So originally this was a part of the last chapter. But as I was doing my final read through of the chapter before posting I realized that this section didn't work with the last chapter. Oh well, double update though :)
That aside, welcome to the epilogue!
~The Last Ronin~
We walk down the beach, hand in hand, and I lean into him as we enjoy the sounds of the waves kissing the shore. It's been a while since we've been alone like this and there's a bubble of nervousness within me that's just waiting for our peace and happiness to end.
"Relax," Killian whispers, his arms wrapping around me as we stop to watch the sun setting.
For a long time we don't say anything and I try to do as he said. It's not hard, really, to just enjoy being here with him. The sun drifts lower and lower beneath the horizon and the nervousness gradually fades. In its place, however, is something else and I groan as I recognize it.
"Ugh.
Killian laughs and drops a kiss on the top of my head, "something the matter love?"
"Would I be a horrible person if I've decided that this happy ending thing sucks?" I ask and he laughs once more.
"And why is that?" He teases, though I can tell he feels the same restlessness, and I squeeze his hands.
"It's…boring," I say quietly, "and who would want a happy ending anyway? What's so happy about something ending?"
"What are you suggesting?" His lips brush my ear now and I turn to look at him, trying to get my thoughts in some semblance of order.
"Where's the adventure in all this?" I finally settle on, "What's that called?"
"Bloody Hell if I know," Killian grins at me, "how about we go find out?"
My only reply is to wrap my arms around him and kiss him until we're both seeing stars…and really this is all the happy…well, whatever…that I need.
