Billy lost sight of Jasmine for a moment in the chaos of the UEO and Barcelona police's arrival.
Please don't let her be dead, he thought as he shoved the fleeing teens out of his way. He groaned in relief when he found her crumpled on the floor near the escape exit underneath the table.
His relief turned to panic when he tenderly turned her over and saw the blood flowing from her neck. He wept and cursed fate for taking her from him.
}}Billy{{
Surprise stopped his tears and he stared at her. }}Jasmine?{{
}}Billy, it hurts.{{ Her voice was so faint and full of pain that he felt as if he, too, were dying. }}Help me.{{
Her pleading gave him clarity and without hesitation, he placed both of his hands around her neck, covering her torn throat. He felt warmth fill his hands and spread outward. He didn't understand nor did Billy care. He would save her, the love of his life.
Lucas was fully in the thick of things. He had just stunned two stocky twins and was looking for more when his eyes were drawn to the pulsating light across the room coming from underneath the table.
Rushing toward the table, he was aware that an eerie silence had fallen. The light from Billy and Jasmine was so bright, Lucas had to squint. He could feel a curious humming in his head. It reminded him of that time when that psychic had used him, Piccolo and Dagwood.
He had to make it to them, the urgency to stop whatever was happening strong in his mind.
"Care if I join you?"
"Tony?"
"You feel it, too, doncha?"
"Yeah. No one told us she was psychic," Lucas muttered. They had to hurry. Things were going to go south in a big way.
