finish something that should have been done with for ages now," she muttered, blasting forward into the sky.
In the Black Licorice Forest, past the gnarly-looking black and white candy cane trees, was a dark, gloomy castle, and two guards were guarding the front doors. "Yo, so tell me about your date with Nicki," One said. The other guard smirked and rubbed his neck.
"Later, bro," he said.
The first guard shook his head and prompted his hand on his waist. "You've been telling me that all day. C'mon, no one is crazy to come out here, and you promised me you'd tell me all about it," he said. "Come on, bro. We're good. So tell me." The other guard looked around, then turned to other guard.
"Okay, so I first took Nicki to see the movie Chuckie, 'cause you know how much of a cute scardy-cat she is. She kept cuddling up with me, and I'm like 'Aw, yeah, boy!' So after the movie, we went to the arcade to play some games, and-"
A loud rustling of trees interrupted the guards' conversation. The two looked around, suspicious. "Did you here something?" One guard asked. The other nodded his head, and continue to scan the area, when he saw a figure run in the distance..
"Yo, did you see that?" he said.
"Yeah. Yo, I don't like this, dude. I'm getting bad vibes out of this," the other said.
They turned around to head back into the castle, when large rock candy shards blocked their path. They stared at the hard rock and looked behind their shoulder to see Vanellope emerge from the shadows. The guards looked at each other and confronted her, holding their spears in front of them.
"You there! You have no business here!" they said.
"Just shut up!" Vanellope exclaimed.
Vanellope charged at them and grabbed one of the guard's arms, flipping him over her shoulder and causing him to collide into the other guard. The two crashed into the ground, groaning and crying out in pain. Vanellope froze then into icy statues with her ice breath, then turned around and ran into the castle. She ran down the corridor and looked around. She saw some cobwebs, and a small chocolate spider. She shivered and came to a halt.
"Okay, Vanellope. You're doing good. Now all we need is to find the dungeon. But where is it?" she mumbled under her breath.
Vanellope got down on one knee and pressed her hand against the chocolate swirl marble floor. Once again, she glowed brightly and her eyes turned white. A mental picture appeared in front of her eyes and revealed to her how to get to the dungeon. Vanellope snapped out of her trance and got back up.
"This way," she said, making a right.
She went the same way the vision had showed her where to go. It wasn't long until she found the door to the dungeon. She entered and ran down the dungeon steps and down the steps and ran down the hallway. "Ugh, how do I know which is there door?" she groaned. She stopped to take a deep breath and stretch out her legs. Then, out of nowhere, she felt a heavy force shove her viciously to the wall. Vanellope got up and saw that another guard had confronted her. Vanellope growled and charged at him, swinging a few punches. Vanellope easily deflected his punches and brutally kicked him in the stomach. He fell back and stumbled to the ground, but quickly got back on his feet.
"Ugh, I don't have time for this!" Vanellope groaned.
She charged at him, but he turned her around and got her in a headlock. Vanellope elbowed him hard in the guts, making the guard double over in pain, and releasing Vanellope. Seeing how he's vulnerable, she kneed him in the jaw pretty hard and punched in right across his face. The guard now lied on the ground, now unconscious. Vanellope panted and continued to run down the hallway. Meanwhile, in a dungeon cell, the racers and their king were moping around, sitting around without a care in the world. Rancis was the only one who had faith.
"Hello? Anyone out there? Hello?" he called out. "Please, someone help!"
"Rancis, give it up! No one is coming for us!" Taffyta exclaimed.
"We've been here for two hours. We're gonna die here!" Swizzle added.
"No we're not! Someone is coming to get us. I can tell-"
"Rancis!" Taffyta interrupted. "Get it into your head. No one is coming for us. Not now, not tomorrow, and certainly not ever! Why are you still trying when you know we have no chance?" Rancis stared at Taffyta for a while, then punched the cell doors. "Because the girl I love is out there, and she's in danger. I swore to her that I'd protect her, but here I am," he answered. "For someone who's the descendent of Randy Nuttingham, I proved to be a failure."
"Chotto matte," Minty Sakura chimed in. "You mean you're the descendent of Randy Nuttingham? The Randy Nuttingham?!"
Rancis nodded. "How do you know?" Minty Sakura asked. Rancis smiled a bit and leaned his back on the door. "Vanellope told me herself." He said simply. The king was staring out the window forlornly when he heard Rancis' response. He turned around and stared at Rancis. "So you mean to tell me that you're the gentleman that my daughter has been sneaking off to see?" he demanded.
"You've been seeing the princess?" Swizzle asked. "How long has this been going on?"
"We've been hanging out ever since the ball," he said. "But your majesty, please understand that I will do everything in my power to keep her safe. I will put my entire life just to keep her safe, I will do that. Believe me, I will. Because you daughter makes me very happy, and I care about her a lot. I just wanted you to know that."
King Candy was stunned by Rancis' response and was about to respond, when a loud banging interrupted him. Everyone turned to see the door crack all over, then exploded and flew off its hinges, the small pieces flying everywhere. Everyone coughed and looked up to see Vanellope standing at the doorframe. "Anyone call for a rescue?" she said. Rancis was the first to react. He ran over to her, pulled her into a bear hug and twirled her around. Vanellope blushed at this, but didn't say anything. When Rancis finally put her down, Vanellope felt a bit dizzy. Rancis realized what he did and rubbed the back of his neck nervously.
"I-I'm sorry. That was, well… it's just that… you know," he mumbled, shyly.
Vanellope pulled down her mouth mask and smiled. "I know. I'm happy to see you, too," she giggled. Rancis blushed and turned to the racers, who were staring at her in shock. "Guys, this is Princess Vanellope. Vanellope, these are my friends," he introduced. Vanellope at them and waved.
"It's very nice to meet you all," she said.
"Th-the pleasure's all ours, your highness," Taffyta stammered.
Vanellope smiled at them and caught her father looking at her. She tried to say something but nothing came out. Sighing, she turned around and looked at Rancis. "Do you have to sword?" she asked. He shook his head. "The guard took it and put it in his scabbard," he said. Vanellope nodded and pulled up her mouth mask. "Let's go!" The group followed Vanellope to the dungeon, passing the unconscious guard. Rancis took his scabbard and took out his sword, then continued to escape. Vanellope led them out of the dungeon and screeched to a halt when they were confronted with a few guards.
"Let me take on these guys," Vanellope said, stepping up.
"Get them!" one guard yelled.
Vanellope immediately jumped into action and kneed a guard in his shins and punched his guts, pushing him into another guard, elbowing one in his guts and flipping him over her shoulder, and kicked one in jaw with her foot. More guards were coming in at the minute, and outnumbered Vanellope. "Guess I have no choice to resort to my powers," she mumbled. She took note of the candle sitting atop of Candlehead's head and concentrated her powers. The fire lit up brighter and made way towards Vanellope, intertwining around her.
"Candlelight blaze!" she yelled.
She help her arms up high, then brought them down, holding out her hands. The fire rocketed forward and lashed out on the soldiers, burning their skin. Vanellope levitated in the air and gleamed a light blue hue. "Super electric charge!" she shouted. Millions of blue electricity bolts shot out in many directions, electrifying the guards. Their screams filled the corridor, cracking many glass. Vanellope smirked at them and stopped electrocuting them. The guards' eyes were wide, and they glitched. Vanellope smirked and froze them with her ice breath, encasing them in a block of ice. Vanellope dusted off her shoulder and turned to to others. They all stared at Vanellope in astonishment, as if she had grew another head. King Candy's eyes practically bulged out of his skull. Rancis wasn't all that shocked. This wasn't the first time he saw her do something spectacular such as that. He smirked flirtatiously at her and raised his eyebrows. Vanellope answered with a giggle.
"H-how'd you do that?" Swizzle stammered.
"That was the coolest, most extreme thing I have ever seen," Gloyd added. "I'm so glad you came to rescue us."
Vanellope smiled and twirled her hair around her finger, landing in front of them. "Oh, just something I picked up," she said innocently. She winked at Rancis and walked down the corridor. "Come on. Let's go here." The group followed her, still in shock in what she had just done. Taffyta walked next to her and leaned in.
"So is it true?" She whispered.
"Is what true?" Vanellope whispered back, taking in the interior.
"About you and Rancis. You guys are dating, right?"
Vanellope felt her face heat up under her cotton mask, and looked away, not even bothering to give Taffyta an answer. "Ooooh, so you two are dating! For how long?" Vanellope rolled her eyes and stared at her feet. "We're not dating, but when this all blows out, I plan to confess to him," she said, loud enough for Taffyta to hear. Taffyta squealed and shoved Vanellope towards Rancis. Vanellope stumbled and held on to his shirt for support. The two looked at each and broke up their embrace, smiling nervously. Vanellope heard Taffyta and Candlehead sigh in disappointment, but chose to ignore. She continued to lead the others until they came to two grand doors. Hesitantly, Vanellope pushed open the door and they all walked in. The room would have been completely dark if it wasn't for the soft glow coming from Candlehead's candle.
"Vanellope, I don't like this," Rancis said.
"You're right. Something's not right," Vanellope agreed.
She took a few steps forwards, looking around warily, when a powerful blast of energy hit Vanellope. She screamed in pain and tumbled back, her body growing weak. Rancis caught her before she hit the floor and held her close. "Vanellope? Vanellope, can you hear me? Vanellope?!" he cried out. The light turned on and standing in front of them was Fangtana, who was smirking devilishly. Behind her, Gas and Oil cackled viciously.
"Well done, Fangtana. Very well done," Gas complimented her.
Rancis glared at them and growled. "You just don't know when to stop, do you?" he snapped. Fangtana scoffed and tossed her hair over her shoulder. "I don't know what you see in that royal glitch. You hanging out with her when you could be with me," she said, posing. Rancis narrowed his eyes at her.
"Sorry, but I don't date gothic vampire chics," he snapped
Vanellope stirred in his arms and pushed him off, getting back up. "That the best you got?" Vanellope spat. "It's gonna take more than that to knock me out." Vanellope summoned some energy bolts and threw them at Fangtana. Fangtana easily dodged them and shot a blast of energy at Vanellope. Vanellope glitched out of the way in time and glared at Fangtana. "Come on, garlic breath. Hit me with you best shot!" Vanellope shouted. Fangtana teleported and stood behind Vanellope, grinning wickedly.
"Be careful of what you wish for," she mocked with face concern.
Vanellope turned around just as Fangatana shot her with a more powerful dark energy beam, causing Vanellope to scream an ear piercing scream. It hurt so that Vanellope began to cry. Fangtana ceased fire and kicked Vanellope in the stomach. Vanellope fell back and lied on the ground unconscious. Fangtana walked towards to Vanellope, her eyes glowing red.
"Say goodnight, princess… forever," Fangtana cackled.
"Vanellope!" Rancis called out to her.
"Finish her! And take the Pink Sugar Crystal!" Gas ordered
Just as she was about to attack, Rancis came up to her and punched her right in the stomach. Fangtana doubled over and glared at Rancis. "You idiot! You're gonna regret messing with me!" she hissed.. Rancis held up his sword and glared at Fangtana.
"Bro, don't do it. You're gonna regret this," Swizzle said.
"You're gonna fight a vampire chic. She's more powerful than you, physically and supernaturally. You don't stand a chance," Gloyd added.
"You guys saw how Vanellope kicked those guards' butt. If she can do it so can I," Rancis said. "Besides, she's my everything to me, and I'd rather give up my life than to see the best thing that has ever happen to me die."
With that, Rancis charged at Fangtana, and the two broke into a fight. Fangtana summoned up her sword and clashed it against Rancis'. Gas and Oil watched Rancis battle Fangtana and cackled. "He is obviously stupid, brother," Gas snickered. "We both know that Fangtana is one of the best fighters here, and her powers are remarkably evil. No one could withstand it. He is obviously stupid."
"You're absolutely right, brother," Oil agreed. "The little weakling is no match for Fangtana. In fact, Fangtana, finish him off!"
Fangtana smiled wickedly and giggled under her breath. "With pleasure," she said. Fangtana dodged a swing from Rancis' sword and flew into the air. A dark aura lit up around her, and some sort of change took place. Fangtana's hair was longer and was all out in different directions, her nails got longer, and smiled to reveal her more sharper, more pointier fangs.
"Your annoying little girlfriend nearly ruined everything for us," she sneered. "But now, once I'm done disposing you, and your little gang, she'll be nothing but trash to us!"
Fangtana eyes glowed once again, and the energy around her turned into a huge silhouette of a bat.. "Midnight crisis burn!" she cried out. The silhouette flew towards Rancis such speed, and Rancis just stared at the shadow bat. Vanellope came to and slowly got up, moaning. "Hey, what happened?" she asked everyone. Her question was soon answered when, right in front of her, she saw Rancis get hit by Fangtana's attack.
"RANCIS! NOOOOOOO!" she screamed at the top of her lungs.
Rancis screamed out in pain, the attack burning his flesh. Her cracked an eye open and saw Vanellope, and gave her a forced smile and winked. When the attack finally sinked into his skin, he fell to the ground hard. Vanellope immediately got up and glitched over to his side, cupping the side of his face.
"Rancis? Rancis, talk to me? Rancis, please!" she cried out, tears forming in her eyes.
Rancis opened his eyes and smiled at her. He held her cheek and rubbed his thumb against it. "Vanellope, I'm sorry I was never prince you were looking for," he said. Vanellope shushed him and placed a finger on his lips, a smile on her face. "You're more than a prince than any guy here in this arcade," she replied. Rancis chuckled then moaned in pain.
"So this is it. This is how everything ends," he mumbled.
"Don't say that, please, you're gonna be fine. I'll do everything I can to save-"
"Vanellope."
Vanellope stopped ranting and looked right in the eye. "Yeah?" Rancis put her hand on top of hers and stared straight into her eye, panting heavily. He smiled at her and twirled her ponytail around her finger. "You were my dream," he confessed. Vanellope ripped off her mouth mask and stared right back at him. "And you were mine." Rancis smiled and closed his eyes, his body growing limp under her touch.
"Rancis? Rancis!" Vanellope yelled. When he didn't answer, the tears spilled down her face and she started to cry. "Rancis, no please! NOOOOOOOOOO!"
The racers all watched the saddening scene unfold. Some bowed their heads, some took off their hats. "I told him he didn't stand a chance," Gloyd mumbled, hugging Jubileena. "He didn't listen."
"He loved the princess so much, he actually died just to protect her," Swizzle said, taking off his beanie. "That takes guts to do that for someone you truly love."
Vanellope's tears spilled down her face and splashed onto Rancis' skin. She pressed her forehead and his and ran her hand through his hair. The locket brooch began to illuminate brighter than ever. Everyone has to shield their eyes from the bright light. Fangtana hissed as the light nibbled on her flesh.
"Eeeeeeeekkkkkkkk! What's happening?" She cried out.
"Brother, the time of her awakening has arrived!" Oil exclaimed.
"No, it can't be! Not now!" Gas replied.
Vanellope opened her eyes and saw Vanilliana smiling at her. "It's time, Vanellope. Time to show the world what you're really made of," she said. Vanilliana held out her hand, which Vanellope gladly accepted. A bright pink beam of light shot down on Vanellope, lifting her in the air. Vanellope closed her eyes, letting the warmth of the light surround.
'Words are coming out of my mouth,' Vanellope thought.
Taking a deep breath, Vanellope cried out in a loud, clear voice, "Sugar crystal power! Make up!" The room was filled with light, blinding everyone. Fangtana cried out in pain as the light continued to burn her. "No, stop! This light burns! And it's hurting my flawless complexion!" she complained. A beam of light rocketed towards Fangtana and smashed it right into her stomach. Fangtana shrilled out a scream of pain and withered away into ashes. The light soon died down and everyone stared at Vanellope in shock.
"No… it can't be," Gas gasped.
"She has awakened," Oil murmured.
Vanellope stood up and glared at Gas and Oil, her eyes filled with hatred. She was no longer wearing her ninja outfit; now she wore her mint green hoodie, her double layer reese's cup skirt, mismatched mint green, white and purple leggings, and black boots. She wore white gloves, a red choker, and on her hoodie was a white ribbon with the locket brooch pinned on it.
"The pretty guardian in a sailor suit, guardian of candy and racing… Sailor Vanellope!" she declared, striking Sailor Moon's all too familiar pose. "In the name of racing and everything sugary sweet, I will punish you!"
Rancis: What the heck?! You killed me!
