"Come in now, Joker," Shepard ordered "Save the council,"
"They better not forget this," Wrex complained.
The squad watched as Alliance ships appeared and began to decimate the geth forces. It wasn't long until the Destiny Ascension was clear and the military focused on Sovereign. Suddenly the ground quaked with such force that the group was thrown off their feet. They watched in horror as Saren's dead body twisted and conformed, making him bigger. Then the thing stood up stared at the squad for a moment the jumped to the ceiling.
"Weapons free!" Shepard shouted as she aimed down her rifle. The thing moved with inhuman agility, giving the squad trouble in getting a open shot on it. Wrex was able to time a biotic throw just right that stunned the thing for a moment. Brady tossed a grenade, which on detonation staggered the monster. Even with the combined fire of the squad, the monster was able to leap by them, clipping Brady on the way.
"You alright, Daniels?" Shepard cried.
"Yeah!" Brady shouted back as he stood. Unfortunately the thing had picked him for its target and shot him from behind with a charged shot. The ex soldier fell forward and lay motionless.
"Brady!" Logan shouted and scrambled to his friend's side. He felt for a pulse and found a week one.
He was interrupted by a loud thud landing behind him. As Logan turned and the avatar fired again, impacting him in the chest. The man fell to his back, struggling to breathe and not being able to move.
Before the monster could do anything another biotic throw tossed it a few yards. As the rest of the squad focused on the thing Logan slowly and painfully peeled off his melting chest piece. Next he rolled over with a gasp of pain and began undoing Brady's ruined armor. After his friend was free of the now useless protection, Logan applied medi-gel.
Shepard winced as a shot glanced off of her shoulder but stayed where she was, the trigger of her assault rifle pinned. Trying to find cover was useless, as this monster was leaping about like some of the geth they had encountered. Every so ofter she would glance over to the two injured humans to make sure they were alright, Brady still wasn't moving and Logan was on all fours attending to his friend. She turned back to their opposition in time see Wrex headbutt it to the ground, stand on top of the monster, and unload his shotgun into it. The squad was shocked when the thing stood up like nothing was encumbering it and jump away again.
"Kaidan, see if you can stop it with a stasis. Everyone else, get your grenades ready," Shepard ordered.
From his position next to Brady, Logan started firing his pistol, knowing he wasn't doing much but every bit helped. The monster attached to the wall for a brief moment then launched itself at the wounded man. All four limbs of the thing connected, sending Logan flying back a few feet. Before he could recover, Logan found him hoisted into the air by his neck, then roughly tossed into the wall with a thud, where he fell, barely conscious. Suddenly the thing froze in stasis.
"Take him out!" Shepard shouted and the whole squad threw grenades at the feet of the thing. Everyone dove into cover to avoid shrapnel and when they stood they stared in disbelief that the thing was still alive. It was in bad shape but stiff functional, it was shaking as it stood, the lights in its eyes dimmer. From behind a shotgun blast took out one of the monster's legs at the knee, causing it to drop to a kneel. The avatar turned to stare down the barrel of the shotgun. Logan fired again and the force of the blast knocked the thing on its back. Before it could recover the monster was lifted, by biotics, then thrown away from Logan. The squad then converged on the fallen avatar and unloaded with their guns and biotics. When they let up a bright red light exploded from it and, with a mechanical roar, began to disintegrate.
With the immediate threat gone, Shepard sprinted to Logan who had let his shotgun fall to his side.
"Logan, you alright?" she asked, and when she got a painful cough for an answer she uncharacteristically began to panic "Stay with me!" she shouted as she tried to apply medi-gel, but her shaking hands was making it difficult.
Through his blurry vision, he saw another figure drop next to Shepard and take over caring for him.
"I know you're stronger than this, Logan, fight!" it was Garrus.
"Shepard," Logan said weekly, it was taking most of his energy just to stay awake.
Shepard grabbed one of his hands "I'm here," she declared, her eyes beginning to tear up.
"Make s-sure...Dana-" was all he managed before blacking out.
Normandy 3 days later
"Shepard! He's waking up!" a voice shouted, causing Logan's head to throb.
And since he recognized the voice he didn't fell bad in saying "Shut the fuck up, Brady,"
Logan opened his eyes to his best friend beaming down at him, who was shoved out of the way and replaced with a smiling, tearing up Shepard.
"Hey," Logan said with a smile. He then began to sit up to hug her but she met him half way and they both collapsed back onto the med bay bed. "How long was I out?"
"Roughly three days, man," Brady answered for Shepard, he doubted she would be able to speak coherently at the moment.
Logan's eyes widened at the news "Why am I here and not in a hospital?" he asked next.
Shepard relinquished her hug and sat up but interlocked one of her hands with Logan's "All the hospitals on the Citadel were overflowing with victims of the attack, so we brought you here," she explained "Even with minimal resources, Dr. Chakwas was able to pull you through,"
Logan looked around for the elderly woman but Brady spoke up "She's volunteering at a local hospital,"
Sudden realization struck Lerman "Where's Dana?" he asked as he sat bolt upright.
Brady held up a hand to stop him from getting out of bed "She's fine, she's waiting up in the cockpit with Joker. I'll go get her," he said and made his exit.
The two sat in silence for a moment before Logan thought of another person "My mom?"
Shepard's smile disappeared "She, um.. she didn't make it," she said
"What? What happened?" Logan asked, feeling like he was going to be sick.
"She never recovered from the wound she took. She passed away before we were able to retrieve her," Shepard explained.
Logan stared ahead at the wall trying to process the information.
Suddenly the door opened "Daddy!" a little voice shouted, and the girl dashed to her father's bed.
Despite his muscles searing pain, Logan leaned out and picked his girl up into a big hug as Dana cried into his shoulder "Daddy's alright," he said softly while Shepard gently rubbed her back.
The door opened again to reveal Stephen "Glad to see you're doing alright," he said as he walked up next to the bed.
Logan freed one of his arms to shake Stephen's hand "I can't thank your enough for your help," he declared.
Stephen chuckled "Don't mention it, but the Twisted are still waiting on their payment," he stated.
"Yeah," Logan sighed "I half tempted to send them a bomb but they did help us out,"
Stephen nodded "I hate to admit it but without them, the geth would have gotten all of us,"
"What did you promise them?" Shepard asked.
"Enough credits to buy to two gunships," Logan answered sheepishly.
"I'll forward you guys the credits, but I expect to be reimbursed," Shepard offered.
"Thanks, ma'am," Stephen said with a massive grin "Logan wasn't wrong about you, I see. He better be treating your right"
"What exactly did he say about me?" Shepard asked while staring at Logan with a sly grin.
Logan gulped and looked to Stephen who, out of Shepard's sight, winked at him before taking a seat.
Citadel 1 week later
Logan and Shepard stood outside the Normandy's airlock, saying their goodbyes. Shepard had new orders; to eliminated the remaining pockets of geth resistance.
"It's not too late to come with me, you know?" Shepard offered for the millionth time that day.
Logan nodded with a sad smile "I know, and I really want to but I have to bury my mom. Then I'm going to be taking care of Dana. Plus Brady would have a mental breakdown if he wasn't able to see me after a day," he stated.
"I hope things work out between him and Kim," Shepard stated. When Brady got injured in the fight with Saren, Kim had decided that was the last straw and gave him a ultimatum; either he quit Shepard's crew and got a safer job on the Citadel or she was leaving him. At the moment they were trying to work things out.
Logan nodded "Me too, but I don't see Brady doing anything else, he was born to take risks. So was I," he declared.
"It's going to be strange without you, Brady, Wrex, or Tali around," Shepard said.
"I can't believe Wrex didn't say anything to us about leaving," Logan stated. The whole team had received a message from the krogan, a few days after Logan woke up, saying he had returned to Tuchanka.
"Probably doesn't like mushy goodbyes," Shepard said "Saying goodby to Tali this morning wasn't easy, lots of tears,"
Logan rolled his eyes "Women," he muttered receiving a smack to his gut.
Shepard's omni-tool lit up and she sighed "Well, time for me to go," she said in disappointment.
"Just remember what's waiting for you back here," Logan stated before pulling her into a kiss. The two embraced each other, their lips locked, not wanting to separate.
"I still don't see how that's sanitary," a voice spoke from next to them. The two lovers broke apart to see Garrus observing them.
Logan smiled "Let me show you," he stated before clasping his hands on the turian's head and trying to pull him into a kiss but Garrus held him back with both hands. The two struggled for a moment, with Shepard laughing, before breaking apart. The commander was glad to see that they were getting along again. She knew there were a few crew members that wouldn't forgive Logan or Brady for what they've done, Kaidan and Liara most notably and she didn't blame them, but luckily Garrus dropped the issue fast.
"Be safe out there guys," Logan stated as he shook Garrus' hand "I still gotta go say goodbye to Tali. That's going to be a whole thing too," Logan stayed on the dock until the Normandy had disappeared from sight before turning and heading out.
Back at his apartment, where Tali had been staying, Brady was already there talking to the quarian.
"Hey, B, I didn't expect you to be here so soon. How are things going between you and Kim?" Logan asked.
"I don't think we're going to last," Brady admitted "She already had some of her things packed by the time I left,"
"Damn, man," Logan said "Sorry to hear that,"
Brady shrugged "It's alright," he stated somberly "There's plenty of fish in the sea, right?"
"Fish?" Tali piped up "You compare your women to fish,"
Logan chuckled "Figure of speech, Tali," he explained.
She nodded, but the two humans could tell she still didn't get it "I'm going to miss you guys," she said after a minute of silence.
"We're going to miss you," Logan declared "What are you going to do about your pilgrimage?"
"Your military says they found something on Solcrum and Admiral Hackett said he plans on forwarding me what he thinks will be useful to the quarians, as a thank you for helping Shepard," Tali explained.
Logan beamed "That's awesome," he declared "Good luck, Tali, if you ever need help with anything, don't hesitate to call us,"
"I-I w...won't," she replied, voice quivering, then enveloped Logan in a hug, who returned it.
"No crying," Logan teased.
Tali sniffed "I'm not," she stated as they separated. She next turned to Brady and they embraced "If you guys ever need my help, I'll see what I can do,"
"We'll remeber that," Brady stated and realized their hug was lasting longer than the one with Logan "Goodbye my favorite quarian,"
They finally separated "Goodbye my favorite human," Tali replied then left the apartment, trying to suppress her tears.
Logan was smiling ear to ear at what he just witnessed but didn't say anything about it "Wanna see if Stephen's down for a drink?" he asked.
"Yeah, I could use a drink or five about now," Brady stated.
Citadel 2 weeks later
Logan flopped onto his couch, dead tired. Absentmindedly he turned the vid terminal on but stayed laying fave down.
'The remains of the SSV Normandy were discovered by the alliance response team'
Logan sat bolt upright on the couch and turned the volume up not believing what he was hearing.
'Escape pods containing various crew members were rescued but the galaxy will be saddened to learn that hero Commander Jenna Shepard died in the attack, funeral-'
Logan switched it off not wanting to hear any more, it couldn't be true. He then sank back into his couch staring dead ahead at the vid terminal. Suddenly he broke down into tears and began to loudly sob.

A/N- Wow it has been a while so I'll start off with apologies. Sorry about the long wait (12 hour shifts suck) for this chapter. This chapter was just a short wrap up of the ME1 storyline. I'll start a whole new story for the shenanigans the gang gets up to in between ME1 and 2. And I'm really excited about it too, I've been planning it since about three chapters back.
