Disclaimer: I don't own Soul Eater...
"Ummm hey...?" Maka drawled out nervously. The hot guy that gave her his number stood cockily in front of her. She had wanted to avoid him, but it was utterly impossible. After the fight the previous day, Maka couldn't go anywhere without people cheering and cat-calling at her. She wished it would just stop, but she scrapped a little too well in that fight.
The guy let out a sigh. His posture visibly slumped. It seemed like all of the cockiness he had possessed only seconds beforehand had vanished. He opened his mouth and closed it a few times, then he looked down while his face turned bright red.
"I'm sorry..." He whispered. "I just really like you, but I knew you would never give me the time of day. I decided to act like your partner since it's extremely obvious that you have a thing for him..."
"...I don't even know your name." Maka replied. She was almost paralyzed from the shock of the situation. Not only was her secret of liking Soul not so secret, but someone like him was actually giving her the time of day. That NEVER happens. Ever.
"Oh! Sorry...my name's Connor. I'm a year ahead of you, but I've been watching you since you started here...And now I realize how much I sound like a stalker! I'm not stalking you I swear! You're just really interesting, and I can't help but notice you..."
"...thank you..." Maka mumbled not used to being complemented so much. Their conversation was cut short by the bell ringing to signal it was time for classes to begin. Maka knew that Connor was no Soul, but he was unique. She didn't know how she felt about him, but she was willing to find out. She was about to say something else when he beat her to it.
"I want to see you. Are you free tonight?"
"I think so."
"I'll meet you outside your apartment at 8."
"...You know where I live?"
"Umm you know I was not-stalking you and-"
"It's fine...actually it's really sweet." Maka said interrupting him mid-sentence. His mouth hung open in shock, and she added to that shock by pecking him on the cheek. "I'll see you tonight, Connor."

Maka walked into class late, but luckily Professor Stein was even later than her. She walked and sat in her usual seat nervously. Soul was sitting quietly, glaring at his lap when she sat down. She was worried about how things were going to turn out with their partnership now. But, she wasn't the only one who was worried.
While Maka was lost in her thoughts, Soul let his gaze slide over to her. He had no idea what was going on anymore. He never thought that one day he would have to pick between his partner and his girlfriend, but it was happening. He knew he needed to talk to Maka, but he wasn't ready to do that. He was going to do it anyway, though.
"Maka." Soul broke the silence. Surprised, Maka looked up and searched through Soul's eyes. In them, she saw forgiveness and understanding. She now knew, although her feelings would never reach him, they would be okay. She cracked a smile at him, and he smirked back at her.
"We're partners Soul. Everything we need to say has already been said through our resonance. We've been through a lot lately, but I think we can move past it."
"Since I have the coolest partner ever, I say we need to have a movie night tonight." Soul declared.
"Umm about that Soul...I have a date tonight..."
"Oh."
"Oh?"
"That's really nice, Maka."
The tension was now really thick in the air. Neither partner dared break the ice, but they knew one of them needed to. It had seemed like they had finally made up, and had their unbreakable bond back, but they were sadly mistaken. Maka didn't understand what was wrong. Didn't he want her to be happy? Soul knew he was just being overprotective, but he couldn't let her get hurt. He had to stop himself from showing any emotion.
"Well...I have to get ready now..."

Maka had been waiting outside for 45 minutes unbeknownst to Soul. Finally, when she was sure she had been stood up, she heard a noise. She turned around and did a roundhouse kick into someone's face.
"Owwwwww!" Said an extremely familiar voice. Connor.
"I'm soooo sorry! I thought you had stood me up, and then you just surprised me..."
"Well let's go then."
