Godzilla's POV
Things have never been quieter around a military base especially one that houses kaiju. I could say the same for most countries, there hasn't been a single kaiju or military incident in eleven months. With that information Kiryu has granted us a wider range of freedom off the base as long as we stay clear of the main cities. I spend my hours of the day rolling and soaring in the ocean tide. We only need to check in with the commander and return to base once night falls. I pull myself from the sea as the sky begins to change and fade to evening. As I leave the shoreline I report back, "Hey Gigan just calling in I'll be heading for the base." His usual pleasant metallic voice replies, "Roger that and could you please contact Rodan? He so far up in the atmosphere we can't make radio connections." Gigan inquired. "Not a problem, Godzilla out."
I glance up at the indigo, pink and orange sky and discharge my loud shrieking roar. I made the Earth quake beneath me and it penetrates the sound barrier. Eventually a trilling screech is heard coming back. Rodan descends out of the mess of colors, "What's the big idea G trying to ruin a bird's good time." He shouts in the radio. "Time to wrap it up for the night, remember? We have to be back at the base by sun down or we get our privileges revoked." I answer. He loops through the sky a few more times before responding. "Oh yeah kind of forgot I'll meet you there." He rises over the city and heads north.
As I arrive in the base I'm greeted by the officer's guards and I search out my remaining team mates. I'm told I can find two of them in the meditation garden. Placed in the center of the military complex, it was built to help soldiers deal with stress and other personal issues that may arise. Lush greenery is everywhere and fountains and wind chimes are scattered in various areas to ensure tranquility to those visiting. Inside I see Spacey floating above the ground in a silent state of his meditation. Anguirus isn't far; he's napping beside the large wall fountain and pond. I calmly approach, "Have you achieved enlightenment yet my dear brother?" I tease seemingly breaking his concentration. A smile slowly creeps onto his face, "I'm not quite sure I can say. It's hard enough for a human to reach I have no idea for a kaiju." He says gently touching the ground with a slight thud. "Where's our avian friend at?"
"He'll be here soon I had to call him out from the upper atmosphere." I reply. "Things are fine here in fact, I got message from Chika today. She's reunited with her mother and father in Tianjin they can finally start to put this war behind them like us." Anguirus adds upon the discussion. "Oh, speaking of which Red's been playing nanny since Keiko's helping the Serg with little Ayame." Spacey snickers. Poor Destroyah the guy is experiencing a whole new type of hell, it's almost funny. At that moment Rodan flies in joining the group we continue to talk in our new living quarters. Gigan updates us on the commander's bizarre condition; his mental systems are stable and now he can retain new thoughts and memories. The U.N. is also moving to declare the human kaiju war over in the next several days. As we settle in for the night our last member crashes into the room. "Hello Des nice of you to show up." I say mockingly to the exhausted devil. "I'm…Too… Tired…To give… A snappy…Comeback…G." Destroyah gasps heavily.
He crawls to another section of the room near Spacey lying on his stomach. He curls in a sad fetal position on the floor and breathes sporadically. "Really Des, helping the ladies with the newborn couldn't have been that bad." Rodan says doubtful in his team mate's attitude. "You weren't in there beak face… Yusuki and Keiko had me running crazy! Get this. Get that. Can you answer the phone? Can you clean up this mess please? I haven't slept in three days… So can you all just…Shut up?" He says loudly at first then becomes a mumble.
"If that's true how did you get out of there?" I ask interested. "When Keiko fell asleep and Yusuki had to feed the kid I scrammed, got my ass out before they saw me." We all grin and glance around at one another then Spacey pats Des' head like a pet dog. "Good boy Red." He doesn't respond of course he's drifted away and rough snoring steams from his nostrils. We soon follow suit and doze off into the quiet night.
The next morning I see Destroyah and Spacey have already left. Anguirus and Rodan are still fast asleep. I sneak out to the corridor and check in with the receptionist, she tells me Spacey went to see Dr. Himekawa and Yusuki dragged Destroyah back on baby duty. Knowing I'll probably never get another chance I decide to drop by and pay the sad devil and the happy family a visit. First place I look is the mess hall Keiko and Yusuki enjoying breakfast, Kiryu just a few feet aside from the table and Destroyah in his Juvenile form emptying a pot of coffee. "And you're killing your immune system with hot caffeine because?" I jerk a brow at his actions. "Four days, four days without sleep they won't cut me a break. Now I have to piss every fifteen minutes… G these women are gonna kill me." He utters despairingly and proceeds to slam his head on the table. "Being a little whiny aren't we Des I mean you slept last night." I say. He growls and drops the coffee pot, "Ughhh…Fuck…youuu." I walk away quickly before he can throw any more foul words my way.
"Good morning Godzilla how are you doing?" The commander asks happily. "Well, better than Mr. Coffee addict over there." I point to the poor sap himself, who insists on hitting his head on the table. "He may not realize it now, but I truly appreciate what he's doing. I'm unable to physically aid Lin and since Destroyah can by alter his body's structure. When Hakari gets my order for a more suitable body I'll owe Destroyah a great debt." He states his eyes firmly on Yusuki and Ayame. "So I heard the U.N. is going finally end the war, is it true?" I say not wanting to be wrong. "That's the plan; I will accompany the Japanese government to explain the status of relations between humans and kaiju. If they approve we can withdraw military forces immediately and restore appropriate civil rule over countries." He turns to me filled with hope.
"Commander…" I say my voice dwindles as the question racks my mind, I haven't considered this end game at all. "After the war is over what will happen to us? I mean you created us for the sole intention of ending the fight between kaiju and humanity." Kiryu closes his eyes and then opens to me, "That's your choice not mine." He says so simply. "You'd just let us go?" I ask baffled at the proclamation. "Who am I to tell those how to live their lives? We get one life don't you think that's fair for everyone?" He poses a question to me in recant. I didn't expect an answer like that, "Thank you Kiryu."
As I attempt to wrap my head around what Kiryu said I get a call from Rodan and Anguirus. Apparently there is a place, Namsan to the south and they want to show me something. To avoid commotion in the cities I take to ocean route where I eventually meet Anguirus. "Would you mind telling me exactly what it is you and Rodan want to show me?" I bob my head above the surface. "Not entirely sure myself G, but Rodan found something at the Gyeongju national park." Anguirus replies. Hours later we reach the high misty peaks of Gyeongju, the mountains are covered in opulent forests and hulking stone cliffs. "Wow, I didn't think places like this even existed anymore." I gaze in awe. "Knowing Rodan and how far he flies, he was bound to find something of interest out here." As we scale the mountain side we catch up with Rodan, he's perched on a ledge near the top landing. I pull myself up on top the peak, "Alright Rodan we're here what's the big surprise?" I call out blinded from the mist.
He swoops out of the fog and hovers for a moment, "Follow me…" It's all he says. We oblige trailing after him through the wall of fog. "When Kiryu gave us this extended range of freedom I took the chance to see if there any places left that hadn't been conquered by humans. Turns out a lot of humans want to preserve nature so the government created these parks. Not only to preserve nature but also their history." Then he halts in front some towering boulders, we stop as well. "What is it Rodan?" Anguirus asks coming beside on the outcropping. "This…" He says finally landing. Piercing pass the fog I closely guise at the massive rocks, there are detailed carvings within the stone. It appears to be a human man sitting, his legs folded and in the same meditation form Spacey is always in. "This is the Buddha the originator of an ancient religion that's still practiced to this day. The story of the Buddha was that he was a prince and saw how the world suffered. So he began a journey of enlightenment to find spiritual purity. One day while beneath a tree he abandoned his worldly desires and attachment to the world. He had become enlightened." He finishes the tale.
I stare down at him puzzled was that really the only reason he brought us here? "Nice story… But why did you bring us up here?" Rodan glances toward me and replies in a most surprising manner. "To teach you a lesson…" He returns to looking at the carving. "We live in a shared world. Even if we try to ignore the humans we'll interact with them none the less. When I heard this tale for myself I realized not all humans are like we think. Some do truly care for others and want to help the world like Kiryu." I keep forgetting or want to forget, that the world isn't so black and white. "Thank you Rodan." I smile. We head back to the base before someone notices we're too far out. Stepping into our quarters we find Spacey sitting on the floor and Des' head resting on his lap. "Hey when did…" I go to say but Spacey quickly shushes me. "Red just crashed from his caffeine rush ten minutes ago. Let's hope he doesn't wet himself later tonight."
"So where were you three today?" Spacey asks in a whisper. "Rodan took me outside the city to teach me a lesson." I answer him plainly. "A better question is did Red learn anything?" Anguirus teases. "Well he's getting decaf from now on." Spacey replies. I stay silent for almost twenty minutes as I think back to what Kiryu mentioned earlier. About us living our lives and how we choose to live, I want everyone's opinion on this see where they stand. However as I go to ask a voice calls to our attention, suddenly Jolts is at the door frantic. "Godzilla please Gigan and I need your assistance immediately!" He cries. We all jump as soon as we hear it, "What's wrong?!" He breathlessly tries to calm down. "It's the commander we can't find him and his internal tracker isn't functioning, its all white noise." Destroyah wakes upon the uproar, "The hell is going on?" He coughs unaware of the situation. "Son of a bitch!" Spacey curses. I knew this little glitch with Kiryu wasn't over it was too good to be true.
"Jolts get back to Gigan we'll search for Kiryu and open all radio channels." I order. "Yes sir!" Jolts salutes and sprints off. I tell everyone else to comb the base and chime in if they catch him. In the chaos of this abrupt position Yusuki pages me over the radio, "Godzilla where is my husband? He left us on the bridge without saying a word?" She says confused and fretful. "Yeah already on that!" I shout. Stomping through the base is getting us nowhere; thankfully Anguirus spots a trail leading from the bridge to the docking bay. As we regroup and arrive the place is destroyed small fires scattered around, pieces of metal thrown everywhere and motionless bodies of workers and soldiers. Rodan moves in to inspect the body that is the chief mechanic; the scene is hard to swallow. "Dead… They're all dead." He quivers.
I refuse to believe that the commander did this yet there's one shred of proof that proves me wrong. Despite his sleep deprived condition Des sees a large and perilous weapon isn't present in the docks. "Uh… Guys the buster weapons pack thing is gone, the one that goes on his back." Destroyah grumbles. Shit whatever happens now Kiryu has his flight arsenal, "Gigan please tell me you fixed the tracker! We have reason to think the commander is armed and extremely dangerous." I say. "I'm afraid not Godzilla the signal has been cut off indifferently." Gigan recants. "Damn where could he have gone?" Spacey wonders aloud. "What about the colony?" Destroyah takes a guess. Gigan comes back swiftly responding, "I don't see how, Imperium has been out of commission for weeks now." And that's the prefect retreat for wanting to hide; we had to get there as soon as possible.
We have Gigan call up Evans to pilot any available convoy transport. "Your pilot is in route meet at launch pad A level 7's area hasn't been affected." Gigan informs us. Fortunately the ship is ready to depart as we get on but we run into a new problem. "What's the deal take off already!" Destroyah yells. "It's not me the ship has reached its max weight limit." Evans explains. Spacey offers to fly but that's half the issue, there's extra stuff in the storage compartment under the ship. Even less tempered than usual Destroyah rips the compartment open and tosses the unneeded equipment. "Light'em up fly boy!" He screeches hitting the wall to the cockpit. In seconds we're off the ground and exiting the atmosphere of the planet. I'm tremendously anxious of what we'll find has the commander really lost his mind or worse?
Once the ship is securely docked to Imperium we waste no time tearing the abandoned station apart. Bewildered at every turn the commander is nowhere, not in the command center, corridors, labs or barracks. Growing frustrated and impatience we dive deeper into the station merely around. The core, off limits to passengers, crew, and even most military staff, only certain few could enter. Hallow and housing nothing but the cryo filters where else would someone hide. We knock the main door down and go in cautiously. Gradually the scent of blood traces the freezing air surrounding us. "I'll shoot and say we're real close." Destroyah mumbles sarcastically. Pushing forward the cold vanishes and is replaced by hot industrial smog. What the hell is he up to in here?
Stepping further it's all finally shown to us full view. His back is to us his blue thruster pack is loaded and he seems to be standing in front of doors. We soundlessly approach I narrowly eye him I feel as if he knows we're here. "Kiryu…" I say softly. But the voice that responses is not one I recognize. "So the commander's pets have finally caught on…" The insane speaks from Kiryu's body and his eyes are pure red. We are all still at the stranger's tone, then we receive another astonishing stock. "I know that voice…" Gigan utters suddenly. "You… You were Prime Minister Hayato Igarashi. You were the one that first established the GDF Bio-Weapons project." We pause momentarily staring at one another confused by Gigan's testimony. "Hmm clever little program…" The imposter smirks. "Of course I know this I have all the military records and files archived in my hard drive. Two years after the mechagodzilla incident in Tokyo in 2003 the GDF and the Japanese government gave up on the project. And you were impeached out of office due to a mental breakdown." Gigan describes the old events. "Your unhealthy obsession in eliminating kaiju and weapons of mass destruction, people wanted new ideas. While you were stuck in the past." Gigan ends obviously disgusted. "If that's the case how did he get in the mech suit?" Spacey probes. "So very glad you asked." The imposter laughs. "Before it went downhill, I had a few loyal friends in G force get me into special operations the same that your dear commander was selected for." Each word he says raises the anger in my veins. "But how did the scanners and diagnostics miss you?" I'm the next to inquire. "I hid my consciousness in areas you'd say were glossed over. So when your dear commander Kiryu was put in charge of the war, I began my little hijack scheme. Not only of your commander but also your Imperium…"
Those words Destroyah snaps we know who this man is, the maniac killing on the colony, and the monster responsible for stealing our leader. Hayato Igarashi, once Prime Minister to our nation, now a tainted mind driven mad by his own ambitions. "You sick bastard what you did to those people, to Kiryu and to Keiko!" Destroyah charging to kill, yet he falls to the ground screeching in agony. We glance back to Hayato, he's pressed a button on the wrist of the mech. "Tsk, tsk do you forget you were kept on a chain and you still are…" He sneers. The high voltage electricity surges through his system until it at last subsides. "Why are you doing this?!" Rodan cries. Hayato shakes his head, "I have my own reason the likes to which you animals won't understand." He recants smugly. "Oh yeah that's rich coming from a whack job!" I snort bitterly. Then he turns away again to the large metal doors. "You've served your propose playing war for your commander and are no longer required." He says triumphantly.
"You can't just dispose of us…" Anguirus growls. "On the contrary anti-kaiju weapons have been successful…" Hayato chuckles pulling a switch, then orange alert lights flash on along with an irritating alarm. As the doors slowly open the cold realization of the commander's odd behavior and loss of memory… He was a puppet. We behold the maniacal workings of his twisted soul, mech suits, each one modeled after us. Except one… Me but as Hayato steps before his creations I understand, he is my opponent. "Initiate genetic targeting systems." The mad man demands and his mechs process vials of fluids. "That's… That's our…" Spacey stammers. "Yes, your blood I took on Halloween night. Whether or not my bugs lived passed the night was not my concern, it was gaining your genetic material that did. Knowing that DNA would be kept under lock and key by Hakari and his scientists, I had to make other plans." He says methodically.
Soon the mechs come online their eyes glow a hateful red just Hayato's do. Full arsenal packs like Kiryu has; this explains where he'd been, China it produces the largest amounts of steel in the world. Exactly where'd he need to go to construct these beasts. "Enjoy these last mere hours you have in this world… The king of monsters has died once and he will so again." He gestures his metal copies to us and they break from their cable and wires restraints. "SCATTER!" I roar, "Split and move to different parts of the colony. We can manage each one on our own, right? They're just copies we can beat them!" I encourage my team.
"Hell yeah, these cheap imitations don't stand a chance against the real things." Destroyah says confidently. "Sounds so reassuring Red, one tiny problem… The biological safe guard on our collars won't allow us to fight." Spacey rejects the idea of brawling. "Our levels have to be at least seventy percent to use radiative attacks." I radio Gigan again, if he's able to release the safe locks. "I'm only giving eighty percent; it's a precaution and please try not to hit the core!" He warns reluctantly. Eighty percent that's all we need to combat these fakes. I advise a finally order to my team, "Listen guys to avoid interference no more contact with each other for the time being. For now we all go solo." The com is silent and I wait in the soldiers barracks calmly, as Hayato no doubt is after me.
…
I haven't heard a squeak since hiding in the barracks, not a sound. The reverberating moans of the walls and dashing dust balls whirling on the floor in the distance. I breathe scarcely, grimacing. I eye the adjacent hall, I know he's heading this way I sense the scratch the ground. My heart beats faster in every passing minute he hasn't found me. Where is he, that perverse freak has to have followed me… And I'm right. A cold metal hand burst out of the wall snatching my snout another grabs my neck. "Boo…" He whispers chillingly to my ear. I quickly reach behind his head wires and the artificial spines, throwing him off me and slamming to the ground. He stands suffering nothing, "You brute, this mech is made of alloys not natural of this world." Hayato derides.
I strike him again pinning him to a wall. "Take a good look asshole nether am I!" I growl. He snickers glaring back, "Yes, there's just one minor difference." Then without warning his right hand converts to a drill and slice into my chest tearing away muscles and veins. "You bleed…" He says conceitedly. He immediately launches missiles; in any other case they wouldn't affect me. These ones are new, something poisonous is packed inside. I choke and feel paralyzed as the missiles hit me constantly. I rush to the exit; I crash to the floor, dying of the toxins assaulting my body. I need to retaliate but I can't produce the atomic breath if I'm choking on poison. I have to create a blockade to slow him down, if I'm going to clear my lungs. I pry the iron wall supports and enforce them to the door to the officers' private quarters. After that I head to the civilian half of the colony, it's easier to fight here there's more room.
It doesn't take him long to get free of my snare, but now I'm ready. Shards of metal go flying as Hayato blows the door trap open. When he appears I turn a corner and bombard him with my atomic breath. I catch him off guard while he's engulfed I send my tail into his skull. He falls to the ground I seize the opportunity; I grab his head and gouge out one of his optics. Sparks shoot out and his circuits go crazy on the new damage. Snarling, Hayato prepares his wrist blade with huge currents of energy. Holding one wound eye socket and charging at me with the other I avid the swings. I get an advantage, his left side entirely blind he's open to attack. I grip his side, body slam him and attempting to disable any weapons I can. I succeed in tearing off one of the missile carriers and use my breath to the remaining ones from firing. Hayato isn't quiet for long, he pushes me away and shoots plasma lasers; they leave a slight dulling pain as they hit me. I easily remove the laser blaster, he even the scores by tossing me like a doll.
Eventually the fight climbs and reaches the commander center. There's not much to say about we're just literally beating the crap out of each other. The metal tips of the mech's claws are like tiny razors, gashing my skin piece by piece as they hit. However, the same can be said for the mech's protective alloy, its wearing down and fast. I keep blasting my atomic breath and it seems to just piss him off to no avail. And yet he finds in some sick fashion of the moment to start laughing. I stand here in the middle of destroyed desks and computers monitors; agape at what this freak thinks is so funny. As the demented cackles soon stop and he lets me in on the joke. "To be fair Godzilla our time together has been fun… But the amusement for me is over. As they say at parties, it's time to bring down the house…" He extends the blade on his arm and drags it into the control panel, shredding the wiring and devices that regulate the whole station. My heart skips a beat as I realize what he's done and I feel myself become weightless. Severing the controls from all the systems' machinations we'll be caught in Earth's gravity. This colony will shatter on impact with us in it… He's doomed us all.
Author's Note: The truth is here and I'll leave you to figure out who Hayato is and where he fits in the canon Godzilla universe. I hope you enjoy please review I need feedback.
