Chapter 10: The Pain of the past
A small boy was running in complete darkness, he was panting and screaming for help. "Mom! Dad! Someone help me!" Something was chasing him, it melded with the darkness, yet it couldn't hide the smell of blood on it's body. The boy looked back and slammed into a wall, an invisible wall. He was able to look through the wall and saw Gary and Karin walking away. He pounded on the wall, yelling.
The creature crept up to him, the boy turned and then-
Ash woke up, drenched in sweat, he sat up and walked to the bathroom for a shower and a change of clothes. He left the bathroom and checked the clock to see it was 6 in the morning, he went outside wearing a white sleeveless hood, black shirt, blue jeans and running shoes with his earring on and his dog tags under his shirt. Ash put his hood up and walked around the school, not noticing the looks of fear he was getting. He stopped at a railing that over looked the town.
"Hey, Ash." Zazie said. Ash looked back and saw she was wearing a black skirt, red shirt, blue shoes and a pink braclet.
"Hey." Ash muttered, still fazed by his nightmare.
"What's wrong?" Zazie hesitated to put a hand on Ash.
"Nothing," Ash started walking. "I gotta go somewhere, later." Zazie followed him, trying not to be seen. She followed Ash to the Hospital where Ash's mom was being held.
"Hey, Debbie." Ash walked into an open elevator, when Zazie walked in. She looked an Ash expecting an awnser.
"You're not gonna leave, no matter what I say, aren't ya?" Zazie nodded. "Alright, but you aren't gonna like it." Ash pushed the button to the floor his mother was on and lead Zazie to her. Ash opened the door.
"Who's she?" Zazie was confused.
"That's my mom." Zazie inhaled, sharply and looked at Mrs. Ketchum, she was attached to several machines including a heartbeat moniter.
Zazie hesitated again, wondering what was wrong with her, nowadays. "What.. happened to her?"
"I made a mistake and she wound up like this." Ash sat down. "I come here whenever I have free time and talk to her about what's happening, like I'm trying to fix my mistake." Zazie put an arm around Ash. He made something between a chuckle and a sob. "Thanks, Zaz, I needed something like this." Ash stood up and hugged her. Zazie let out a squeak, getting a look from Ash. "did you just-"
"No!" Zazie was blushing bright red.
"Really, 'cause, I'm pretty sure..."
"I said no!" Zazie left, still blushing.
"Bye, mom and I'm glad you met Zazie, thought hearing her squeak was kinda odd." Ash and Zazie left the Hospital and went back to school where they met Gary, Karin, Negi, Asuna and Konoka. "Hey, guys!"
"Hey, Ash, what's up?" Gary asked.
"Nothing much, you?"
"Same." Gary said, thought Karin was chuckling.
"What?" Ash and Gary asked, Negi, Asuna and Konoka were confused.
"Gary, why aren't you bothered by the fact Ash is on date." Karin said, still chuckling. Gary and everyone, but Ash and Negi, took time to react and it was great, Gary put Ash in headlock, Asuna's jaw dropped so much it hit the ground, Konoka cheered for them and Zazie turned pink.
"Let go, let go, let goooo!" Ash chocked.
"How, answer me, how did you get a girlfriend, before me!?"
"Girlfriend," Ash and Zazie screamed. "S/he's not my boy/girlfriend!" Gary let go of Ash.
"Your not?"
"No!"
"Then why'd you say that?" Gary glared at Karin.
"I needed a good laugh." The teen boys were about to attack when...
"Proffesor Negi, what'cha doing?" The twins Fuuka and Fukima appeared, Fuuka was wearing the school's shirt, shorts, shoes and had her hair in pig tails, while Fukima also wore the same shirt and shoes, but was wearing a skirt and had her hair in buns.
"I want to see the rest of the school, but..." Negi started, but the twins cut him off.
"It's okay, we'll show you around the school." Fukima said.
"Just leave it to us, The Strolling Club!" Fuuka said.
"The Strolling Club?" Ash and Negi parroted. "What/Da is/heck's that?" Everyone, but Gary, Karin ad Negi looked at Ash.
"Oh, it must be a club for strolling." Ash nodded in agreement whit Negi.
"N-no, Professor Negi, strolling is a sport that even has a world champion, it's a hardcore sport for professionals!" Fumika looked surprised at what her twin was saying, while the Gary, Karin, Asuna and Konoka were looking at each other, Zazie was standing there with a blank face and Ash was trying, horribly not to laugh. "It's where the strolling pros aim to be the best in the world! It's a no-holds barred battle of strolling techniques in the stroll called the Sahara 'Death Hike'!" Ash was slapping the ground. "People DIE each year because they can't withstand it!"
'Is she serious?" Everyone, but Negi, thought and Ash was turning blue from holding his breath.
"Yaho, Professor Negi!" A girl in a basketball jersey and shorts walked up to the group carrying a basketball.
"Hello, Yuuna." Negi and Karin said.
Scene Break
Fuuka and Fumika took Negi to a school gym with Ash. Gary, Karin and Zazie following. "This is a Gym for middle-schoolers only, for 21 of the physical exercise clubs have students swaeting it out here, all the time."
"Our class is really good at volleyball and dodge ball, right?" Fuuka asked.
"We're good at Aerobics and other lady-like activities, too, but we're pretty bad at basketball."Fumika explained, getting Yuuna mad.
Negi and Gary sighed, "It's nice to see girls who are good at sports." They said, Negi meant this as a teacher, Gary's meaning was more... down stairs.
"Hey, Karin, why don't you join the basketball team, you've got a great jump." Ash said, laughing.
"I'm sorry, Yuuna, but Ash has a strange sense of... ?" Karin felt something crawl up her arm and when she look at it, it was a huge, hairy spider. The girls (and Negi) screamed and Karin jumped like ten feet up. Ash was laughing up a storm, while Zazie was looking at the fake spider.
"I told you she had a great jump!" Ash said, in between laughs. *WHAM* *CRASH* *POW* Ash was now battered, bruised and hanging upside down off the balcony. Gary and Zazie pulled him up and followed the others to an indoor pool.
"We're also good at swimming, 'cause our class' Arika is amazing!" Fumika explained and a few moments later the entire swimming club ambushed Negi.
"Lucky..." Gary muttered, while Ash was trying to get to Negi. The twins continued taking the group outside.
"The outdoor athletics club is over here," Fuuka started. "There's a lot of people, so there's often arguments over courts." Fuuka decided to shoe them the cheerleaders. Negi was blushing, while Gary...
"I thank you, almighty God, for giving me life!" He cried, getting looks from Karin. Ash and Zazie were with the track and field team, Zazie with the High jump and Ash on the hurdles. Ash was laughing, like a kid.
When Ash stopped, he was laughing even harder. "Thanks for that, it ws fun!" Ash's hood was down and he had a toothy grin, the track girls just giggled. Ash went to Zazie who leaped over the high bar and landed gracefully. "That was incradible, Zaz." Zazie blushed a little. "Let me try!" Ash took a pole, ran a good distance, leaped hit the bar and landed face first. Zazie ran to him, but noticed Ash was laughing. Zazie couldn't help, but laugh as well. "You've got a great laugh."
Zazie blushed even more. "Thank you."
"Hey, you two lovebirds," Gary mocked. "Once you're done making out, let's go to the cafeteria." Gary and Karin left.
"Why don't ya come over here and say that to my face, come on, Zaz." Ash ran after Gary and Karin, Zazie followed blushing so hard steam was coming of her face.
Gary, Karin, Fuuka and Fukima were eating ice cream, Zazie was eating a salad and Ash was eating... Everything. "Don't eat so much, Ketchum," Zazie stated. "You won't fit into your tights." Ash spat out the food in his mouth and started coughing. Everyone else started laughing at Ash.
After lunch the twins took them to some hills, to a giant tree. "Wow!" Ash said, his eyes shining. He walked up to it, mesmerized by it and Zazie followed. "They say this tree was here long before the academy was built, everyone calls it the 'World Tree'." Fuuka explained.
"No kidding, it looks like the one in Dragon Quest." Gary said.
"I like Final Fantasy better." Karin stated.
"What about you, Ash, Dragon Quest or Final Fantasy?" Gary and Karin looked around, not noticing Ash and Zazie were on the trees branches. Ash was looked really relaxed
"You know, Zaz," Ash started blushing and put his hood up. "Me and my mom used to... have a garden and we had a lot of plants in it."
"Really, you liked gardening?" Zazie asked, surprised.
"Well, I was a kid, when we had it and sometimes, we..." Ash looked sad and took out his dog tags. "Hey, Zaz, remember when you found my dog tags?" Zazie nodded Flaring up again. "Well, these belonged to my dad."
"Y-your dad?"
"Yeah, he was an American and my mom's Japanese, so when he went to war, I got picked on alot and when a soldier, a friend of dads came he..." Ash wiped his eyes.
"Why are you telling me this?"
"Because I trust you, even if we don't know each other that well, I still trust you." Ash put his hand on Zazie's. Zazie's lips started inching towards Ash's, when... Gary showed up, dangling from a branch, playing romantic music.
'Can you fell the love tonight?' Karin sang, back on the ground.
"WHAT THE HECK!" Ash yelled.
"Just setting the mood, you know helping a brother out." Gary chuckled. Ash gonna kick him down, until Zazie grabbed his arm and kissed him on the lips. Karin passed out, Gary lost his grip and bounced off the branches on the wway down and hit a rock, Fuuka and Fukima squealled and Negi was staring.
Zazie broke the kiss. "Bye, Ash." She said, then jumped from tree branch to tree branch until she landed softly on the ground and walked away. Ash climbed down blushing and stuttering.
"Zaz-Zaz didididi I-I-I..." Ash stumbled back home, but Fuuka stopped him.
"I forgot!" She screamed.
"What?" Gary, Karin and Negi asked.
"The legend that if someone with unrequited love confesses here that love will come true!" Gary, Karin and Negi were shock, but Ash was still walking and on the road to the dorms Zazie was smiling and humming to herself.
