BrambleClan Story: Book 2 EP. 10- Darkness

Soulfire padded over to me, tail lashing. "Step away," She said to Spottedstar in a low growl. He stood up and took a few steps back. She swept her tail around me protectively, the fur on her spine slowly rising. Spottedstar calmly stared at her. "Leafpaw," she said, keeping her eyes on Spottedstar, "go back to camp." Head down, I headed in the direction of the camp, but stopped once I was out of earshot of the two, I thought about not being seen and stepped back into the clearing. They could not see me, but they were staring at each other so intensely, I thought one was going to pounce on the other.

"What are you doing here," Soulfire murmured her voice barely a whisper.

"Your apprentice is good at what she does, you know." Spottedstar said coolly. He pointed with his tail to the ointment on his flank.

Soulfire dug her claws into the ground, pelt bristling. "You didn't answer my question," Soulfire growled, "What are you doing here?"

"I'm just visiting," Spottedstar said, "I'll be on my way soon."

Soulfire jumped to her feet. "You're supposed to be dead!"

"Me? Dead? Oh no, I'm very much alive," Spottedstar said, smirking. Soulfire's eyes stretched wide.

"What did you do to her?" She gasped.

"Your apprentice? Nothing, really. We just talked for a bit and she gave me some herbs. She's very forgiving; that's a trait that is very rare in your 'clan'."

"How could I ever forgive you," Soulfire whispered. As she turned and began to leave, I hastily dashed in the direction of the camp, still cloaked in the method used to hide myself from others. I slowed my pace when I realized Soulfire was several fox-lengths. When I came to a full stop, I thought about being seen again. A bit of horsetail was clinging to my paw, so I flicked it off.

"Didn't I tell you to go to camp?" Soulfire growled. Her anger startled me. Spottedstar must have some really bad history with BrambleClan. I might as well get ready to get reprimanded.

That night, I couldn't sleep. My mind is filled with what happened today. Surprisingly, Soulfire didn't even talk to me for the rest of the day. She just quietly paced around the medicine den, tail lashing. Every so often, she would cast worried glances at me. I also thought about Spottedstar. He was so calm talking to Soulfire, then again, he's always like that. I still had more questions to ask him. Maybe if I knew his story, I could justify everyone's anger towards him. He had to have done something truly terrible. Soulfire said he was supposed to be dead and that she would never forgive him. Does that mean he killed someone close to Soulfire? If only I could reach into a cat's memories. Right now, I'm only able to detect feelings and thoughts and be able to somehow make myself invisible to other cats.

Why do I have such strange abilities? Was this really the "undeniable understanding" Spottedstar was talking about? Also, why would a ThunderClan cat come to me instead of a BrambleClan one? Sighing, I shook my head. BrambleClan has no ancestors. I am of BloodClan descent, but I doubt a BloodClan cat would even be in StarClan, let alone want to visit a BrambleClan cat and give her guidance. Slowly, I drifted asleep.

When I awoke, I was in a forest. Not the lush forest of BrambleClan, but the dank forest I was in some nights before. Not again, I thought to myself. Carefully, I walked forward. The air was still and silent. No birds sang, no prey was around, and no sun shined. This place is pretty depressing. Suddenly, something crashed into my side, pummeling me to the ground. A dark grey tabby tom was standing over me and pinning me down.

"Who are you?" He snarled.

"I-I'm L-Leafp-paw", I said, struggling under the weight of the large tom, "Please let me go!"

He sniffed me over and spat on me. "BloodClan! I should've known."

"What? I'm not BloodClan!"

"Yes you are! I can smell the stench on your fur."

"Please let go, you're crushing me!" I wailed.

"What good will that do," The tom growled, "You're already dead."

I flailed around, trying to get this horrible dream to end. "I'm not dead!" I yowled. "My name is Leafpaw and I'm from BrambleClan!"

"BrambleClan?" The tom inquired, "You mean that band of rouges living far behind ThunderClan territory?"

"Yes!" I screamed, gasping for air. The tom finally released me.

"I guess you're right," He growled, "I can feel your heart beating. Why are you here?"

"I don't know!" I wailed, "Where am I?"

"The Place of No Stars. Listen, You should go back to wherever you came from. This is no place for a tiny kit like you."

"I'm not a kit!" I snarled, tail lashing.

"Sure you are," the tom growled, disappearing into the mist.

"Hey! Wait!" I called after him. It was no use. His dark grey pelt and amber eyes had vanished, leaving me on my own.
