She stormed into the doctor's room and shouted at the doctor. " Am I pregnant?" she screamed.
A
panting nurse ran in the doorway, " I'm sorry Doctor Nightjay. I
tried to stop her, but she was too fast." The doctor looked up
from the long scroll of patient notes he had been studying.
"
Mrs Potter, I thought your appointment was next week" he said.
" I need to know, am I pregnant?" she stated again.
"
Can we have some privacy Nurse Smeltching?" he said, peering
over his spectacles.
" Yes, Dr Nightjay" she said closing
the door. Before the door closed she heard the other patient say "
But I was next" to the nurse.
" Sit down, sit down" he said pointing to the chair in front of her. " What has happened to make you think you may be pregnant?" he said whilst offering her a cup of tea. Placing it on the table in front of her. She took a quick sip and placed the cup down the table. " I saw some memories, in a pensive, Harry was trying to get me to remember. I saw a scene where I told him I thought I was pregnant."
" And you asked him about this?"
"Yes, he said I was ill and it was a false alarm."
" And you have reason to doubt him?"
" I, um," she was stumbling over her words. She wasn't sure what to say, and then the words were there. They just seemed easy to say. " Somebody told me I was having an affair. I can't be sure what is accurate at this point." She was clutching her bag to her chest, as if it would help protect her.
" Ah. When you were brought here we would have done a primary scan which would of picked up any pregnancy. I don't recall that you are pregnant, but if you wait here I will just get your parchment."
He shuffled to the door. " Mrs Potter. You may like to drink the tea, it may help you to relax."
Relax, how the hell was she supposed to relax. Who was she supposed to trust? She didn't know whether she was coming or going.
He unravelled the parchment, looking for the relevant information. " Well, Mrs Potter. Your scan confirms that you are not pregnant. I think it's time you went home and spoke to your husband about your personal life. He's the only one who knows the truth. I will see you back here for your appointment next week."
"Thank you, sorry for barging in on you. I just needed to know."
"It sounds like you need to talk more. Once you know what really happened, then it may help you to remember, when you're not so stressed."
"Thank you doctor." she said leaving the room and heading back towards the floo, taking a deep breath and going home.
" Ginny. I was looking everywhere for you. I went to the burrow. I went to Hermione's, I went to Sharon's. You weren't anywhere. Where did you go?" concern could be seen in Harry's eyes.
" I
went to St Mungo's. I needed to find out if I was pregnant."
"
But I told you, you weren't" he stressed the "Told" part of
the statement.
She swivelled her gaze, so that she wasn't
staring directly at him. " I don't know who to trust, who to
believe. You only showed me the good parts. What about the
arguments? What about her letters?" She spat out, as if
giving her a name would make it real, make her a person.
" I didn't mean to. It's just, those are the parts we didn't want to remember. I would never lie to you" he said, brushing her hair and then stopping himself. He did that a lot. She pushed his hand away.
" I think you should tell that to Malcolm."
He looked confused "Malcolm?"
"Malcolm told me we were having an affair, you don't have to lie about it now."
" You and Malcolm?" He laughed.
" What's so funny, I don't understand."
" You couldn't stand him, called him an arrogant prat and asked the editor to take him off your reports. If there's one person in the world you were not having an affair with it's Malcolm."
" Why would he lie?"
" I don't know. More importantly why would I lie?"
She knew he was right. She felt like screaming! She was never going to get to the bottom of this. Unless. She would need Hermione's help, she was always good with potions. It could be done though.
