Chapter 9: The Average Day
The sun slowly peaked out from the horizon, small beams of light shooting out and surfing across the water, creating a beautiful glow in it's wake that left what one would assume was an image of diamonds just floating casually on it's surface. The beams of light continued lighting up the world behind them, tugging the sun up from below as they continued in their pursuit to wake everything on the Earth from it's sleep.
They eventually came to the giant T shaped tower where five titans rested after what they could only describe a failure that would be hard to recover from. Nevertheless the beams of light shined through the towers reinforced window into each Titan's room, waking those who wished to keep sleeping either from the previous three nights events or because they were just to tired to actually get up. Groans of disapproval or yawns from those who received the rest they needed echoed throughout the tower before they slowly dimmed to silence and each went upon their daily routines, hopefully to keep things as normal as they could.
Two forms arrived into the tower's main room where one went into the kitchen, grabbing a kettle and preparing her usual tea. As another unfamiliar one to the Tower's residency went to the repaired windows, gazing out quietly at the city stretched out before him, slowly lighting up upon the suns rise.
"I'm not ever sure if I will bore at witnessing this great spectacle." He softly sighed as the girl spared him a slow glance before putting her kettle on to heat up and taking a seat in the chair. She wasn't one for making small talk, but that was a long time ago and she had come out of her shell enough to continue conversations and convey some of her feelings on things without causing any damage to any around her. Plus it would probably make her feel better to start talking to the young warrior, especially after her antisocial behavior to him the past few days.
She moved her glance back over to the older teen standing at the window, arms crossed behind his back as the light reflected off his form, giving him the striking appearance of a well crafted statue, made in memorial of a great hero. She couldn't lie that he did hold a very attractive form, and add that with the way he was standing. It would turn any normal girl to mush and probably on the floor at the sight, but she was far from being a 'normal' girl.
"Though I've seen it over a million times...I will admit that it does hold an unnatural beauty around this time that not even I can bore of."
He made a slight noise in agreement, slowly letting a smile emerge on his face at getting her to speak with him especially after her cold attitude since his arrival, but he knew not to dwell on it seeing as he wasn't one to hold grudges against people.
He prepared to respond when three pairs of footsteps emerged into the common room, cutting through the little moment of peace they were having together. "Mornin Rae-Rae." A boisterous voice echoed causing the young teen to laugh, and the girl to roll her eyes at his usual antics.
"Good morning to you as well Cy, you rested well I presume?" She looked up to the robotic teen who gave her thumbs up and appeared in the kitchen, dawning his coking hat.
"You better believe it! Now, what'll everyone be having? Bushido, you are definitely getting the full Cyborg helping, especially after skipping out last time, you promised." He grinned to the group who couldn't help but to not be sad with the older teen keeping such a sunny disposition.
Bushido looked back from his position and walked over to the table, taking a seat next to Raven and shrugging with a small bow. "I'm a man of my word. And I have been curious of the so called, 'Amazing Cy's cooking.' which every titan seems to have a love for."
"The bees knees compared to the real thing my friend." He crossed his arms triumphantly already pulling out ingredients for the meal.
"Just a few waffles." Raven replied, moving to get her ringing kettle and pouring herself a cup.
"Rob? Star? You want in on this?" Cyborg looked up to the two as Starfire flew up beside him already naming what she wanted to eat.
"I'm good, I actually have a meeting with Batman again." Robin replied as all eyes went to him in question, or Bushido's case, surprise.
"Again? I thought he said he wouldn't be calling you back for about a week or so." Cyborg set his stuff down, confused that they called so quickly.
During their search for Beastboy, they ran into a few members of the Justice League, who were on the search for the Wonder Twins, who mysteriously disappeared the same night that Beastboy did. After sorting through that, on their return home, they were visited by Batman who was surprisingly on the search for Beastboy, which he didn't disclose exactly why, except that a few villains had also gone missing which brought the conclusion of something strange going on that linked all the disappearances. With that information, a small alliance was created that had them all scouring the earth in search for the missing characters, or act least a clue as to where they may have been taken.
"Same here, but he must have found something out, and we can't miss the chance of any important information so I'm heading out...alone" The three titans were familiar with his solo missions and knew how important he treated them so there was no room to try and argue him out of it. Starfire flew over and gave him a lingering kiss which he returned, Cyborg making disgusted faces in the background as he went back to making the morning meal.
"Please return safely." She was already edgy with Beastboy gone, and having another teammate disappear on her. It just didn't sit right in the pit of her stomach.
Robin grabbed her hand and gave her a reassuring squeeze. "I promise." He smiled, watching as her face glowed in that way he could never get tired of seeing. They remained like that for a while, before Bushido cleared his throat, bringing the two out of their little world, both pulling away in embarrassment.
"Err, I'll see you guys soon and make sure to only call me if it's a code red."
"Yeah yeah, get moving before old Bats gets worried about his favorite little bird." Cyborg cooed, Robin shooting a small glare at him before sending his last goodbye and walking out.
Raven watched the exchange, her gaze on Robin to the point of his departure as if she were trying to analyze him. She hadn't told any of the Titans of the exchange that she witnessed between him and X the past four nights ago, not wanting to unbalance the team, especially with their current situation.
She looked over to Bushido, who had his hands up, trying to hold back Cyborg who was literally in his face about all the cuisines he was adapt at making much to the young samurai's chagrin. They had needed a replacement to take Beastboys place, not wanting any villains to try and take advantage of their loss, so they went with the closest honorary Titan they could get a hold of and that was able to offer their assistance. His skilled swordsmanship, and ability to use a variety of weapons proved to be well rounded on the battlefield.
As Cyborg continued to fuss at an unlucky Bushido and Starfire tried to sneak in some of her own Tameranian concoctions into Cyborg's meal, Raven took the chance to disappear from the group. She floated through the corridors, stopping when she somehow found herself in Beastboy's room. Without a word she landed onto the floor and keyed in his code, he was nice enough to give her his code during their time training together. She walked into his room, looking around at the slight changes it took over the years. They had fixed it back to it's original state after the Beast trashed it for the umpteenth time. His room wasn't as messy as when he first used to have it, he picked up some of his trash, and faced a few garbage monsters which she didn't want to even remember.
The only key item that remained the same was his bunk bed which she still pestered him about replacing for a real bed but he would always try and change the subject so as to make her forget about it. She went to his dresser where a mirror stood up on it, covered from head to toe with an array of pictures of all the titans previous adventures and memories. She couldn't help but smile at most of the pictures involving him doing something goofy that pointed him out in the photo.
She came across one that caused her eyes to widen as she picked it up to get a better look of it. "When did he..."
The picture featured her and Beastboy, covered head to toe in flour, Beastboy grinning with a bowl full of it in a reeled back hand while she made an effort to throw some back at him, a smile of her own across her face.
It was a fond memory, after a successful session, she was coerced by Beastboy to be taught how to make some cookies. They teaching process was...nice to say the least, just the thought of the events that transpired brought a slight reddening to her cheek.
"Ooh, I remember that day, some naughty ideas went through your mind." A voice purred in her head causing her to slightly groan in annoyance.
"What do you want Lust?" She put the picture in it's original place, walking out of the room and slowly through the halls.
Lust didn't seem to approve of her action judging from the groan of disapproval that came after. "I wanted to see what other pictures BB had of us." She seemed to pout which Raven only ignored.
"What do you want?" Raven repeated in her monotone voice.
"Hey, you're the one getting me all bothered. Mmm, I miss him so much!" Lust wined before suddenly stopping and slowly giggling. "Maybe we can fool around with that Bushido guy, talk about a well made man."
Raven sent a mental slap to the emotion, earning a loud 'ow' as a reward. "Fine fine, I'm going back to sleep, try and keep a lid over yourself, unless you want me to grab the first good looking piece of man I come in contact with that is."
"Don't linger on that thought." Raven replied, coming to her door just as Lust's laughs died down and only silence remained. She was about to walk in when something she stopped, feeling something off. Her gaze narrowed side to side and seeing nothing, she sensed for the other Titans, finding them in the kitchen still.
She walked into her room with a light sigh, unaware of the figure that appeared at her doors closing.
They grinned before pressing a button on the communicator in their ear just as she disappeared through it. "Three titans down...one to go."
"Good." A voice answered. "Capture this one, and we can have 'him' come to the surprise we have prepared."
Within the common room, Bushido, Cyborg, and Starfire were passed out on the floor, each with a small S shaped marker on their back. Cyborg suddenly glowing before his cybernetic eye began flashing red.
While this went on, an explosion erupted in the background as two people could be seen in battle.
-Unknown-
"And you're sure they're attacking today?" Robin looked behind him to the person cloaked in darkness who nodded at his words.
Robin went silent as he looked down with a saddened gaze, he removed his mask revealing his saddened expression. "And I promised her..."
"Turning back on your plan already?" The voice asked as Robin shook his head before looking down at his communicator that began flashing a scarlet red. He grabbed it from his belt, looking at it as if he was losing something very precious to him.
"No...sacrifices were going to be made..." Robin turned his back to the figure who rested a dark hand on his shoulder which he surprisingly didn't shove off.
"The life of a hero is never easy."
Jace: Now this was a short chap because the upcoming fight is a two part one.
Demi: So sorry for the lack of epicness and story point my dear friends, just slacking on this one is all...
Jace: But it shall return very soon!
Demi: So the only questions to ask in this chapter are...Who is the Assailant on the Titans Tower? What is Robin planning, and with who exactly? Will this be the Titans final breakfast together?
Jace: Answers may be answered in the next chapter of Control!
