A/N: Okay everyone, here is the REAL chapter 10. Sorry for not updating for so long but on the bright side soon I'll have a month to be able to try working on more chapters! To be honest I have been wanting to write this chapter for a looong time, yet each time I tried I had writer's block...which resulted in a few side stories that shan't be posted. However now to take a break before writing Distorted Views new chapter, expect it hopefully within a few days. After the 30th, don't expect many updates, a lot of my time will go to studying for finals until around Dec 13th. Sorry for any mistakes, this hasn't been beta read due to the fact that I wanted to get this out as soon as I could. But anyways, I hope you all enjoy the chapter, and sorry it took so long!
Ch 10
Isaac
"Just as I thought…" I mumbled to myself quietly, eyes still on the screen. The battle still went on inside the simulation, yet it wasn't due to actual combat going on. The program of Kyber's beloved was still very much on the offensive, however the lupine being tested still kept to dodging and blocking instead of actually fighting back. To be honest I had expected this turn out, but that didn't mean I was pleased about it. There was a lot riding on Kyber's success, and this was a rather large weakness that could turn the tables if things went badly. Without another word, I was about to terminate the simulation, however something happened to catch my eye on the screen. I was in slight awe at what I saw, and yet, despite wanting to see how everything played out, I ended the program.
Kyber
I barely managed to get out of the way as Wolf now lashed out against the air where I formerly stood. Nothing had worked, I had found no way of snapping him out of it, it seemed as though the silver lupine was determined to fight me and had no interest in doing anything else. I had tried getting behind him to immobilize him yet he made it nearly impossible.
"Wolf…" I said quietly, yet he was still able to hear as he approached. My eyes downcast and ears drooped. I heard a bark of laughter that accompanied my word.
"I already told you, I'm not interested. Besides, I'm being paid handsomely for your head. Now quit stalling and either fight already or lay down and die." Just as Wolf lunged for what could have been a fatal strike, the lupine found himself suddenly being launched into the air, unable to hear the next words that followed.
"I'm sorry." I finished. I could no longer disobey what my body told me. If Wolf was this hell-bent on fighting, then he'd get a fight. I steeled myself against the emotional protests that my mind screamed at me as my body got into a fighting stance. I was allowing my body to act purely on its instincts, and those instincts had registered the other living being in the room as a threat. After hearing a loud crashing sound I turned to face my enemy, finding them to be dusting themselves off, a smirk showing as they did so.
"So you finally show some backbone, eh? Good timing, I was really getting bored." I had to remind myself with every word he spoke, with every step he took that this was not the one I knew as my beloved. Despite my mind's blatant disapproval I kept reminding myself this wasn't real, that he wasn't real. The shock that my mind was in began to fade as it then told itself that it was just another fight, just another skirmish. The two of us each dashed towards the other, Wolf going for a roundhouse kick, only to be swept off his feet as I ducked underneath the swing and lashed out with my own low sweep. With a small growl, Wolf got back up, and the close combat ensued, every now and again both of us using our surroundings to our advantage.
Realizing his disadvantage in close quarters, Wolf jumped back, deciding to switch to a more ranged offense as he pulled out his blaster. As a volley of shots were fired, only one managed to singe my fur. Wolf was a problem at close range just because realistically, Wolf knew my fighting style, however an O'Donnell at long range was even worse. I knew from personal experience that Wolf was very accurate with that blaster of his, and that was without it being trained on me. Being as unarmed as I was, getting into close range wouldn't be the absolute best idea, given the sharp bayonet that was attached to the weapon, but maybe there was a way to distract him just long enough for me to get into close range and disarm him… After more shots were fired off, I took one of the desks that wasn't bolted down to the floor and threw it in his direction. The moment Wolf moved to get out of the way, I was upon him, pouncing the canine and wrestling for control of the deadly weapon. Unfortunately I had forgotten that Wolf O'Donnell had much more than just his blaster as a deadly weapon, yet was painfully reminded as the silver lupine on the floor bit into my arm, and lost a few teeth in the process.
Before anything else could happen, everything around me froze, I wasn't too sure why this was happening but recognized it as the professor pulling me back. In a few moments I was back amongst reality, with a concerned tiger looking at me.
"Kyber, are you alright?" The worry was evident, and it irked me ever so slightly.
"I'm fine, no thanks to you." Before the tiger could respond I added, "Why did you do that? Why him, and WHY did you decide to end it THEN and not earlier?" I inquired, crossing my arms as I awaited a response. It was with a heavy sigh that I received my answer.
"I had to." I was about to open my mouth until I found myself unable to because a hand clamping my muzzle shut. "Think Kyber, just for one moment, think. You're being searched for, by more people than you know. I'm not the only one risking my life by hiding you, Lorelei, Leroi, Ember too; all of us are putting our lives on the line for you. Do you know what could happen if you get captured? You might be killed, you might be tested on more, you might be locked up for the rest of your life, but it's not just you, the lives of the people around you could very well end up being cut short all because someone found your weakness. I had to know what you would do in the event that Wolf DID end up helping those who are against us. I know you trust that Wolf would never do that, and that he would stay by your side. From what I've seen of him, you have every right to, however I would rather have an idea of what may happen than be caught completely unaware. We have big plans for you, plans that could change Lylat for the better, but they're all for naught if you end up dead or lost to us."
The professor's words had effectively silenced whatever I was about to say, the professor did have a point even if I didn't like it. I still hated being left in the dark about everything that was going on, but it seemed that even the Isaac was struggling in the dark, trying to make his way to the light that was his desired outcome. He let go of my muzzle after a few seconds and I quietly got up.
Isaac
"Hey…dad.." The words surprised me somewhat, Kyber almost never called me that unless there was something on his mind.
"Yes Kyber?" To say I was curious was an understatement, I wasn't sure what to expect after all that was just said and done, the surprises continued as the canine looked up with a curious look and asked,
"Do you think we can plan a party for Wolf? I think his birthday is coming up in a few weeks and I wanted to do something special for him." A small smile formed on my lips as I chuckled softly, enjoying the rare reaction of his eyes lighting up as the response "Of course we can, we'll get started right away, what did you have in mind?" came from my mouth. To think that a boy, who was just in a fight to the death, was worried about throwing a party for his lover… He'd be sure that everything went off without a hitch, both of them deserved that much.
A/N: Not much to say here except for Thanks for reading and I hope you guys review. Hopefully a few more updates will be out before the 30th but until then, have a great week!
