Chapter 9

At the Order, Kat sat on the couch in silence. Her eyes were closed as she was concentrating on having herself warp through Limbo. Vergil stood to only stare at the monitors. "Where are they? Mundus isn't out in the open and this is the second time the University became a prime location." Vergil could only make assumptions as he was not able to get in contact with any one of the three due to Limbo interfering. "Sir, we still cannot find them within the camera perimeters. The last area was the University and Ran is holding the demons back." One man said, giving Vergil the update on the current situation. Vergil walked around the room to ponder thinking of what he should do.

Mundus did not know about Vergil, Ran, and Siren's true identity being an enigma to the public. He didn't know of Siren being an angel nor that her body even gave the hint of having angelic abilities. Not as if they were strong to detect her. "Ran is still at the University." Kat thought as she was able to locate him with ease. "Ran, can you see me?"

Ran snapped his eyes wide seeing a transparent form of Kat. He turned away to slam a demon into the ground with his weapon. "You shouldn't be here. You know that." He remarked. Kat knew that the angel is not in the mood for small talk. "Dante and Siren are missing. Also, we got to go back. A wave of these demons will arrive if you don't leave." Kat told him before she ran ahead. Ran followed her from behind.

The hallways were cleared out, but the outside had a few demons remaining. Ran took a moment to think as he flew past the female to kill the lesser Stygnians. "Can you locate the others?" He requested. Kat nods and focused her attention on the feathers that were covered in blood. "I can see how far this leads, but are these hers?" Kat asked before trailing off not knowing if Siren would be in good health because of the blood loss. Kat followed the splattered puddles of blood until it reduced in size. The two were in a hurry to find the others. A number of feathers lessened as they ran further away from the college. The city was full of demons and neither Dante nor Siren was found. Even if they were around, the two were not in sight.

"Where the hell are they? If she has grown her wings then it's bad to worse." Ran stated as he looked around the buildings. Kat was only a few steps ahead of him and crossed her arms trying to figure out what to do. She did not want to leave them out in the open; it was too dangerous. Siren was too weak to survive in limbo after a certain amount of time. Yet, neither Ran nor Kat knew the truth for that reason. "Shit. They couldn't have gone that far." Ran tried to figure out where they could have been. "Only way that they can be around if…" Ran thought.

"Someone is behind…this." Siren breathed softly as she leaned against the wall in pain. She was not exhausted because Dante had carried her. However, her dormant powers and the influence of Limbo were too much to handle all at once. Dante peeked out the window to see if any demons walked on by. He had taken a detour and the two ended up in an empty apartment building. "We only have a few miles left, but it's too far for you to take." He said as Siren breathed steadily in order to keep herself calm.

"Two words: fuck…this," Siren mumbled softly until she heard a knock on the door. "Come over here. I'll kill them." Dante walked over to the door and Siren moved behind him. Just as the door knob turned, Dante had his finger on the trigger. Without a moment to spare, the door opened and Dante had the barrel of Ebony at Ran's forehead while Ran had his blade against Dante's throat. Kat walked past the two men and looked at Siren.

"Dad," Dante said. "Boy." Ran retorted. There was an awkward silence until Kat cleared her throat. "Let's go," Kat said and placed a seal on the floor. "No squirrel semen?" Dante questioned in a sarcastic tone. He pulls his gun away and Ran did the same with his blade. "No. I'm not physically here to spray that." Kat answered allowing her tattoo marks to take over and the seal began to glow. The seal looked like a distorted Pentagon from its shape Ran closed the door shut to keep the demons from noticing. "Okay, it's done," Kat said giving a nod to signal them to hurry. Ran guided Siren to step onto the seal and everyone was able to escape Limbo.

"So you got your powers," Vergil said as he paced back and forth in the room. Siren was laying on the couch. Her body was exhausted and weak. She had her head pressed against a pillow. "The blood isn't from a demon…" Siren covered her forehead with her hand. She was almost to the point of being a vegetable if the two did not find her and Dante. "I am glad that you are safe; however, we need to figure out who we need to strike to catch Mundus off guard," Vergil says before he sat down in a chair.

"Look. We are not doing shit until Siren is rested and the rest of us are better. Ran had to take on all of those bastards by himself in order for me and Siren to get out of there. And whatever spell Kat did, she needs to take a break too." Dante had snapped for a second knowing that he needed a break. Everyone did. Ran was tired. Kat was mentally strained. Siren was just at her limit. "I understand your concern, but we need to keep attacking until we can find a way to wound Mundus up," Vergil explained knowing Dante was not in the mood to argue. Neither was Vergil.

The twins had enough stress for the day. "Bob Bargas." Ran spat out before either twin could say another word. Dante raised an eyebrow in slight confusion. "What?" He questioned. Ran tossed a newspaper at Dante which the man did not catch. The newspaper hit his chest then fell on the table. "The hell is this?" Dante questions once more and grabs the newspaper. He let out a laugh seeing his name in the tabloids, but that minute faded once he saw the photo. "Shit. Siren's involved in this." He thought as his expression became serious. "I guess the 'missing woman kidnapped by the heathen' story will be broadcasted soon enough.

"Hell, now spotters are looking for Siren now. I blame the cameras." Ran folded his arms across his chest. Siren turned her head to look at Ran. She was in shock, but she did not know how to respond to hearing this. A kidnapped victim? That was rich. She was now in the news and has become a target for Mundus. "Excuse me?" Siren wanted to get a better explanation of how she was a victim of kidnapping and Dante being the culprit. "You need to stay here. Even you can't go home." Vergil stated. Siren abruptly sat up and shook her head. She did not want to stay at the Order's hideout, let alone with Vergil. It would be too awkward.

Dante flirting with her in front of Ran was a completely different story and not him doing the same behavior in front of his brother. Vergil still did not know about the two sleeping together. "I prefer to stay in the apartment. I have clean clothes there." Siren protested immediately. "We can have Ran bring you a few spares," Vergil said. "I'm not her servant here. If Siren wants to stay at the apartment then she can stay." Ran intercepted. He did not need Siren being pressured. "Alright. Since that's settled, we will go after Bargas in a few days." Vergil agreed. "I need a time when I can drink." Siren yawned and went back to lying down on the couch.

"You and I both, I need something strong." Dante sighs and tosses the newspaper onto the table. "I mess with the ONE woman who is an angel and gets labeled as a kidnapper." Dante thought as he glances at Siren who was now sleeping. "I'll take Siren to the apartment in the morning." Ran said as he took his time before leaving the room. Dante turned his attention back to his brother. "Siren is not getting involved in this any further." He said. Vergil's normal expression remained. "Dante, her powers can help us stop Mundus. Even though, Siren can't handle Limbo for long. You and Ran do not need to do all the work." Vergil explains his reason. Dante narrows his eyes and steps closer to stare down his twin. Vergil did not back down. "Siren is not getting involved any further. Her powers are off-limits. Push her into doing anything reckless and we are settling this." Dante added.

"Why are you so concerned for Siren? You barely know the girl and have gotten attached to her." Vergil spoke not raising his voice. Siren remained asleep not hearing any part of the conversation. "She's just a friend and she is similar to what we are-minus the demon part. Besides, she doesn't dislike either of us for having demon blood." Dante gave his reason. Only a moment of silence passed and Vergil shook his head. "She maybe understanding, but don't lose focus on getting rid of Mundus." Vergil finished speaking then left the room. Kat and Ran were watching the news even though they overheard the quarrel without giving the commentary.

"I know that Bob Bargas is pretty popular. He's the one that has the mouth when it comes to Dante and the media." Ran said ignoring Vergil who had walked into another room. Kat relaxed by sitting in a chair. "You trust Dante a lot, to the point of him keeping Siren safe," Kat states, her eyes never leaving the monitor screen. "It's better than the idea of him fucking her." Ran chuckled tiredly. Kat looked at Ran, her face displaying slight confusion.

"Is he-" Kat was about to ask, but she abruptly stopped when Vergil came back into the room. Ran coughs to clear his throat while Kat stood in silence. She was not comfortable about Dante possibly sleeping with Siren while Vergil is trying to use her into awakening her abilities. She did not want to bring up the subject. The twins just had a quarrel. "I'll take Siren home in a few hours. Hey, is it possible for you to talk to Siren more? I know you two rarely communicate, but it's not bad being friends with her." Ran requested the favor from Kat. It was true that the two rarely interacted, but then again the two did not have much in common. Siren was a college student who had a loving family and Kat was the opposite.

"Sure. I trust Siren enough. Maybe being her friend might do something good." Kat accepted the favor. The woman did not have any friends, to begin with. "We do have a couch you can pull out to use if you need to sleep as well." Ran added before he changed the subject. He had hinted a sound of cheerfulness, but it faded. His eyes displayed a tone of depression. "Being an angel is like a double-edged sword. Yeah, we get wings, yeah, we get the 'holy' title, but when demons are in control of shit and you do have any horn-blowing buddies to help you're screwed. Hell, the process of having the wings if not being able to have them pry out when we are born sucks." Ran said in a calm manner. "You two are half angels?" Kat asked. Ran nodded as he fixed his glasses with his middle finger.

"Yes, while I learned of my abilities early as a teen, I was able to learn how to use my weapon and wings. However, they would only work while I am in Limbo. In this world, we heal and preach, but facing demons...it is our duty to eradicate them." He explained. "So, what will you do if we are able to face Mundus? Even though, he wants to keep all the angels out that includes you." Kat said. She was learning what Ran though about the situation. Ran was similar to Vergil when it comes to thinking, but the perspectives were different. However, both men equally respected each other.

"Sir, there has been a report about a couple of angels existing in a couple of areas." One man spoke as Mundus stood in his office staring out the window. His eyes did not glance at the followers. "Angels? A simple eradication shall do. Hell, I might even rip out a heart and feast on a decent meal. However, you…you little pest is in my way. Just because you have the balls to cause a headache and you dragged an angel from hiding to stand up against me." Mundus says in strict confidence.

He watched the city to think of what demons he would send to kill Dante. Lilith, who had sat on the couch, stood up and went through a list of names from the Devil's Dalliance. "Why not have Bargas drawn him out? Once the pest is busy then I can snatch the little princess and torture her for the show. Have her in a costume while torturing the little bitch before killing her on stage." Lilith suggested. Mundus had a small expression of satisfaction appear on his face.

The sight of an angel being humiliated and the world seeing the event made a chuckle escape the man's lips. Everyone would rile up in praise. "I think dear, that we will have some fun. Little pest…someone will be dead."
