The Morning after

I was sitting in my room on the bed, thinking. With that act Shane pulled last night, no one is going to trust him. I think he sh-

A voice at my doorframe disrupted my thoughts,"So you don't trust him as much as you claim to." Doctor Banner stood at the frame of the door, using a hand to support himself on the doorframe. I knew he was talking about Shane.

"Oh...Doc...I uh..." I was still at a lost of words. I couldn't wrap my mind around a normal man turning into a 9 foot tall mass of green muscle in a matter of seconds. It was hard to look at him without thinking of his other half.

"I'm sorry if I caught you off gaurd...I can come back late-",he began to say but I waved my hand, dismissing the subject.

"No, no, no. Please, what's on yer mind?" I asked as I looked at him as if listening to him closely. He wrung his hands nervously as he leaned heavily on the wall. He stared at his hands before he looked up to me and said,"First off...I would like to apologize for last night. I let my emotions get in the way, making an already messy situation, messier."

He paused for a moment to collect his thoughts for what he would say next. In that time, I denounced his apology but he insisted that his remorse was given.

He finally looked at me with a grave face. He said,"Shane is becoming a problem..." He raised his hands slightly to show he meant no harm. "I do not want any trouble,...I think you and I both know that. And I also think of how aware you are of Shane's current state of mind. I am in no way thinking solely of my well-being but of everyone's in the group. I do not mean to over step my boundaries at all. I just need you to know that if Shane or anyone for that matter crosses my family like that again, I cannot be liable for what the Hulk will do."

he seemed out of place talking like this. He seemed nervous but very serious. His tone didn't have a shred of a threatening tone to it, yet it scared the shit outta me.

I said,"Well I will talk to Shane after I talk to Mr. Green." He smirked weakly,"Thank you, Rick."

Tony and I worked diligently out in the front yard. Steve walked past me with a load of logs in his hands. I politely said,"Hi, Steve. How are you?"

He did not stop nor did he look at me as he said,"I am fine." I was taken back by his tone and attitude. I looked back at Tony who was suppressing a laugh. "Was he being short with me?"

Tony laughed,"Congrats Doc you got on Cap's bad side. What did you do?" I started to say,"I didn't do anythi-" A gun shot cut through the air like a rusty knife.

My heart skipped a beat. I looked over to the barn and noticed that there was a crowd of people surrounding the barn. Stark and I gasped in unison. We bolted off towards the crowd.

I could see some people holding guns. The panic in me increased. When I got to the front of the crowd I inhaled violently.

Rick had a zombie by the neck and was in the process of leading it into the barn. He looked at me,"Look, Doc! I can explain!"

Anger boiled inside me. Actually, a wide range of emotions plagued me but it all came back to anger. It always came back to anger.

I turned and stormed back to the house, unable to put my anger into words. I felt betrayed and fooled. I had to calm myself before I even spoke to anyone else.

I thought about going after Bruce but I didn't want him to be even more pissed than he was. I glared at Rick. But I soon turned my attention to Shane. I said,"Shane, think about what you are doing. There could be a cure. Bruce and I...We are scientists. We can fix this. We can find a cure it isn't too late. We-"

He shoved me then, which landed me on my butt. He said,"There is no cure." He shot the two zombies that Rick and Mr. Greene had strung up. Mr. Greene sunk into himself.

Someone from the crowd screamed,"NO!" I jumped as the guts splattered on me. I didn't move as Shane opened the doors and the zombies rushed out. I was held in shock and was frozen.

Those who had guns shot them repeatedly. Time after time, I was splattered with guts and brains.

The last animated corpse walked out. There was a hesitation as a wail ensued from the back of the crowd. A woman with short grey hair clawed herself to the front of the group as she wailed. The corpse of what was once a little girl approached me. The corpse stopped in front of me. I stared at it and it stared back.

The next gun shot rung through me and the last bit of guts splattered onto my face. The corpse fell heavily on me and I screamed as I scrambled to get it off of me. I got to my feet and shook myself to get a hold of myself.

I tried to walk away as calmly as I could but as the swelling in my throat tightened, I took into a sprint. I felt my stomach retch and I threw up into the bushes. I cried as my stomach retched again.

This is Hell.
