Most people did not know that Johnny Gill was a bit thrifty. After all, the man fixed his glasses with tape and refused to buy even coffee from the commissary. His giving nature belied his unwillingness to spend even a dime. But more importantly, one of his favorite pastimes was finding coins on the floor.
It had not taken Lavi long to collect spare change from his room. Lining the coins up was especially fun, though people did give him odd looks. Hopefully no one picked them up before he was ready.
Now that he was in the main atrium, it was time for the piece de resistance. Carefully, the chronicler applied a bit of epoxy glue to the back of a large pound coin and stuck it to the floor. For good measure, he stepped on it lightly just to be sure the glue had a good hold. He waved to a few Finders passing by, ignoring the Swiss guards lined up against the walls. One of them gave him a look, and he held his finger up to his lips.
He walked back the way he came toward the Science Department. As per Johnny's schedule, he should be walking by in five, four, three, two...
"Hello, Lavi! You look awful pleased. What's going on?"
"Oh, I just found this pound coin on the floor. Looks like someone might've dropped change back there."
"Are you serious?! Oh, man, this must be my lucky day!"
A/N: An oldie but goodie.
