DISCLAIMER: All rights to her highness, J K ROWLING.
"Hey, Severus," said Gizelle, visibly bored as she walked up to the boy.
Severus smiled at her and motioned for her to sit down.
"How've you been?" she asked.
Severus replied with a small 'fine'.
Gizelle sighed, she was tired of doing this over and over again. Rather, Sirius was tired of this. Snape wasn't ever going to make a move, so what was the point of doing this?
Sirius looked around, twirling a lock of hair in his hand, getting ready to leave, but through his mind flashed the eyes of his best friend; the dejected eyes of his best mate whenever his dream girl rejected him, the bright eyes of his best mate when they won a match, the understanding eyes of his best friend when Sirius wanted time alone, the sensitivity in his eyes after he read Sirius' letter from home and most of all the welcoming eyes of his best mate when he decided to make Sirius his brother. He still remembered the day he had run away and James had let him in, without a question. He remembers how Mrs. Potter had led him to a room without demanding an explanation. He remembered how Mr. Potter brought home two extra tickets instead of one. He remembered how they treated him just like another family member, never showing pity, because Sirius hated pity. He remembered how they did it, did it all, and without ever asking for something in return. And for that, he would be eternally grateful.
So, with a toss of his long mane of curls, and a flutter of the eyelids, he said sweetly. "Severus, what are we?"
The sallow faced boy looked up confusedly at the girl before him and raised his eyebrow questioningly.
"I mean, are we friends or more?"
Severus took some time to reply, his black eyes staring into Gizelle's. He stiffened slightly and pursed his lips, "What do you think?"
Gizelle almost flinched, "I'd like to be…be more."
Severus smiled ever so slightly and said softly "I can't love you."
"Neither can I," muttered Sirius irritably.
"What's that?"
"Nothing."
Snape nodded and looked down at his books once more. Sirius didn't really want to listen to his sob story, but he knew it was part of the plan.
"Why can't you?" he asked.
"I keep certain things to myself," responded Snape curtly.
Sirius tried to looked offended, but instead ended up sneering which puzzled Snape. However, he didn't comment and Sirius was at a loss for words. He decided to play his final stroke, it was now or never.
"Well, then I guess I should be leaving."
"You just got here," said Snape.
"I know," she replied coolly.
Snape looked up at the girl and watched her slender form rise. "What's the matter?"
Sirius, rather Gizelle, smiled sweetly, in what seemed to be a very sarcastic way, and said softly but clearly, "I have enough friends."
Severus looked shocked for a moment, before the meaning behind that simple statement dawned upon him. Gizelle was already walking out the door, at a fast pace, her long hair trailing behind her. Severus knew, it was now or never. He had lived with regret his whole life, for various things. But most of all, regret for having lost Lily, and this time he was going to make it right. He was going to make his life better. He jumped up of his own accord, shocking a few Slytherins nearby who had never seen hum jump in his entire life. He trailed behind her, his heart pounding in his chest as he tried to formulate the words he was expected to say. He flattened his hair while running behind her, and tried to put on a smile, failing rather miserably.
"Gizelle, wait," he called.
Sirius stopped in his tracks. Bingo! It had worked. Funny, so many girls had used this on him, and yet he hadn't had the urge to run behind them. He had hoped it would work with Snivellus, though. And work it did. He turned around slowly and caught a glimpse of his hooked nose enemy.
"Yes?" he asked coyly.
"What would you say if I asked you out?" asked Severus, a bit too fast.
Sirius was actually impressed with the confidence with which the boy had asked and stood there stunned for a moment before he realized where he was standing and tried to croak back "I'd say it's about bloody time."
Severus smiled, for the first time in all his years, he smiled at Sirius. Of course, he didn't know she was Sirius, but he smiled at him, and that was that.
James walked into the dormitory, sucking on a candy and plopped onto his bed. Unfortunately, it was already occupied by someone else. James shrieked. Yes, James Potter shrieked. The body on the bed woke with a start and pulled the covers off themself.
"Merlin! You gave me a heart attack," said Sirius.
"I – I gave you a heart attack?" stuttered James, almost screaming.
"Blimey, I was just about to fall asleep."
"What the bloody hell are you doing on my bed?"
"I was too lazy to sleep on mine."
"It's two steps away."
"Meh."
James shook his head and rolled his eyes. Then, he tossed him a bag of candy. "Mum sent you some too."
Sirius grinned happily and opened the bag of candy excitedly.
Remus entered the dorm, engrossed in a muggle crime fiction book when he tripped over a pair of hunting boots and landed on the floor with a splat.
"Really?" he asked, clearly annoyed.
Sirius shrugged and shoved the boots under his bed.
"Why do you need those things, anyway?"
"Well, Remus, they are hunting boots, so naturally I would use them for hunting," said Sirius slowly.
"You don't even hunt," said Remus.
"You don't know that."
"Actually, I do."
"Prove it."
"How am I supposed to prove that you don't hunt?"
"Well, that's not my problem, is it?"
"That's ridiculous. I don't –"
"In fact, let's bet on it."
Remus shook his head, mumbling something about insanity and walked out of the room, leaving a chuckling James and a grinning Sirius in the room.
"You like getting a rise out of him, don't you?" asked James playfully.
"Occasionally."
James grinned and propped himself on his elbow. Sirius chewed on a rather bright jelly bean and grimaced. He spat it out and then stuffed a handful of candy into his mouth before proceeding to open his mouth and say something. James could hardly understand as Sirius said "Going on a date with Snivelly."
James shook his head, clearly not believing it. "Great, why don't we have a double date? You and Sniv, Evans and me."
Sirius gulped down the candy before saying "I'm serious."
"Hello, I'm James."
"No pun intended."
"That's impossible."
"Well, impossible is my middle name."
"I thought Orion was," said Peter who had just entered the room.
Both the boys rolled their eyes. "Pete, just a figure of speech," said James.
"I was kidding," said Peter in retort.
The other two boys, however, didn't pay any attention to him, and they didn't notice a disgruntled Peter walk out of the room, annoyed with the fact that they always thought they were better than him.
"Are you kidding me?"
"Not at all," said Sirius proudly.
James face visibly lightened up and looked like Christmas had come early. His eyes shone with delight, and his cocky grin turned into a genuine one as he jumped up.
"This is it," he exclaimed. "All I have to do is take a picture, show it to Evans, and it's done. LA-DI-DA!"
"I'm not sure Evans will be okay with blackmail, just saying."
"All is fair in love and war," said James dismissively.
"Anyway, how do you plan on letting me get to Hogesmeade without being seen?"
"Oh, don't bother. Snivellus won't want to be seen with you anyway. He'll –"
"That's rude. Everyone always wants to be seen with me. I'm like the new dress everyone wants to show off."
"Yeah, unfortunately Gizelle is a poor quality dress. Can't show her off."
"What's that mean?" asked Sirius evidently offended.
"Well, Gizelle is not a pureblood."
"Well, neither is Snivellus."
"But after Lily, he wants to be seen with a pureblood, to prove his worth again, you know?"
"Fine," grumbled Sirius. "But don't you call me a poor quality dress ever again."
"Marlene, you got a date?" called Lily from outside the bathroom.
Marlene glared at her, "What do you think?"
"What's Sirius so busy with, anyway?" asked Lily.
"Stupid Snape," gnarled Marlene.
Lily's eyes widened and Marlene immediately regretted her words and backtracked.
"Skate. Stupid skate, you know?"
Lily raised her eyebrow, and Marlene wanted to hit herself, what a silly excuse, but it was too late to change it.
"He wants to learn to skate. Transfigured the whole 3rd floor into an ice rink," finished Marlene.
Lily seemed to want to say something but Marlene cut her off with a swift goodbye and rushed out of the room, crashing into, coincidentally, her boyfriend.
"Heads up, Lily is suspicious," she said quickly and she was gone.
Sirius wasn't really sure what she said, because he was too busy listening to music with some sort of muggle contraption Remus had given him. He loved it, but wondered what Marlene had said, it had looked like a warning, but he shook it off with a shrug and walked up towards his dormitory.
