Chapter 10: Bring Me Home To You
I awoke the next morning to see the spot next to me was empty. I slowly blinked my eyes, stretching my arm over my head.
"Good morning, my sleepy red headed firecracker." I turned my head to see Kane standing by the sink, brushing his teeth...completely nude.
Oh, my...What a sight to wake up to…
I was now fully awake, my eyes almost to the point of bulging out of my head.
"I was going to wake you an hour ago but...you were sleeping too peacefully. I called and changed our departure times so we're leaving in about two hours." He retorted as he spit his toothpaste into the sink. He wiped his mouth on a small hand towel, turning around and facing me, exposing himself right in front of me. Oh, my. Here comes another nosebleed.
"Something you like got your attention, Miss Kassie?" He asked, raising a curious eyebrow. My ears and cheeks turned red with embarrassment as I threw back the sheets and got up, heading towards the bathroom to grab a shower of my own.
"O-of course not. I have no idea what you're talking about." I stammer as I disappear into the bathroom, shutting the door behind me. Kane stands on the opposite side, grinning in his satisfied attempt in getting under my skin first thing in the morning. After getting a hot, relaxing shower, I poked my head out of the bathroom door to see what Kane was up to. He was nowhere to be found. I sighed with relief and proceeded to tiptoe out towards my suitcase. I sorted through article after article of clothing until I found the pieces I was after: My black strapless tube top with silver tribal designs on the front, red skinny jeans, my black three-row studd belt, and my all around favorite Converse shoes. After flat ironing my bangs straight and brushing my teeth, I began applying my usual everyday makeup: Black eyeshadow, eyeliner, mascara, pale foundation to match my skin tone, and a red lipstick to match my hair color. I added the new pair of black widow spider earrings I had gotten from Paige to complete my look. As I was taking a final glance in the mirror, the door opened as Kane walked in, my head turning to meet his gaze.
"Hey, Kass-Whoa...um...I see you're ready to go...you um...look…" He lost his train of thought as a blush came to my cheeks, a grin spreading across my face.
"You sure you got everything?" He asked, his thumb pointing out towards his Hummer that was parked outside our hotel door.
"Because we're parked and ready to go." I giggled, my head nodding in agreement.
"Yes, I'm all packed. Let's go." I replied, grabbing the handle of my suitcase and rolling it behind me. He could only stare at me in amazement as he watched me walk outside to the SUV and load up my luggage. Meanwhile, Mark walked over to Kane, holding an ice cold beer in his hand.
"Boy, do you have it bad. I ain't never seen you act like this over a woman before. I'm glad you finally found someone for you, little brother." Kane looked at his brother with a deranged expression.
"Man, you really like sticking your nose in places where it doesn't belong don't you?! And why the hell are you drinking beer? Aren't you driving your truck to the airport?" Mark simply gave his brother a smile, wrapping his long, buff arm around his shoulders.
"I have driven Michelle all over hell and creation shopping this morning, so she is doing me a solid and driving us to the airport. So I, my dear brother, am enjoying a few well earned comforts." He explained, knocking a few gulps of his beer back. Mark continued staring at me as I texted the twins on my phone.
"She's a keeper, man. Don't fuck this up." Kane glared at his older brother before smacking him over the back of the head.
"Like I would do that. I think that drink's gone to your head, Deadman." He retorted snarkily. Mark shook his head before glancing to see AJ and a cameraman walking my way.
"Oh, boy...This should be good." Kane swallowed the lump that was in his throat as AJ approached me.
"Hey there, new meat. Just thought I would come and...say uh...watch your back next week. You never know what could hit you." I didn't have time to look up from my phone before AJ landed a sucker punch straight to my face. Kane and Mark both cringed as I collapsed to my knee as AJ skipped away, laughing hysterically. Kane rushed over, bending down to examine my face.
"You ok, Kass?" I hissed in pain as my fist clutched my swollen black eye.
"I'll kill that laughing hyena if it's the last thing I ever do." I seethed through clenched teeth. Michelle, who saw the whole thing, hurried over, helping me to my feet.
"Jesus Christ, Kassie, you ok, girl? Bitch, is total psycho. Thought I told you to stay clear of her." I stifled a chuckle as I still clung to my eye as I stared at her, Mark and Kane watching for any sign of AJ returning to finish to the job.
"Kind of hard to when the crazy bitch is in a storyline with your man." I replied with rage boiling behind my flaming emerald eyes. Her jaw dropped as she became flabbergasted.
"It's worse than I thought. It's more than a storyline to her. She's out to steal Kane from you for real, girl. No joke." I let my hand fall from my eye as I continued gawking at the blonde. Was this the reason why I felt so much rage? Is this why she trifled me so much? So many questions bombarded my brain and it made my head start to hurt.
"Come on. Let's get some ice for that eye. We gotta hurry. We've all got planes to catch." She ushered me into the hotel room and carefully doctored my eye for me. After pressing an ice pack on my eye for ten minutes, Kane and Mark walked in, both of them with vehicle keys in hand.
"Ladies, it's time to go. We both leave out at 11 o'clock so let's get a move on." Mark billowed, now in a rather momentous attitude. He tossed Michelle the keys as Kane wrapped his arm around my shoulders. We went our separate ways, Kane and I climbing into Kane's Hummer, while Mark and Michelle hitched a ride in Mark's jacked-up truck. The brothers always had a little gag going on about who had the bigger engine. Michelle said they were competing in the "downstairs" department. Which, Michelle and I actually discussed while we were taking care of my eye. We finally came to a determination that they were both of "equal" size after ten minutes of arguing like teenagers. Kane pulled out of the parking lot as I shyly pulled out my thick-framed black reading glasses and my favorite book from my carry-on bag. I silently slipped them on my face, opening the spine of my book, my eyes sneaking over to the man in the driver's seat. Kane stole a glance from me and smirked.
"Yet another thing that attracts me to you, Miss Kassie. The sexy librarian is an excellent look on you." I burned with embarrassment as I buried my face within the pages of my book.
"T-Thanks…" I muttered under a hushed breath, my heart racing by the way he was staring at me with those lust filled baby blues.
"It'll take us about an hour to get to the airport so please, don't let me stop you. Read till your heart's content." I smiled and blushed even harder at his kind words and turned my gaze to the words printed on the first page. Time seemed to fly by as we were suddenly there and I had read almost 5 chapters of my book. I closed my book and hopped out of the truck. I glanced to see security walking towards us.
"Get ready for the first part of your special celebrity treatment." Kane joked, opening up the back of the Hummer to grab our luggage. Security surrounded us as Kane nudged me on the arm as we began making our way into the airport terminal.
"Put your sunglasses on and keep your head down. We have a plane to catch and I'm afraid we don't have time for photos or autographs today. Maybe next time." My face fell as I nodded sadly. I did as I was told, holding my head down, grabbing Kane's hand, lacing our fingers together. Kane squeezed it for reassurance as security opened the double doors.
"Here comes part two." He whispered as I stole a glance from him through my shades. Paparazzi and fans alike were all being held back by security as we were ushered through the crowd of people. Cameras flashed all around us, reporters and news analysts bombarding us with questions such as: "Are you two officially together?", "When are you getting married?", and my absolute favorite "Is it true you're talking about having a baby?" I could feel my heartbeat in my ears as the never ending round of shutter bugs seemed to drag on forever. We finally reached our boarding station, handing the attendant our tickets. We stepped onto the plane, breathing out a collective sigh of relief. After putting away our carry-on luggage, we took our seats, Kane taking the seat by the window this time, remembering my slight panic attack on our last plane ride together.
"Part three in this little endeavor: First class. Excuse me, ma'am. What's your special?" Kane asked without hesitation. My eyebrows shot up. Could he afford all of this? The stewardess turned to us with a smile and clasped her hands together.
"We actually have three to choose from when you fly with us. We have our 1780 Barbados Rum, our very popular DIVA Premium Vodka, and our brand new, Ultra-Premium Ley .925 Pasión Azteca Tequila. Feel free to mix any of these drinks with anything you like or take them on the rocks." Kane turned to me and smirked a rather mischievous grin at me.
"Well, Miss Kassie, what will it be?" I gawked at him for a few minutes, momentarily distracted by the look in his eye and that very sensual way he was smirking at me.
"Um...I'll take a Screwdriver, please." I asked, still staring at Kane's face.
"And I'll have a Tequila on the rocks." Kane instructed, his eyes never leaving mine. The stewardess nodded her head and left to fetch our drinks, leaving us completely alone. Wait a second…My head whipped around to see the entire first class seating was empty except for Kane and I.
"There's a second part to that part three. Private plane." Kane grinned, his hand running up my thigh. I turned beat red as my head whipped back around to lock eyes with him. My emerald eyes were wide with embarrassment, my face as red as my hair. What is up with him and being so touchy feely?!
"Relax, Kass. You'll get use to this soon." He smiled as the lady returned with our drinks.
"Your ETA is in five hours, Sir. Your usual choice in movie, I presume?" She asked, handing Kane the remote to the huge flat screen that appeared from behind a wall that raised up.
"Let's do last year's Wrestlemania, please. Kassie needs some lessons on her competition." I smirked as the WWE logo appeared on the screen. AJ was shown in the ring in a match against Natalya and Beth Phoenix.
"Watch AJ closely. Study her movements, watch her techniques, her timing, her executions. Memorize them like the back of your hand." He spoke in my ear as I watched with the utmost anticipation. I made mental notes of every move she had in her arsenal, recreating in my own mind, my own techniques and tactics on how to overthrow her and take her down.
"This should be easy enough." I say, sitting back in my seat. Kane wore a proud smirk as he looked me up and down.
"I love that feisty confidence in you, Kassie. But I think the alcohol is getting to you. AJ is one agile competitor in her own right." I pursed my lips out, waving my hand dismissively.
"Oh, Kane, please. I can run circles around that girl. If she was that much of a real competitor, why did she get her ass handed to her last night?" Kane chuckled, shaking his head in disbelief.
"Man, Mark was right. I always go for the hot-blooded types." I cocked my eyebrow at him, now not in the least bit of a good mood.
"And is that such a bad thing, Mr. Kane?" I asked, putting quite an emphasis on his name, popping my lips as I pronounced it.
"Oh, by all means, Miss Kassie...not at all." He answered in between chuckles. I scowled, glaring daggers through the big red demon.
"I'm sorry, Kass, I really am. But you seriously have to think about it: You could have an off night, your head may not be in the game. She could upset you." He teased, pointing his finger towards me. I scoffed, crossing my arms over my chest.
"I'd like to see that ugly Wicked Witch of the West try." Kane once again, shook his head, laughter emitting from his chest cavity. We watched the rest of Wrestlemania, both of us finishing our drinks by the end of the last match. Before we knew it, the seatbelt lights switched on. It was time to land. As we landed safely back on planet Earth, I gave a little bit of a stumble as I stepped off the plane's steps. Kane's eyebrow cocked upward as he peaked over my shoulder, invading my now personal bubble now that I was a wee bit tipsy. He on the other hand was stone cold sober after a glass of straight Tequila.
"Are you sure you can make it through the crowd again in your current condition?" I pursed my lips out at him with a pouty face. How could he doubt me like that?
"Of course I can. You should know me better than that by now." A rather dashing smile appeared on his face as he dropped his head, doing his best to hide his laughter.
"My apologizes, Miss Kassie. Of course you can. You're a true, one of a kind competitor. It was my mistake." Was it the tipsy haze I was in or was he being a smart ass? I had no time left to ponder on my thoughts before I was whisked away by surrounding security officers.
"Good day, ma'am. Please, let us take your luggage. Please remember to keep your head down. It would be wise to hold your husband's hand until we get out there. We're short staffed on security." A gentlemen spoke, quickly taking my bag from me.
"Oh, um, we're not married, we're-"
"Kassie." Kane's voice boomed in my ears as I turned my head to see his hand outstretched towards me. I stared into his eyes for a minute before grabbing it tightly with my small one. He smiled before facing forward, his head lowered to the ground, even though he towered over everyone else, especially me. We then hit it. A barrage of screaming...running...daunting fans. They bombarded us like flies but security did their best to keep them at bay. I looked to see Kane look towards me and nod his head.
He then...let go of my hand.
He began snapping photos and signing autographs left and right with such refinery and poise, he had absolutely no flaw. Fans begged and pleaded for my autograph and for selfies with me as I stood there, dumbfounded. My inner bitch then proceeded to slap me, yet again, across the face. "This is your livelihood, dumbass! Don't just stand there! Make these people happy! They just made you a celebrity for God's sake, woman!" Whoa. She was right. I have all of them to thank for my success. And Kane of course. And my mother. And my guns of steel that like to knock psycho bitches like AJ on their asses...and I'm rambling. I slowly crawled out of my shell as I started taking pictures and signing autographs. The fans began screaming even louder when a fan asked to get a photo of her and Kane and I together. Kane grabbed me by the hand and pulled me into him, planting his lips on mine, right as the picture was snapped! I then swore I lost my hearing as the fans lost their shit. After a couple more photos and autographs, security told them to move on back and give us some space as Kane's Hummer pulled up, courtesy of the valley parking.
"Do you always have this thing shipped wherever you go?" I asked as he opened my door. He chuckled and helped me climb in.
"No, my dear. I just own too many of them in too many states." My jaw hit the floor as he closed my door, walking around the front of the big vehicle to join me inside the cab. He hopped in, inserting the keys and roaring the engine to life.
"Directions to your place, Miss Kassie." Kane instructed, glancing my way with a sexy smirk. I turned fifty shades of crimson and fidgeted with the ends of my fiery red bangs that tickled my cheek.
"Go down 5th Avenue, take a left onto 3rd and Maine, a right onto Maple Street, and then a left onto Rocky Mountain Drive. My house is the third one on the right." Kane drove silently, following my directions with precise instruction. Ten minutes later, we pulled up to a white and green two-story house with a large front yard, complete with the state tree: the blue Spruce tree. Kane climbed out, admiring the place from all angles.
"The place seems kinda big for just you and your mom." It then hit me that we hadn't really discussed my family that much. Guess now is as good as ever.
"Oh, but at one point, my mother had three rowdy boys and one grouchy tomboy to worry about. You can take a guess at who the tomboy was." I smiled as he gave me one in return. We walked up the steps as I fished inside my purse for the keys. I find them and insert the key inside the lock, unlocking the door and opening it. We stepped inside, the remnants from the first night Kane and I laid eyes on each other, still lay strew across the living room floor. My eyes narrowed as my heart rate increased. Kane put a hand on my shoulder as we moved into the kitchen and through the dining room towards the staircase.
"Um...upstairs is my old room." I muttered in a hushed breath, biting my thumbnail as a blush came over my face. Kane said nothing but simply began making his way upstairs, slowly looking around at the architecture of the house. Guess he was the type of guy who found it interesting. I followed him and led him to my room, wrapping my hand around the brass knob. I opened the door, opening it widely. Kane stepped in, gazing around in amazement. My walls were black with red baseboards, my walls covered in fan art drawings of me wrestling as well as a mixture of band posters, tv show posters, and horror movie posters. My furniture was black and silver marble with silver trimmings and matched the decor of the room rather well. The rest of my room was decked out in the "strange and unusual" things you wouldn't normally find on an everyday basis: Fragments of real human skeletons, autopsied and taxidermied animal carcasses, dissected insects, and some collectible religious items from all religious groups.
"This is...not something I expected to see. I'm at a complete loss." I was a bit perplexed as I could not tell if he was upset, put-off, or excited. I crossed my arms over my chest as I approached him, glancing up into his two-toned baby blues.
"Is that a bad thing?" He smiled and grabbed me by the shoulders, planting a solid kiss right on my lips. Shock washed over me but I kissed back, Kane pulling back a minute later.
"Quite the opposite, Miss Kassie. I find your extensive collection of rare oddities quite... riveting." He spoke with a hint of sexiness in his voice which only sent a painful twinge down through the apex of my thighs.
"Tell you what: When work brings me home to you, I will let you have free run of the house. Decorate it anyway you want." My eyes almost popped out of my head. He's talking about moving in together? Just then my phone began ringing in my pocket. It was Dr. Hagle. I pressed the answer button and put it to my ear.
"Ms. Kassie Devlin? This is Dr. Hagle. I'm afraid there's been some abnormal findings in your mother's results. I'm going to need you to come in right away."
