"Daemon, are you coming?" I called to him. Jeez, he was taking forever in the closet. I though he just had to grab a jacket? Shaking my head, I reached down to pull on my boots. But as I began to pull the zipper up on my right shoe, I thought back to the test.

I could hardly wrap my head around it. It seemed so sudden. It was so unexpected. My head felt like it was about to combust. But it wasn't a bad shock. After taking the test, the pregnancy seemed more…real. And the idea of Daemon and me with a baby seemed more realistic. While I was a little unsure about my own role as a mother, I knew Daemon would be just as amazing at being a father as he was at everything else he did. I hoped he would be as happy as I was when I told him tonight during dinner.

While I pulled on my left boot, I heard the closet door open behind me. "Hey, so do we still have to pick up balloons tomorrow?" Daemon didn't answer, but I heard him take a few steps forward. "Daemon?" I asked. Again, no response. Just silence. Confused, I turned around and saw him standing on the other side of the room, completely frozen. He was staring at something white in his hands. Craning my head, I tried to see what it was.

When I recognized it as the pregnancy test, I froze too. Crap, I had forgotten that when I heard Daemon come in, I couldn't think of a place to put it, so I had hastily stuffed it into my pocket. I must have forgotten to take it out when I went to change pants. Crap.

After what seemed like years of silence, Daemon tore his eyes from the test in his hands, and looked right at me, his emerald eyes burning into mine. I tried to see what emotion he was feeling, whether he was mad or happy, but he just looked shell-shocked. He didn't look any one way or the other, he just looked shocked.

Finally, looking as if it took a tremendous amount of effort, Daemon asked in a shaky voice, "Is this, is this yours?"

His eyes searched mine, and I quickly began to tear up. Folding my hands under my chin, I nodded slowly.

Daemon's mouth dropped open a little more, but he continued to just stare at me. He didn't say anything, he just stared.

Nervous now, I said hastily, "I-I know this is a surprise. Trust me, I just found out about it today, and I know we were going to wait, I-I, well, we hadn't even really talked about this before," my voice was blubbering like a baby now, "and I know that we just wanted it to be us for a while, but, but –" he was still just staring, not saying a word. Tears began to stream down my eyes. Maybe I was wrong, maybe Daemon didn't want to be a father at all. That idea just made the tears stream faster. "I-I don't know what happened, I was on birth control. I'm, I'm sor—"

But before I could finish that sentence, Daemon was suddenly in front of me, clasping my cheeks with both of his warm hands, and he was plastering my face with thousands of light kisses. Hiccupping with tears, I placed my hands over his, trying to look at him, but he just continued to cover my face with tiny kisses. Finally, I heard a sobbing noise come from his chest, and he rested his forward against mine with his eyes closed, a grin splitting his lips.

"Daemon?" I whispered, voice cracking.

He pulled back, and when he opened his eyes, I saw that his bright green eyes were glittering with tears. When he spoke, it was with barely contained emotion. "You're really pregnant?"

I nodded, and he bent down to kiss me again.

Pulling away, though, I asked in a shaky voice, "You're not disappointed?"

Daemon's eyebrows pulled in, and he pulled back, asking, "Disappointed? Kitten, why would you think I'd be disappointed?"

Wiping the tears from my cheeks, I said, "Because – because you weren't saying anything. And I know we had talked about having kids years down the road. Not now."

Daemon grinned as he wrapped an arm around my waist. "When have we ever followed a traditional timeline, Kitten?" He kissed my nose, and then both of my cheeks, before fitting his lips to mine. When he pulled back, his eyes were bright and he was grinning, "Sweetheart, this is incredible. I wasn't saying anything because I was just surprised." He bent down to place a tender kiss on the corner of my mouth. "I wasn't expecting it, and especially when Dawson and I had just talked about…" he trailed off, before letting out a huge laugh. Shaking his head, he continued, grinning, "Anyway, how could I not be happy?" His eyes searched mine. "My beautiful, smart, loving, perfect wife is pregnant with my child. We're starting a family. This moment is quite possibly the most amazing moment in my life."

As he spoke, his pupils began to glow, and his body began to emit a soft white light that bathed the walls, and I knew that he really was happy. I grinned and wrapped my arms around his neck. He buried his face into my neck, wrapped his other arm around my waist, and lifted me into the air. Spinning me around so that my legs twirled behind me. I was laughing, my head spinning a little, as he set me down finally.

Suddenly, he bent down so that his head was in line with my stomach. Unsure of what he was doing, and a little confused, I frowned and tangled my fingers in his dark hair. But then he slowly and gently lifted the edge of my shirt, pushing it up to the bottom of my ribs. He trailed his fingers across my belly, and my heart fluttered. Placing his hands very gently on my hips, he leaned forward and placed a light kiss right below my navel. He rested his forehead against my stomach, and whispered in a voice full of love, devotion, and wonder, "Hey there, baby. It's me, your dad." Daemon laughed softly, "You were a bit of a surprise, but," his voice grew heavy with emotion, "I love you so much already."

Tears streamed down my cheeks again as I watched him speak to my belly. I saw the tears land on his head, and I just began to cry harder. Seeing the way he spoke to my stomach and the look in his eyes as he did, I knew, that from the beginning, our child would be loved.
