EPILOGUE
It had been ten years since that chaotic day. Lydia was as good as gone, Wickham was in prison, Georgiana had married Richard, and Jane and Charles had two sets of twins in a row (conveniently one set of boys followed by a set of girls).
Lizzie and William sat in their study and didn't even wince when a large crash was heard from the hall.
"JAMES! GIVE IT BACK!" A young voice called.
"IF YOU CAN'T GET IT THEN YOU CAN'T HAVE IT" Another one called.
"Should we intervene?" William looked up from his letter.
"No. But let us go and watch them sort it out among themselves." Lizzie stood and took his hand. "I have something I wish to tell the family anyways."
They made their way to the door and quietly opened it to watch as ten year old William took to the hall, yanking a doll out of nine year old James's hand.
"James, it is not fair to treat Anne so. It isn't her fault she can't get it back, shes too small!" The two brothers ran about the hall, while six year old Anne just stood in the middle.
"We really should do something." William whispered as he moved to the stair. Lizzie grabbed his arm.
"No. Watch Anne." She pointed to the little girl.
Anne waited until the boys slowed, then charged at the two, tackling them to the floor. She grabbed the doll out of James's hand and stood once again.
"If you two would act like my big brother's, then I wouldn't have to disgrace you in front of mother and father." She looked up at Lizzie and William and waved. The boys hurried to their feet, tripping over each other in the process.
"Hello boys." William said sternly when the two of them reached the bottom of the stairs.
"Hello, father." They both mumbled.
"Willl, James, do you have something to say to your sister?" Elizabeth said.
"We're sorry, Anne." William said.
"Yes. We're very sorry." James added.
"Apology accepted." Anne hugged her doll.
"I have some news for all of you." Lizzie broke off from William and took a few steps away. "Would you like to hear it?" She turned around and faced the group. A chorus of agreement sounded. "Very well. You are going to have another brother or sister." She smiled at the group. All four of them rushed up at once and the group embraced.
The children returned to the nursery and William and Lizzie returned to the study. As the door closed, William picked Lizzie up and spun her in a circle.
"Why did you not tell me sooner?"
"I was waiting for the right time." She kissed him. "You are not mad, are you? That I did not tell you first?"
"Love, I don't care if you told me in front of your entire family. I just hope it is another girl."
"Really?" Lizzie was surprised.
"Yes. So that way, we will have an equal number of sparring partners." He smiled cheekily.
Lizzie scoffed, and William pulled her into another kiss.
Six months later, a cry filled the room and the midwife came out into the hall.
"Congratulations, sir. You have twin daughters."
