Chapter Ten – Of Colours and Music
Kirra's POV
I yawned, the events of last night getting to me. We hadn't slept in the last twenty-four hours because it had been one constant problem after another. After Killi and Filli ran into the camp, proclaiming that there were trolls that had been taking the ponies and that Bilbo and Moya had decided to be brave enough to go rescue them, all of the dwarves, including us girls and Gandalf, decided to run to their rescue. I tried my hardest to use the fire power that I had within me, hoping that it would manifest itself in order to save my best friend, but it didn't spark or come out. I decided to use my fists instead, punching the trolls and the girls tended to Moya, who was knocked out with a head wound, from what I could see. After a while, I could feel myself becoming angry, and that's when my fire power decided to show.
Tamika and Anna stared at me as I stared at my hand, watching the flames that surrounded it. Then with a swish of my wrist, shot out the flames at the nearest troll. It howled in pain and I did it again and again until the trolls decided to get clever and they held Bilbo by the arms. I stopped, and walked over to Moya, staring at the monstrous trolls.
After putting most of us in potato sacks and a few of the dwarves in a spinning instrument of some kind, I kept looking at Moya, trying to wake her up. After a while, she did wake, but then fell into unconsciousness again. Then Bilbo decided to press for time as we both overheard that the trolls can turn into stone at dawn. I was relieved when I saw Gandalf and like the big powerful wizard he is, he shouted out about how the dawn will take the trolls and indeed it did, because the trolls then turned into stone.
It had been eventful night, but I was more worried about my best friend, who was still unconscious. Killi gave me a cloth and some of his water from his canteen. After some careful observation, she woke up, giving me a curious look.
"Hi honey, how are you feeling?" I asked, relieved that she was awake. I pressed the cloth to her head.
"Like hell…My head is pounding, like I hit it with a brick." She mumbled.
I smiled. "You kinda did…when Bilbo flew at you, you hit your head on a rock, causing it to cut open and now you have a gash on your forehead."
She nodded and began to sit up. I gasped, but helped her into a sitting position. She looked around and took in the sights around her.
She frowned. "What happened?"
I sighed. "Long story short, we fought, we got captured, Bilbo decided delay for more time when he heard the trolls could be turned into stone at dawn and then Gandalf appeared, acting all badass and turned the trolls into stone and we've just discovered that there might be a cave nearby, so they are going to go and search for that while we take our time to get there."
She nodded. "Oh…cool…"
I laughed. Tamika, Anna and I then helped her up and together we walked towards the others, who had gathered outside a cave. I sneaked a look and it was dark, looked like it was cold and it smelled…badly. Tamika and Anna scrunched up their noses at the smell and Moya just looked like she was going to be sick. I sat her down on a rock and observed her head wound again. It had stopped bleeding, but I needed to clean it.
"I need to clean your wound. It's gonna sting." I told her. She nodded and closed her eyes. I then felt a tap on my shoulder and turned to see Killi standing there with some sort of plant in his hand and a flask. The plant was green and it had a stalk with four leaves surrounding it, like it was a flower.
"Mead, to uh, clean the wound and this plant, Miss Moya can chew on it. It will take away the pain." He told me.
I sighed, smiling at him. "Thanks Killi. I was going to ask you guys if you had any alcohol but you seemed to have read my mind!"
Killi blushed and walked back to his brother. I saw him walk away and saw Gandalf and some of the dwarves walk out of the cave, carrying weapons. I shook my head and then turned back to Moya with the plant in one hand and the cloth and flask in the other.
"Here, chew on this. Killi said that it will take the pain away." I said. She nodded and grabbed the plant and began to chew on it. She gagged at the taste but kept chewing. Well, it must have been working if she was still chewing it. I opened the flask and poured some liquid onto the cloth and then started to wipe and clean the wound. Moya winced but kept chewing and then smiled.
"Pain gone?" I asked.
She nodded. "Yeah…just feel numb…just numb."
"Good, it means it is working." I said. I kept cleaning the wound and Moya kept chewing. After a little while, I finished cleaning and observed the wound. It looked okay, and it was clean. Moya stopped chewing and looked around her.
"What? Is everything okay?" I inquired.
She nodded. "Yeah…I just never realised how many colours there were…I mean this forest is filled with colours…"
I started to ask her what she was going on about before all of the sudden; Thorin had shouted that something was coming. All the dwarves then ran in front of us, including Gandalf and Bilbo, arms at the ready, ready to face whatever is was that was coming. I braced myself for whatever was galloping its way through the forest, when suddenly a sleigh of some kind jumped through the trees. A sleigh that was being pulled by a bunch of small furry rabbits, and riding the sleigh, was an old man, who wore robes of brown, a large thing on his head that looked like a hat and what looked like bird shit on the side of his head.
I marvelled at the sight before me, not believing my eyes. Tamika felt the same.
"Are those rabbits?" she whispered, on my right
I nodded. "I think so…"
"They look tasty…"
I jumped at the voice and turned to see that Moya was my left and was looking at the rabbits like they were dinner. I frowned at the sight of her. Her eyes were wide and she had a goofy look on her face.
"Moya, are you alright?" I asked.
She looked at me. "Oh yes...absolutely, positively alright…I like rabbits… and penguins…and turtles too… "
"Okay…" I said slowly.
"Is it just me, or does she look stoned?" Anna asked. I looked at her and then back to Moya. True to Anna's word, Moya did indeed look stoned of some sort. I frowned, wondering what could have caused her to become like this and then it clicked. The normal looking plant that Killi had given to me looked like the only explanation.
"Moya, where's the plant that you were eating? The one that Killi gave us?" I asked her slowly.
She smiled. "There are plants everywhere! In the sky, the trees, the ground…there are plants all around us! Isn't it wonderful?"
I nodded. "It is, but the plant that you were eating…where is it?"
She looked at me before spinning herself around in a circle and resting a hand on the tree near here when she got dizzy. I groaned and turned around, looking for the one person who gave us the plant. He was talking to his brother, listening to the conversation that was going on between Gandalf, and the man with the brown robes, who I heard his name was Radaghast. But I wasn't paying attention as I had more important things to worry about.
"I'm gonna kill him…KILLI!" I yelled
The said dwarf turned around and frowned, walking over to us. "Whatever is the matter, Miss Kirra?"
"What's wrong? I tell you what's wrong…what the hell is going with Moya? She's acting like she's stoned! What was in that plant you gave us?" I growled.
Killi gasped. "It's just a plant…it's meant to help soothe the pain. I suppose it might have some very unusual effects on people…well people like you."
"Ya think might have mentioned that before you gave it to us? She talking about trees and plants and bloody trees." I said sarcastically.
"Well, she's actually hugging the tree now, Miss Kirra." Killi pointed out. I turned around and true to his word, she was hugging the tree and kissing it. She had her eyes closed and I was grateful that only Killi, Tamika, Anna and I were watching her hug the tree. It was embarrassing.
"Mmmm…good little tree…I see trees of green….Red roses too…I see them bloom…for me and you…and I think to myself….what a wonderful world!" she sang.
I stood there in shock while Tamika and Anna burst out in laughter. If we didn't have the attention of the dwarves, we certainly did now. They stared at her, while Gandalf and Radaghast merely looked over their shoulder to see what was going on, then back into their conversation. I glanced at Thorin who looked at me strangely but then shook my head, turning back to Moya. She continued to sing as I walked towards her, carefully peeling her of the tree and setting her down on a rock. I sat down next to her.
"Now, Moya, no hugging the tree…and no singing…" I told her.
She sighed. "But it's a wonderful world…we should sing…Naked! We can do the rain dance! Call for rain!"
She started to take her robes off and my eyes widened, then I quickly shook my head and grabbed her hands pulling her robes back on.
"Perhaps another day, when they aren't so many people…perhaps never." I grimaced, gritting my teeth.
She pouted. "But we should dance because the earth is beautiful! So pretty…you're so pretty…"
She touched my face, her hand on my cheek, rubbing it and covering my face with her hands.
"I know…Moya…stop…Stop it!" I growled at her while she touched my face. She shrugged and looked at the dwarves. I turned to the girls and glowered at them.
"A little help please?" I seethed at them.
Tamika smiled, trying to hold back her laughter. "You seem to be doing fine…you'll be right."
Bofur had walked over and stood next to the girls. "What in Durin's name is wrong with her?"
I stood up and walked over to him. "Nothing, she's just experiencing…aftershock…from getting her head bashed in…trust me…I know…I'm a doctor…well sort of…"
I looked away and back to Moya, who had gotten up from her seat and was walking towards Killi. She stopped in front of him and I cringed at what she might do.
"You're so pretty…like an angel…" she whispered, staring at him with wide eyes.
Killi blushed. "Thank you Miss Moya…"
She looked deep in thought, before suddenly, grabbing Killi by his robes and placing a passionate kiss on his lips. I gasped, my eyes going wide as the dwarves looked on in confusion and Thorin raised an eyebrow. Anna burst out in laughter again while Tamika growled. Bofur jumped in shock at Tamika's growl and stepped away from her a little bit. Tamika clenched her fists and walked over to Killi, who seemed to be enjoying the kiss, and pulled Moya off him.
"Bitch, step away from the dwarf…" She scowled at Moya. She pulled Moya towards me and walked back to Killi, who had a strange look upon his face. Tamika shook her head and walked over to Anna, and stood, crossing her arms and giving Moya death stares.
"But he's so pretty…" she said in a daze before turning to her side, to which Bofur was standing.
She smiled. "You're so…no, not so much…"
She walked over the dwarves, who gave her not so happy looks and stared at them. I winced, glancing at Bofur, who looked sad.
"Don't worry Bofur, you're handsome in your own way." I assured him. He smiled at me and I walked over to Moya, grabbing her by the arm, and pulling her away from the dwarves and sitting her back down on the rock. I had only had a moment's peace before suddenly she was up again and walking over to the rabbits. I groaned, but let her be because she was away from the dwarves and the girls. At least the rabbits wouldn't care. However I was wrong because she had picked up two sticks and was banging them together.
Tap, tap.
Tap, tap.
I looked at her and she was slowly creeping towards the rabbits, which were staring at her and cocked their ears in confusion.
"Here rabby, rabby, rabby…where's that rascally wabbit?" she said in a sing song voice.
I just stared at her, watching her creep slowly to the rabbits, and I turned to see that Tamika and Anna were watching her as well, including the dwarves. I got up and walked over to her.
"Moya, what are you doing?" I asked her.
She turned to me, a crazy look on her face and in her eyes. "I'm gonna catch the rabbits…and then cook them for dinner…Rabbit stew…hehehehehehehe…watch me catch a rascally wabbit!"
I was about to stop her when suddenly I heard a howl in the distance. Everybody stopped to hear the animal howl and Moya cocked her head, listening intensely. I stared as she frowned, and then looked at me, her face getting brighter by the minute.
"Jacob has come!" She sighed, looking lovingly in the distance. I just stared.
"Jacob, from Twilight has left Forks and found me!" she whispered, clasping her hands together and sighing.
"Is she serious?" Anna said, looking at Moya with wide eyes. The dwarves were confused at who Jacob was. I rolled my eyes at Moya, who was still staring lovingly into the distance.
Bilbo frowned. "Was that a wolf? Are there wolves out there?"
Moya scoffed. "Of course he's a wolf! He's a bloody werewolf! He has come for me!"
Bofur stared at her. "Uh….okay, sorry to disappoint you Miss Moya, but that was not a wolf."
Moya gasped and was about to say something when suddenly Tamika screamed and pointed to the top of the hill. There, among the trees, was a wolf of some kind, but wasn't really a wolf. The dwarves gasped as the creature ran down the hill and was headed straight towards Moya and myself. I gasped as it closer, realising that if I didn't move, it would land on us and kill us and so I pushed Moya, who was gazing at the creature with a love sick look in her eyes, and we landed on the grass, away from the creature. Thorin suddenly pulled out his majestic sword and stabbed the creature, but then there was another, from behind him getting closer. Killi pulled out his bow and shot an arrow, but it didn't slow the other creature down. It was killed however, by Dwalin, who nodded at Killi. Thorin pulled his sword from the creature and walked over to me, pulling me up.
"Are you alright?" he whispered to me, his arm going around my waist. I hugged him, my heart beating fast and I breathed slowly, trying to calm down.
"Yes…I am now..." I assured him.
"What was that?" Tamika asked.
Still in Thorin's arms, I turned to her, and then looked at Thorin.
"Warg scouts…Which means an orc pack is not far behind." he told her. His arm was still around my waist, but it got tighter, as if he didn't want to let me go.
"Orc pack?" Bilbo questioned, helping up Moya, who still looked delirious. She shook her head and gazed at the creature before her. She gasped in horror and stared at Thorin.
"You killed him! You killed Jacob!" she screeched, heading towards us. I reluctantly let go of Thorin and walked to her, trying to calm her down.
"Moya, it wasn't Jacob…it was a different creature." I told her.
She frowned. "It wasn't Jacob? Then it was Professor Lupin then!"
I groaned, slapping a hand to my face. I really wanted to slap her, but instead I just held her, as she gave Thorin a look that could kill. Gandalf frowned at Moya before suddenly walking towards Thorin.
"Who did you tell about your quest beyond your kin?" he growled at Thorin
"No one…" Thorin told him.
"Who did you tell?!" yelled Gandalf.
"No one, I swear!" Thorin snapped, stepping closer to Gandalf. "What in Durin's name is going on?"
Gandalf sighed. "You are being hunted."
Everyone all looked at each other, wondering what to do next. Dwalin spoke first
"We have to get out of here." Dwalin whispered.
Ori came running in then, looking at everybody. "We can't! We have no ponies! They're bolted."
Then, a warg howled in the distance and it was close.
Moya smiled wickedly. "Jacob's pack has come for him…Paul and Jared is here…Pauly, has come out to plaaayyy!"
The dwarves turned and stared at her. Dwalin looked at her threateningly and I jumped in front of her.
"Don't kill her! She's a bit out of it!" I told them.
Tamika scoffed. "A bit? She's off her face! What does she think we are? The warriors? Oh what, the warriors, come to plaaayyy! She just had to go ahead and kiss a dwarf…she loves Bilbo but no she decided to kiss Killi instead."
"Tamika! Now is not the time!" I growled at her. "What do we do now?"
"I'll draw them off!" Radaghast suggested. We all turned to look at him.
"These are Gundabad Wargs. They will outrun you!" Gandalf pointed out.
"These are Rhosgobel rabbits." Radaghast protested. "I'd like to see them try…"
With no time to waste, the dwarves started to move; grabbing things they could run with, like their weapons and started to run with Tamika and Anna following them. Radaghast hopped on his sleigh and started to move, heading towards the direction of where the wargs' howls were coming from. Gandalf walked over to me and stared at Moya, who had decided to hug a tree again.
"Will she alright to run?" he asked.
"Can she run, that is the question." I said. Suddenly Dwalin walked over, grabbed Moya, who gasped and threw her over his shoulder and started to run. Gandalf and I looked at each other and shrugged. Gandalf took off and Thorin stood beside me.
"You stay by my side, at all times. Do you understand me?" he asked, holding out his hand to me. I nodded, taking his hand and together we ran, running away from the wargs.
0*0*0*0*0
We kept running, following Gandalf, who was leading the way. We then reached an open plain and hid behind a large boulder, waiting for Radaghast to lead the wargs away. I could see that Moya was struggling on top of Dwalin and was begging for him to put her down. Dwalin, who seemed to have had enough of her, had dropped her in which she landed on the ground and growled at Dwalin. Dwalin just shrugged and walked to the front of the dwarves, near Gandalf, who had spotted Radaghast and was getting ready to run. I let go of Thorin's hand, running to her and helping her up.
"Come on Moya…we're in danger. When I say run, you run okay?" I told her.
She nodded. "We're playing tag aren't we?"
I nodded back. "Yes…we are…and I'm it. So when I say run, you run so that you can't get caught."
She giggled. "You're it…You're it, you're it, you're it!"
She then ran to the front where Gandalf was and smiled at me. "Catch me if you can!"
"Oh fuck…" I groaned as I ran towards her and she ran off, running behind Gandalf. I ran after her until I saw where she was heading. In the distance I could see Radaghast and his rabbits and I also saw the wargs, who seemed to have riders on them. I shook my head and gasped at Moya, who had decided then to run up the hill, singing at the top of her lungs. I stopped as she ran up the hill.
"Oh dear…" Gandalf mumbled as stopped beside me.
"The hills are alive! With the sound of music!" Moya sang at the top of her lungs. She sang so loud, I started to shake as I looked around to see if any of the wargs could hear her. We were okay for now.
Thorin came up beside me and stared at Moya, who was still singing. Then suddenly, before our eyes, Radaghast drove past, with the wargs in tow. Moya was spinning around in plain sight.
"Can't we just leave her?" Bofur panted as he came up behind us. I gasped at him and shook my head.
"No! But we must do something…maybe knock her out?" I suggested.
"Already ahead of you…" Dwalin grumbled, running towards Moya and stopping in front of her. He took mind to avoid her wound as he grabbed her shoulder and then suddenly, she was out cold. I frowned.
"That actually works?" Anna questioned as she came up beside Gandalf and watch Dwalin throw Moya over his shoulder and run towards us.
"We stick together…Move!" Gandalf ordered. All turned around, and Thorin grabbed my hand, holding it close to him.
We continued to run, going over hills, running past giant rocks. It was a never-ending parade of hills and boulders and scopes, as we tried to escape the wargs. Radaghast was taking this mob all over the place trying to lead them away but for some reason, they were always near us. As Thorin and myself were near the front, we could see when it got close. It too close however, as Ori tried to run past us, only to be stopped by Thorin, who pulled him back and we saw wargs run past us. We all stopped behind a large rock and waited for the wargs to run past. Thorin's hand was still in mine and I held onto it tightly.
As they left, Gandalf whispered at them to go.
"All of you come on. Quick!" He whispered, waving his hand at everybody to run in a different direction.
Thorin frowned. "Where are you leading us?"
Gandalf didn't say anything but instead brushed past Thorin and went with everyone else. Thorin then turned to me and I smiled at him, trying to give him some sort of reassuring gesture. He grasped my hand and then we followed. We kept on running, just running and following Gandalf. Then we reached another boulder and leant against it. I gasped as I looked up and saw a warg, and sitting on it, was an ugly man of some sort, holding his hand in the air. Thorin grasped my hand even tighter and turned to look at Killi, and Killi nodded, grabbing his bow and arrow and lining up a shot.
He fired at the warg, who growled in returned and jumped at him. The warg fell onto the ground, his rider falling off him and landing on the grass. I stared in horror as the warg screeched, alerting others of its whereabouts. Two of the dwarves, Bifur and another, hacked their axes at the rider and warg and Thorin joined in, letting go of my hand. Then, the sound of wargs howling filled the air and I gasped, as Gandalf ordered everyone to move.
We ran again, following Gandalf. Thorin was ahead of me and I decided to run with the girls, who were also terrified.
"Kirra, your power! Do you think it can stop them?" Tamika asked as we ran.
"I don't know. It only seems to manifest itself when I'm angry." I told her.
She frowned. "What are you? The Hulk? See if you can!"
I nodded. "I will try!"
As I ran, I looked down to my hands and tried to start them up. After a few tries, I finally lit my hands on fire. I laughed and then stopped, as the wargs were now running after us. Gandalf was shouting at everyone to follow him and then Killi mentioned about how there was too many.
"Killi, shoot them!" Thorin ordered.
"We're surrounded!" Filli shouted.
We were indeed and so I ran towards Killi, who had begun to shoot them. I lit up my hands and Killi gasped but shook his head. I lit his arrows and he shot at the wargs, fire hitting at them. I then flicked my wrist, shooting fire at them as the dwarves gasped at the sight of me. I aimed at the one of the wargs and fire shoot through my body and hit the warg. It howled in pain and I could see that the other wargs and their riders were now focused on me.
"Go!" I yelled at Killi.
He shook his head. "No! I'll stay and fight with you."
I groaned and kept shooting fire at the wargs. I could hear the dwarves behind me and I then heard Gandalf suddenly shout, "This way you fools!"
I turned around and saw that Gandalf was hidden behind a large boulder. Killi and I kept fighting, Killi shooting arrows and I was throwing fire.
"Killi, Kirra, run!" Thorin shouted. Killi looked at me and begun to run back as I kept throwing fire, as it shot out of my body.
"Kirra, please, run!" Thorin begged. I stopped and turned, running towards him as the wargs followed us. I saw Killi jump, but then Thorin was still on the edge. I then heard a horn in the distance but didn't pay attention to it as the wargs were hot on my heels. I finally reached Thorin, who held out his hand but I shook my head.
"Wait..." I yelled, turning around and facing the wargs, who were coming closer.
"We have no time…" Thorin yelled, "Please my love…" he whispered that last bit.
I gasped, and then felt my body light up in flames and then suddenly, I blew, a shock wave of fire bursting through my body and it burned around me. I could see the fire hit the wargs and I screamed, letting go of the fire. Then it stopped and I felt weaker, turning around and falling into Thorin's arms. His piercing blue eyes, which were filled with worry and it seemed, love, were the last thing I saw before my world went black.
