This chapter contains a little bit of fluff and such, I don't think I'm necessarily brave enough to write smut haha. Anyways! More talking at the end of the chapter!
Saya ran as fast as she could, but kept slipping on the bloodied ground. Shifting her weight on her backside, she rubbed at her scrapped knees and whined. Looking up at the sky, her jade eyes swelling with tears. Rocking gently back and forth, Saya felt a pair of hands reaching up and under her arms.
"Come on now, hold on to me." The boy with short blonde hair lifted Saya up onto his hip.
"We need to get out of here now, where's Bertl? Hurry up!"
Through heavy eyelids, Saya cried out, "Annie! T-they g-got my mummy!"
The blonde girl shifted her eyes to Saya, but couldn't bring herself to say anything.
"Move Bertl! Move!" The boy carrying Saya yelled out and she saw another boy, taller with darker hair sprinting towards them.
Breathing frantically, Saya nuzzled into the boys chest, coughing repeatedly as they ran away.
Jean nudged Saya gently on the shoulder, "Are you okay? You spaced out there for a second."
Hazily, Saya nodded her head, poking at her soup with the spoon in her hand. The flash backs were becoming more frequent, so much so that they were distracting her from her duties around the grounds. She hadn't told anyone about her visiting Annie right after the incident with the captured titan the other day. Ever since then, she'd been picturing Annie, on that day their home was destroyed. And Saya had been wracking her brain trying to remember the two other little boys that were with her, they were the reason she was even alive. But no matter how hard she tried, she couldn't remember them, only vague pictures.
"I'm just tired is all, I haven't been sleeping properly." Forcing a smile, she tilted her head at Jean and leaned closer to him, oblivious to his brightly flushed face.
Clearing his throat, he sat rigid on the seat, glancing down at the girl leaning close to him. He'd been worried about her ever since they came back from their expedition, things had seemed off. Glancing off to the side, he gritted his teeth as Jaeger started pulling faces at him. Jean bit his lip and mouthed the words 'fuck you' and Eren burst out laughing from across the table.
Saya lifted her head to see what all the fuss was about and craned her neck when Armin shrugged his shoulders, smiling, and when Jean groaned in annoyance, "What's up?"
"Damn it Jaeger!" Jean ran his hand through his hair.
Unable to contain his laughter, Eren smacked his hand on the table repeatedly, "You…you are too much Jean. So damn obvious."
Saya arched her eyebrow in confusion and looked at Jean, eyes widening when she saw how bright his face was.
Walking past, Reiner slapped Jean on the back, "Honesty gets you far buddy, may as well come clean. Sooner rather than later."
Saya pursed her lips, growing more and more confused by the minute. Looking up at Reiner, with Bertholdt behind him, she felt a sudden pang in her chest, her arm's starting to sting. Her mind instantly crossing back to the little boy picking her up from the ground. Shaking her head, Saya merely laughed along with the others, too tired to keep running around the thoughts in her head. She put a hand on Jean's shoulder and sighed, "Don't worry about them, their just teasing you."
Saya brought her hand up and down her left arm, out of all days, it was hurting a little more than usual, "You didn't have to walk me back you know." Looking over at Jean, she still wondered why his face was always so red.
"It's fine… I-I wanted to." Jean kept his hands in his pockets as he tried not to look at her for too long.
Coming up to her dorm room door, Saya sighed and spun around on her heels, still holding her arm, "Why are you so red Jean?"
She watched as Jean took his hands out of his pockets, eye wide, "W-what do you mean?" He placed the back of his hand on his cheek and felt the burning sensation and cursed himself.
Reaching up on her tip toes, Saya poked Jean's cheek with her finger, "Look at you, you're all red. Is it because of whatever Eren and Reiner were on about? You know, whatever they tease you about I'm sure it's nothing.'
Jean breathed out sharply and looked at the ground, "I-I… I like you! Damn it, I mean, I feel very… strongly for you. When you were injured in the forest, I thought I was going to lose you. And I can't go through that again. I can't lose someone else I love-"
Cupping a hand over his mouth, Jean took a step back away from Saya, mentally cursing himself again.
While Saya just stood at the front of her door, trying to take in Jean's confession. Thinking back to what he said at the forest, in the middle of all the mayhem and it immediately made sense, "Jean… I had no idea…" Trying to reach out for his hand Saya stepped forward, only for Jean to step closer to her.
"I didn't mean to tell you like that."
Saya leaned up to the boy wrapped her arms around his shoulders, "It's okay." She whispered into his chest, flashes of her past attacking her mind again, the way she cried into the blonde boy's chest.
Placing two fingers under her chin, Jean arched her face towards his own and pressed his lips against hers. Using his other hand, he wrapped it around her back, pulling her in closer to him. Opening his eyes in shock, he covered his mouth with his hand and murmured, "S-sorry! Oh damn it I shouldn't have-"
Saya reconnected their lips, to keep him quite, because if she was going to be honest with herself, a certain pressure she didn't know had built up in her chest was suddenly released after her kissed her. Pulling away, she could now feel her own face blushing, "It's okay." Taking his hand in hers, Saya pulled Jean into her dormitory room, before gently shutting the door behind them.
Saya rolled over in her bed, feeling Jean's grasp around her hips. He was still fast asleep, and she noticed he twitched his nose when he was sleeping. Smiling widely, Saya closed her eyes and nuzzled back into his chest.
The fire inside the abandoned house was keeping Saya warm. She watched as Grisha Jaeger melted a piece of her metal shards with his medical plyers.
"Now, Saya, bring me that slate." Carefully, Dr. Jaeger quickly moved the hot piece of metal onto the slate that Saya had placed on the table.
The heat from the fire radiated throughout the room, and Saya watched the doctor and he meticulously sculpted a small key from what once was a piece of metal from Saya's arm. She watched intently as Grisha Jaeger wiped his brow of sweat, before taking off his gloves.
"Did it work Dr. Jaeger?" Peering at the key, Saya pursed her lips and furrowed her brows.
The doctor smiled and placed his hands on his hips, "Yes, this will be perfect for the chest. I'll have to attach it to some leather for my son to wear when the time comes."
Saya arched her eyebrow and looked at the doctor, "May I ask what this key is for?"
Grisha Jaeger sighed, "It's for an old chest I keep in the basement of my home. When the times comes, I'll be giving it to my son Eren, so that one day he may know the contents of the chest."
Saya nodded, staying silent as she listened to the doctor. She watched back over to the key that was now cooling down on the slate in front of them. Before she could turn back, Saya felt a slight sting on the back of her neck.
From the angle on the ground, Saya could barely make out Grisha Jaeger walking out of the house, his words mumbled, "I'm sorry, but I needed this. As a favour of a patient of mine, Leonhardt, his daughter needs it. She needs to be saved and maybe this is the way. It won't hurt to try, goodbye Saya."
Saya opened her eyes and gasped for air, glancing at her arm, she felt it throbbing. Pressing her hand to her head, she looked over at a still sleeping Jean and she felt her breath calm a little, there's no way. I don't remember that. That…couldn't have happened.
Man, I feel so bad for not updating in so long. University is truly overbearing. Ugh. Well, I thought that little bit of fluff was cute. With the way I picture Saya in my mind, I feel like she looks after Jean (especially after Marco). I hope you like this chapter, reviews are always appreciated!
