A buzzing noise sounded in the background, followed by a smashing sound which caused Liz Parker to sit straight up, looking around for whatever it was that made the noise. She took in the scene in front of her and started to laugh, her arms wrapping around her stomach as tears fell down her cheeks in mirth. It probably wouldn't have been funny to anyone else but with what she had been through in the past twenty four hours, hell, in the past six years, it felt good to laugh about something inconsequential. After the three had left Roswell last night there had been silence in the car the entire way back to the University. None of them really knew what to say...so they didn't bother saying anything.
It was without thought that all three headed towards Liz and Maria's room, Kyle immediately plopping down on the couch after grabbing a pillow and blanket from Liz's closet. It wasn't the first time he had spent the night there and it definitely wouldn't be the last. Apparently Maria had forgotten to turn her alarm off and since she had specifically set it next to the couch since it forced her to get out of bed to turn it off, it went off right next to Kyle's head. He, half asleep apparently had thrown the thing across the room, smashing it against the wall. Maria looked as if she was going to have a heart attack, Kyle had a pillow over his head trying to go back to sleep, and Liz was laughing like a hyena at the mess.
Again, it probably wouldn't have been funny to anyone else, but for them...it was a needed distraction. A distraction which ended with a firm knock on the door. The brunette looked around and saw Maria still staring at her alarm clock in surprise, clearly not all the way awake yet, and Kyle who had still not take his head out from under his pillow. "Guess that means I'm getting the door." She stated with a roll of her eyes, heaving her large down comforter off of her and padding towards the door. Opening the door she wanted to feel surprised at who was staring at her but really, it didn't surprise her at all. "Nice outfit." The voice snapped before pushing her way into the room, walking immediately towards Liz's bed and making it with a wave of a hand, sitting on it and quirking an eyebrow as if waiting for the brunette to close the door. Liz shook herself out of her thoughts, looking down at her outfit for a moment before closing the door. She knew that her outfit was odd, but it was what she slept in for pete's sake! A Mice and Men men's tank top (three guesses as to why she bought that), a hot pink sports bra, and a pair of gray pajama pants. Sure it wasn't stylish but it sure was comfortable.
"Have you absolutely lost your mind?" The voice sounded, her tone irritated. She chuckled darkly, shrugging. "I'm not sure what you're referring to but I can assure you I haven't...at least not today. I've barely been awake long enough to find it." She shot back, snickering as Kyle threw a pillow at the two of them. "Kyle Valenti don't even get me started with you!" The stranger barked out, to which Kyle pulled the pillow which had been over his head away and took a look at her. He shook his head, noting the outfit with a long suffering sigh. A black tank top, black boots, dark blue skinny jeans and a black leather jacket. The bag in which she had looked as if it was stuffed to the brim with stuff and he snorted, it probably was. "Yeah yeah yeah. What's your problem?" He asked, finally sitting up and noticing that Maria was doing the same at her own bed.
The stranger huffed again, shooting a glare at Maria for good measure, who simply put her hands up as a sign of surrender. "Did it not occur to any of the three of you to call me before, during or after your little jaunt to Roswell?" She asked with a sneer. The three friends looked at each other, knowing that they really should have called her...but unfortunately none of them had been thinking at the time. "Did it not occur to you that Tess could have been there? Did it not occur to you that she could have killed you all had she been there since you know her secret? Did ANYTHING go through those brains of yours that I have taught you over the past five years?" The woman sounded as if she should have been screaming yet she wasn't, instead speaking very firmly through clenched teeth. Her dark hair seemed to almost sizzle around her as her eyes took on a darker hue than normal. She was mad...and rightfully so. All three friends looked down, not wanting to meet the eyes of the disappointed woman.
Finally, as usual, Liz took the first step. "Listen, we're sorry. None of us were thinking. Plus I had a vision before hand so I had a little bit of warning...not much since I didn't believe it but from what I did see it was only the three of them." This news seemed to relax the woman a little, not much mind you...but a little. "L...I get it...I really do. But you have got to be more careful. You are the..." She started but Liz cut her off. "I know Serena...I know." She stated simply, hating the title, not wanting to hear it again. "Look, I was going to call you in a little bit..." Total white lie that would not hurt her...but that was okay. "We are going back to Roswell today and staying for the weekend. You are more than welcome to come with us." Serena shot her a disbelieving look, having seen right through her lie but decided not to say anything. She thought for a brief moment before shaking her head.
"No, you three head there as soon as possible and make sure to stay out of sight from your parents and theirs until you've got everything squared away. I've got a couple things to do here and then I'll meet you there this evening. Wouldn't want anyone to see me." She stated in a snarky tone. Liz rolled her eyes but nodded...no...it wouldn't do anyone any good for someone to see her.
With a wave of her hand Serena walked out the same she had walked in, quickly, slamming the door behind her. Silence followed before Kyle spoke. "Guess she told us." Maria snickered and before long the three friends were laughing again, jumping when a voice was heard from outside. "Get moving!"
Two hours later the three were back in Liz's SUV, though this time they had much more than just themselves. In the back were three suitcases, packed with enough clothes for the weekend, plus odds and ends for the three alien's. Also there were two tubs full of things that had been collected for them over the years and things that would make their reappearance much more believable. Liz was driving again, needing her mind on anything other than the coming attraction. Kyle was on the phone with his dad, letting him know to bring the hybrid's to the quarry. They really should have waited until dark but none of them felt as if they could put it off any longer. Maria reminded them that they had told the others that they had classes to which Kyle snorted. "They probably know we were lying but oh well. Just say we ducked out and decided to make it up." The two girls simply nodded, afterwards saying nothing else.
Liz pulled off the main road and down the maze that was the road towards the quarry. Dirt kicked up behind her car, though it came all around the car when she immediately pulled into a stop. She noted the SUV that was there already, four others standing around it. She, Maria and Kyle jumped out, leaving everything else where it was for now. No one spoke for a minute before Jim finally broke the silence. "I'm going to head back to the station, keep an eye on things from there. Call me if you need me to pick them up." Liz waved it off, shaking her head. "It's fine. We'll be fine with the six of us to get back to your place." She replied. Jim tipped his hat to them before walking away, wishing he could stay and yet at the same time grateful that he was leaving. He knew there would be some blow ups and he really wasn't sure if he wanted to witness them.
"So, how was everyone's night?" Kyle asked finally, breaking the silence. Everyone simply stared at him, not sure if he was being serious or not.
TBC! I am so sorry for the insanely long wait! I PROMISE I will not make you guys wait nearly as long next time! I hope to get another chapter up relatively soon but I am done making promises as I cannot keep them with my work and school schedule. Please review! It gives me major muse! 3
