Chapter 7 – Training
Part 1
"So you two are off then" Stoick chimed behind us. "Ya will be back in about a week or so and your not going to forget what we told you right" hiccup said while his father was leaning on his shoulder." yes yes, i send someone out with 2 barrels of fish each day to the cove" Stoick breathed out." I don't understand why you don't hunt for yourself " He suggested."When do you want your son back?" I said mockingly. Stoick laughed and wished us the best of luck on our flight training as we walked into the forest.
"So why are we doing this in the forest again?" i asked."because your going to fail badly" toothless replied coldly. "Well thanks for the confidence booster" I replied bitterly. I saw her huff and look back at me and said "Look you have a huge disadvantage over other dragons" She said. " And that is?" Looking at her with probably the most confused look on my face. " Well to put it simply your a late teen early adult dragon" she said.
" But wait that should make it easier i always see the baby dragon having trouble when they first try because the don't have the muscle." I said more confused then before. "Well that is correct, there is more to it then that" she stated with a slightly annoyed tone to her voice. "The fact is when baby dragons first learn to fly. If they fail they will fall to the ground but there smaller weight and muscle wont let them get too height so trail and error is not likely to get the injured or killed. But for you" She trailed off. "With my muscle and my weight i can get higher but without the knowledge of how to it could be very badly" i finished for her and she simply nodded her head at me.
We both walked in silence after that until we reached the cove. "with the water here it should lessen the impact of when you fail." toothless stated coldly. " don't you mean if" i jokingly said back hopefully lighten the mood a bit."no" she stiffly said.
"The first thing your are going to go is experiment with your own body." she said simply. "what the hell does that mean" i said without thinking. " have you even truly taken the time to see how your new body works" she said questioningly. I shock my head and she continued "well you need to know your new body whether you like it or not you are in a dragon body for now at least". I count argue with anything toothless had said but i just didn't want to admit myself. "Look i am going to look above the cove and try to find a good place for you to practise gliding" she said as she turned around. "Do your best to try and open your wings fully by the time i get back" she snickered as she left.
Well time to start but with what. "Well the claws cant be that hard" as i looked at my front feet. He closed his eyes and said to himself "Ok so concentrate hiccup, concentrate" . Then he felt the claws twitch and felt the muscle that moved them. The only thing he could compare it to was moving his human feet up and down. Then he used the muscle like when he would curl his foot as a human and the claws out and to the ground."IT WORKED" he yelled to the world."now lets try bring them back" he said to himself as he tried to do the reverse of what he had just accomplished. The claws retracted in and it felt like toes being pushed all the way back tell it touched the back of his foot. The problem is there was no pain "well this is not going to be an easy week" he said with a heavy sigh.
"oh crap the wings" as he remembered what toothless said looking back at them. He then attempted to move his back muscle to figure out how to open his wings. After some time he was able to release his wings and the fell to the ground. "well that just great now i got two wings dragging beside me." he said cursing his lack of in site to his own body. He tried to focus on what muscles moved the wings and "there" he said as his wing moved up and down but there was a problem.
"i can move them but there just sagging there" he said. Then after a few more attempts of moving his wings he new the best comparison. "Hands" he said the with an thrilled tone. "that it hands so the bones i feel in my wings are like my fingers". He moved each of the bones in his wings like that of human finger and expanded his wings to there full limit away from him in both directions. "ha i new i could figure it out I need to show toothless" he was just about to run off and tell toothless and the he got an idea.
Part 2
" perfect this will do nicely" she said as toothless observed the spot that she had chosen for practise. "well even when he fails at least he will more likely hit the water" she stated to no one. The spot had about a half a wing span of land before the pond in the middle and the water seemed deep enough to take most of the impact of his crashes. she looked over at the ramp that would allow them to get out the cavern without having to fly out. "good thing hiccup built that after the red death well death" she said.
"well time to get started" she turned around and though she heard an existed yell of excitement from hiccup. She laughed to herself " guess he figuring some thing out about his fantastic bod.. bad toothless bad" with a sigh. "I needs to stop this" she told herself but no matter how she tried she wanted this badly but not enough to risk destroying what they already had.
Toothless kept walking toward the original spot where she left toothless but failed to notice the black shape in thick bush. Hiccup jumped out and stood on his hind with his wings fully erect in front of her. At first she was startled but then she saw how each muscle clearly and how his wings where a perfect shade of black. This was a true male she thought without really knowing it and missed what he said entirely as he landed. "toothless why are you looking at me like that" he asked cracking his neck to the side. " uh well sorry look i um found a nice spot that we can start gliding practise tomorrow" she nervously said. "wait why tomorrow i can open my wings and can work them see" he said as he flapped his wings. This foolish flapping of his wings snapped her out of it "ya you can move them but you don't how the react in air. Also you clearly do not now how to get your wings retracted easily just look at them there hanging over your side". He looked back dumbfounded and spoke " well so what"
"so what your wings and tail are the most important part of you as a dragon!" i yelled with a rage i dint know i had. " I am sorry about that its just" i said as i looked back at my former tail. "no look this my fault i spoke without thinking you are right what do you want to start with." he said apolitically. The next few hours involved me nipping at his wings every time he made a mistake and teaching how to position his wings for gliding.
"ow would you stop that i get it i get it like this" hiccup said through his clenched teeth. "perfect looks like you will be ready for tomorrows training on how to glide." i said with gummy smile that always made him laugh. A small smile cracked his face " well lets go to sleep" he said as we walked down it the cove.
"get some sleep we are going to start at first light because we will be at it all day tomorrow" i said as he was clearly not wanting to go to bed even though the sun was just on the horizon." hey toothless there a question i have been meaning to ask you?" he said while looking up toward where the dawn sky. He then look toward me and asked "where did you come from". I froze with long ago memory that I wanted to forget. " it a very long story and i do not want to tell it tonight" i said look down at the ground. "alright night as he put his head to the ground and close his eyes. "night" i replied as i looked toward the skied and remembered both the fire and the teeth of my past.
Well 3 years for that chapter hope to finish with the next two weeks but we will see
