Ch 21 Introduction To The New People

Alarm Clock- "Good morning sleepy head! It's morning!"

It is wonderful to stay alive.

So I will.

Not lose.

Alarm Clock- "It's morning, good morning!"

Alarm Clock- "It's morning-"

*Slam*

Miki- "*Yawn*...Good morning."

My name is Miki Naoki, I'm a survivor who somehow survived the outbreak for 5 months now by staying in a storage room full of food and water supplies also a functional bathroom.

Before the outbreak, I was a first-year high school student at Megurigaoka Private High School. I and my friend who is no longer with me went to the city and when the outbreak happened we somehow survived by staying here.

What happened to my friend you ask? I don't want to talk about it.

I sit up and get off from my bed which is a Japanese futon and open my window to ventilate the room.

I went to the bathroom and washed my face and wipe my entire naked body with a wet towel.

Because this bathroom only has a sink and a toilet.

I looked at the mirror. Looks like I'm fully awake now.

I wear my underwear and the school uniform that I have been wearing for days now. It smells stink but I got no choice. This is the only clothes I have.

Of course, when it reaches to the point where it really stinks I washed it on the sink and hang it. I'll be naked but I'm used to it.

If you're wondering If I do the same thing with my underwear. Yes, yes I do.

I went to prepare myself some breakfast. It's crackers and a water bottle as I sit on the floor.

My table is a box. On it is my breakfast for today.

Miki- "I shall enjoy the meal."

I start eating the cracker. It didn't take long till I finished.

Miki- "*Gulp*..."

Miki- "Thank you for the meal."

I looked at the daily routine that I wrote down on a paper which is hanging on the wall.

I put away everything to make a space in the room.

First Hour: P.E.

Miki- "Radio Taisou* frist~"

I said as I put on my earphones on and start the radio.

Miki- "Tan tan tata tan."

((Author's Note- "It said on the manga, that this is warm-up calisthenics popular in Japan, which are broadcast to music on public NHK radio early in the morning."))

I said as I start to warm up.

Miki-"Tata tan tan tan."

*Turn*

Miki- "Tatata tan."

*Hop* *Hop* *Hop*

Miki- "Tatata tat tat tat."

*Tap* *Tap* *Tap*

Flashback

At the firsts day of the outbreak.

*Running*

Miki- "*Pant* *Pant*."

*Clatter*

Suddenly a man bumped me.

Miki- "Ouch?!"

We stop for a moment as I hold my right arm.

Miki- "*Haa*...*Haa*..."

My friend Kei started to look around where to go to.

*Looking Around*

Kei- "Which way?"

I did the same thing, then I found a way.

Miki- "Up, upstairs!"

I hold her hand.

Miki- "Let's go!"

Present-Day

I just finished and I sit down on the couch.

Miki- "Phew…"

I start drinking the water bottle.

Then I rest a little bit then start my second hour.

Second hour: Math.

I grab my notebook and my glasses as I study for math and try to solve some problem I made up.

Miki- "*Scratch*..."

Miki- "Hmm…"

After an hour of studying and solving math problems I made up, I decided to do my third hour.

Third Hour: English

On the couch, I'm reading "The Stand" by Stephen King. This book has been with me for a very long time now, I have read it so many times but since I got nothing else to study my English, I only got this option.

Flashback

I picked up this book on the mall along with my friend Kei on the first day of the outbreak, well before that "Hell" happened.

Miki- "Hm…"

Kei- "Wow, you can read that?"

I slightly blushed when Kei ask me I can understand English.

Miki- "I've already read the translated version, so I was wondering if I could…"

Kei- "Oh."

Woman- "KYAHH!"

Man- "WAH!"

Both of us were surprised to hear that.

Kei- "Wh-What was that-"

Miki- "Just now?"

We decided to check it.

Miki- "It's from outside."

We opened the window and saw all hell breaks loose.

Woman- "KYAAH!"

Man- "SOMEONE HELP ME- GAHHH?! IT HURTS!"

Miki- "What's going on?"

Present-Day

About to start my fourth hour.

Fourth Hour: Japanese.

I start writing Kanji on the paper while trying to combine the words with the other Japanese languages which are Hiragana, Katakana.

Miki- "Phew…"

Although It's also kinda hard.

Then once that hour is done, It's lunchtime.

Lunch Hour.

My lunch today is a bowl of cereal.

Miki- "I shall enjoy the meal."

Flashback

When I and Kei managed to found a place to hide from those monster, we usually have lunch together every day.

Miki and Kei- "I shall enjoy the meal."

We start eating our lunch which is biscuit and soda.

For some reason, Kei has been feeling down quite lately.

I'm kinda worried about this until…

Kei- "...I'm leaving."

Miki- "Huh?"

Until that, when she said that I began to get really worried about her.

Miki- "It's dangerous."

Kei- "It's dangerous?"

Kei- "But you know...are you fine with staying alive like this?"

She said while looking upset.

I...I couldn't answer her because she has a point.

Present-Day.

After lunch, I went back to my daily routine. Now on the fifth hour.

Fifth Hour: Music

I'm on my couch laying down, listening to music.

Although in the middle of this…I just can't…

*Rise*

I immediately throw away the CD portable player.

Miki- "I'VE HAD ENOUGH!"

I cover my face with my hands while sitting down.

It's time again...where I have mental breakdowns.

Miki- "I'VE HAD ENOUGH OF THIS!"

Miki- "HEY, WHY?!"

*BANGING*

Monsters- "Gooo"

Miki- "!"

Miki- "...No! WHY?!"

*BANGING* *BANGING* *BANGING*

The monsters have started banging on the door because of the noise I made.

I cover my ears but It continues.

Miki- "No…"

Miki- "No…"

I move from the couch and hide behind it as I curled up like a ball and tremble in fear and I cover my ears.

Then It hit me. I remember the letter that gave me hope and happiness 3 days ago.

Miki- "Where...where is it?"

I stood up and tried to find it, even my legs are trembling right now.

I managed to find it and go back to the spot I was on earlier.

Miki- "...If...If I only have the guts to escape here and meet with the person who wrote this..."

As you know, I have figure out the puzzle that this letter has and surprise, surprise the puzzle gave a name of the place they're located at. I know this place so badly but the problem is...I can't leave unless those things outside disappear, or I have a very good reason to do so...

Hours have passed and It's bedtime.

I'm laying down on my bed right now.

Miki- "There is no way, I'm fine with this."

But I won't lose.

I grip on the letter.

At some part of the city, there's a guy laying down on his bed in a suitable base, in his tent.

There are pros and con living in a large group and suitable base.

Pros, you got protection from the monsters who turn a normal human being within 2 hours into one of them once bitten.

Cons, there's a chance your group will get corrupted depending on the leader, runs out of supplies such as food and water also medicine. Increase the chance of contracting diseases and lure tons of zombies because of how many people are in a single area.

And to be honest with you, I rather survive in a small group of people instead of a large one.

Because base on my experience living with a large group of people is quite shitty.

Kenjiro Roy is my name, call me Kenji for short. I'm one of the members of this large group.

I have been surviving on this group for 5 months now, I used to be a third-year high school student at Megurigaoka Private High School before this shitty outbreak happened. I ended up on this group after the first leader welcomed and save me on the first day of the outbreak.

But how's my life right? Well really shitty.

At first, it is great because our leader was an amazing guy, just like a hero who save people who are need of help.

But he died from a bite 4 months ago, trying to save a small group of survivors.

Then that fucker becomes our leader.

He only became one because he made a deal with some of the people who carry guns in the group.

And the ones who went against him has been shot to death and eaten.

Oh yeah did I also mention that the new leader is crazy and is a cannibal.

He also forces people to be like a cannibal like him.

Not only that he invented new rules and changed a lot of stuff that is just ridiculous and inhuman.

Such as changing the way we let new survivors join in.

Instead of welcoming them with open arms like from the past we have these two new ways to let a newcomer in.

One way is a new survivor must bring a fresh human corpse that they just killed and offer it to the community then you can join.

Second is if you are in a group, you must kill your fellow survivors and the last one standing can join the group.

Don't you think that's just messed up?!

I'm one of the few people...no I think I'm the only one who is still against him and not following him to be a cannibal.

But why I'm I not dead yet?

Because I'm a scavenger. We scavengers go outside and bring whatever supplies in.

We only stay on the base during night time to sleep.

I usually don't get hungry because I eat the food I found outside.

So he really can't do anything to me or force me to eat another human being even It's cooked because I'm outside most of the time and only goes back during the time everyone is already finished with dinner.

But I pity the people who are in the base.

Why? Well, each week there will be a person going to be put on the chopping board. Yes by being killed and used as a food source.

It wasn't like this until a month ago were running low on food supplies to support all the people in this large group.

And to solve that, the fucker said, "Kill the useless one and serve them as food for the others"

His the worse than those monsters outside.

Kenji- "...But with this...I made up my mind to leave this shitty place."

I took out the letter I found 3 days ago out of my pocket to see it again. I already read it and It gave me courage and hope to decide to do something big. Which is to get away from this place once and for all also destroyed this community.

But not right now, because I have to find the right time to get away from this place and meet with these people that wrote this letter and destroyed this community, by throwing multiple grenades I found not long ago to the barricade to let those monsters come in.

Would that be murdering the innocent people here? Yeah but they deserve it. They're mostly cannibals now, their nothing special to me anymore. The people I looked up to and trust in this group have died by going against the new leader or become a food source to everyone in the group.

The people here are just going with the flow with the new leader. Pretty much there aren't any good people in this community.

Like the people who are also scavenger like me. I don't think they are trustworthy anymore too but they pose a threat to me because they can chase me outside and kill me after I did something horrible to the community.

That is why I'm waiting, waiting for that day only I will be going out instead.

Kenji- "I just hope that day will come sooner than later…"

I put the letter on my pocket and went to sleep.

Meanwhile at the school.

Yuki- "I've just come up with something good!"

I actually got woke up from this.

I saw Yuki sit up on her futon.

Zach- "Kurumi...could you please, let this girl go to sleep..."

Yuki- "Ah Zach-kun you're awake, would you like to listen-"

I called out for Kurumi as I ignore her.

Zach- "Kurumi!"

Finally, she wakes up as she turns on the lamp.

Kurumi- "*Yawn*..."

Kurumi- "What?"

Zach- "Deal with her…please."

She looks at Yuki, while Yuki is excited to tell what she has come up with.

Kurumi- "What is it Yuki?"

Kurumi answered her while she looks half asleep and sits up.

Yuki- "It's is something really fun!"

Kurumi- "Right, right what is it?"

Yuki- "That is…"

Yuki- "Look forward to it tomorrow."

When I heard that I got mad that I actually said.

Zach- "Kurumi, karate chop her, like...right now."

Kurumi- "Way ahead of you!"

*CHOP*

Yuki- "Oww!"

Then Yuuri woke up.

Yuuri- "Geez…What wrong?"

Yuki- "Kurumi-chan just karate chop me!"

She went to hug Yuuri as she squeezes herself on her boobs.

Yuuri went to scold Kurumi.

Yuuri- "Don't act violently."

Kurumi- "She was the one acting pompously."

Yuki- "But, but...wouldn't you look forward to it more~"

Looks like Kurumi get her intention, same goes for me.

Kurumi- "If I tell you that "There is something good tomorrow too," rather than letting the cat out of the bag right now?"

Kurumi- "Okay, okay."

Then she lay down.

Kurumi- "I got it, but you should have said it before going to bed."

I decided to step in.

Zach- "Yeah, senpai."

Yuki- "Oh don't get so mad Zach-kun~"

Zach- "Why wouldn't I, It's the middle of the night for crying out loud."

Kurumi- "Yes, yes. Mister Zach, I think you need to calm down and let's all just go back to sleep okay?"

I let out a sigh.

Zach- "Goodness...fine"

From this point, I don't know what they're doing because I turn around but I could still hear them.

Yuuri- "Look, what you did Yuki-chan. You made him upset."

Yuuri- "Next time, don't do this again, okay?"

Yuki- "Mm!"

Yuki- "I'm sorry, Zach-kun I won't do it again."

Zach- "Go to bed."

Yuuri- "You're right, well good night all."

Yuki- "Sorry again, good night."

Kurumi turns off the lamp.

I'm surprised Megu-nee and Ruu didn't wake up from that. I guess they're just in a deep sleep state.

Yuki- "Kuhuhuhu."

I got mad.

Zach & Kurumi- "Got to sleep already!"
