Chapter: Time Together

The grind of stone meeting stone was the only sound present in the bunker that Arla marked as her own. She was grinding and mashing up jewelweed to make a poultice for rashes. One of the delinquent teenagers sat near poison ivy last night, taking a break on guarding and laid back onto the poison ivy. Now, they had the rash on the back of their neck while the rest of the body was protected by their clothes.
The hatch open up causing Arla to pause in what she was doing to glance to her left where she watched familiar clothes climbing down the ladder. A small grin came onto her lips while she went back to resume what she was doing.
"I got you more jewelweed."
"Thank you, Nyko."
Nyko set the small bundle of jewelweed beside her. He stood beside her as he watched her create a salve for one of the skywalkers. The familiar scent of peppermint reached his nose as he stood closely beside her.
"I smell peppermint."
"I open up one of the bottles to soak a small cloth to give a scent in this room." Arla told him as she finished with the poultice.
"It's pleasant." Nyko replied lowly.
Arla glanced at him in the corner of her eyes with a small grin before scooping the orange-yellow paste into a small container. She set it away from her while she cleaned up the mess that she created. Nyko lending a hand in cleaning the mess quicker.
"How has your day been going?" Arla started as she cleaned her hands off with a wet cloth.
"Fine. Your people have been making my people anguish to attack."
Arla dropped the cloth on the counter to turn herself to face Nyko. Her eyebrows rose as she saw him let out a heavy sigh. When he looked back up, their eyes connected. Both could see that they did not wish this. Neither one wanted any sort of war to happen between the Grounders and the Sky people.
"Is there any way that we could call a truce?"
"There has been damage down to one of our villages. We aren't one to forgive and forget instantly." Nyko told her.
Swallowing a bit harder than usual, Arla head bowed after she gave a small nod. She wanted a truce to be called so that Nyko and her could be together in public without harsh consequences.
A hand on the side of her face got Arla eyes to flicker up to meet Nyko eyes. His eyes held concern due to her silence. He kept his hand cupping the side of her face as he stepped closer to stare down at her.
"What are you thinking about?"
"How I want us to be together without punishment." Arla admitted to him.
His thumb moved in a slow back and forth motion across her cheekbone before his hand dropped away. Arla held back a small frown from the lost of his warm hand that brought warmth throughout her whole body. Though when he bent his head down, Arla felt that warmth coming through her again as she leaned up to meet him halfway.
Their lips brushed against each other before they both added pressure to deepen their kiss.
Arla let her hands grab hold of his top before her hands slid up to cup either side of his neck. She could feel Nyko hands trail down her sides to her hips and tugged her closer to his body. A gasp escaped Arla at the force he tugged her against his body, but it did not frighten her. It aroused her more than anything.
Their lips came apart and their faces close as they stared at one another.
Close to a week had passed since they first kissed. Since then, it appeared as if their bond became stronger than ever. Every touch and kiss became passionate each day. It was clear that they found one another meant for each other. They connected and bonded over their interest in the medical herbs, but also, the nature.
The two enjoyed going on walks through the woods, but Arla made sure to let Nyko lead. He knew where the grounders go to scout out the area and to watch out for sky people.
Eyes stayed connected, Arla brought their lips back together making Nyko to growl in approval. His hands on her hips slid down to make a daring move of skimming over her butt and rested beneath her butt cheeks. It only made a tingling feeling to become stronger in Arla lower region.
Their lips moved together, their mouth opening up enough to explore each other mouth. Nyko, this time, pulled away to begin pressing his lips underneath her jawline and to her neck making a soft moan to escape Arla.
The sound of knocking on the hatch got Nyko to rip away and stared at it with narrowed eyes. His eyes came back on Arla as she stared at the hatch to the bunker with confusion and curiosity.
"Who could be?"
"Did you tell anyone else of this bunker?" Nyko whispered, keeping his voice down just in case the person outside the hatch was a sky person.
"Hide."
Nyko nodded and ran to the bathroom to hide in their while Arla grabbed one of her knives to walk over to the ladder. She stood there, staring up the ladder and to the hatch where there was pounding on it again.
"Arla."
"Lincoln?" Arla eyebrows scrunched together then she made her way up the ladder, unlocking the latch for it to be ripped open.
Arla climbed down the ladder then stood back. She jumped when a hand pressed against her lower back. For a man his size, Nyko walked quietly.
"Lincoln, this is a surprise." Nyko said.
"I saw you come here. You have to be careful."
"I'm not the one circling the sky people area." Nyko pointed out.
A small grunt escaped Lincoln as Nyko caught him there. Lincoln looked at Arla, who stared at him with the questionable look, wondering why his sudden appearance.
"Do you happen to have medicine for coughing?"
"Who is sick?" Arla asked as she moved away from Nyko to move over to a shelf that contained small bottles with herbs she made into oils, grinded up or made salve.
Nyko had been kind enough to bring empty bottles for her to put her finish products in.
"Octavia has been coughing." Lincoln told her.
"Sore throat?"
"Headaches and she clears her throat a lot." Lincoln explained the symptoms.
"Sinuses." Arla mumbled to herself as she pulled out two items and turned to Lincoln.
She saw Nyko and Lincoln staring at one another making her to clear her throat, her eyes flickering between them as she came to stand to the side of the two.
"Is everything alright?"
"Just the two of us keeping each other secrets of being with sky people." Lincoln smirked, looking away from Nyko to stare at Arla.
Arla blinked slowly as she thought about that. She knew that Nyko and Lincoln will be punished for them being with the enemy. Nyko with Arla and Lincoln with Octavia. But Arla had a feeling that Nyko wouldn't be killed off due to him being the only healer in the village.
"Oh. Okay then." Arla tried not to blush as she handed Lincoln over two herbs.
"Ginger root and peppermint. Peppermint can help with soothing the throat and break down the mucus that is likely collecting up in Octavia's throat. The ginger root can be made into a tea. It's already cut up, so just boil it for about ten or so minutes, strained the water into a cup and have her sip it. It works as an anti-inflammatory." Arla explained to Lincoln as he held the herbs in his hands.
"What does she have?"
"Sounds like a sinus infection. Being around all this nature and not in space anymore, our bodies are feeling the effect of pollen from plants. Some of us aren't bother by it while others, like Octavia, are bothered by it." Arla explained, arms crossing over her chest.
"Interesting." Lincoln mumbled to himself as he stared down at the herbs in his hands.
"Be safe, you two and thank you for this." Lincoln said, nodding his head to Arla before he made his way up the ladder.
Arla climbed up behind him to lock the hatch behind him before she climbed her way back down.
"I could go for some tea." Arla said.
Nyko stood back as he watched Arla make two cups of tea with peppermint. She held it out to him making him to accept the cup from her, but continued to stare at her.
"What is wrong?"
"Nothing." Nyko lifted the cup to his lips to take a few sips of the peppermint tea that brought a soothing feel to his body.
"Oh?" Arla did not believe him.
She set her cup of tea down to walked up to him with concern eyes.
"What is wrong, Nyko?"
Eyeign her, Nyko looked away as her green eyes were alluring to him. He set the cup of tea down then he looked at her.
"I do not want you to get hurt."
"I won't."
"I will make sure that you will be safe." Nyko reached up to cup the side of her face.
Arla reached up to rest her hand over his hand and gave him a gentle smile. She felt her eyes fluttered shut as Nyko bent down to press his lips against her own again. Arla pulled back making Nyko to stare down at her with a raised eyebrow.
"Can't get enough of me?" She winked causing him to chuckle.
"No, I guess that I can't and I hope that I never will." Nyko told her.
"Romantic."
Nyko chuckled as he bent down to press his lips against hers again, but decided to tease her. As she got closer to his own lips, he pulled away from her all together and moved back to the table to grab his tea.
"I don't want my tea to get cold."
"You-You-Nyko, you are such a tease!"
He held back his chuckling by taking a few sips of the tea. Though he found himself setting the cup down as he began to dodge her as she came charging him.
Arla let out a yell as she got thrown over his shoulder and he carried her over to the pull out couch, dropping her onto it and he laid down on top of her. She stared up at him with a pout, but that pout was gone when Nyko bent down to give her a deep kiss this time.
